Underrated Blue Cards You Should Be Playing

Ойындар

This isn't a video about Force of Will. I love that card, but what if you are looking for budget/unique alternatives you may have not thought of before. That's where this video comes in, come along with me as we peruse different, unique and janky blue cards for your commander decks.

    Should be noted that Proliferate does not affect suspended cards with time counters on them. There are ways to manipulate time counters, but the rules are written as: 701.24a To proliferate means to choose any number of permanents and/or players that have a counter, then give each exactly one additional counter of a kind that permanent or player already has. Unfortunately a suspended card isn't a permanent while suspended. Still a good and competitive card off the rip though.

    I play Forbid in my Damia deck, and it really shuts everything down. I just run a ton of ramp and a decent amount of protection/counterspells since Damia will always refill my hand, and Forbid is essentially the boogieman in that list.

    100%. Per EDHRec it shows up in 5% of lists. But that seems pretty low when the regular "counterspell" is seeing play in 43% of decks. The difference is just crazy.

    My favorite underrated blue card is "Echoing Truth". 1B to bounce any permanent and all with same name. Solid bounce spell, but a total blowout against tokens. You can also work around weird hexproof situations by doing things like bouncing your own copy of something.

    That's a really cool card! I could also see it working in an azorius blink deck or something that wants to abuse ETB effects. Bouncing your own thing for value. I LOVE these types of cards that are flexible. Thanks for leaving a comment. :)

    If your deck has good abilities on creatures, Phantasmal Image is great. Most people won’t waste targeted removal on a 2 mana copy of another creature that they’d rather remove. If you copy a stax or cost reducer creature it can be quite strong. You can also use it to double up on an ETB or death trigger if you play it on a legendary creature.

    Scholar of the Lost Trove is one of my favorite pet cards, I've cast Rise Of The Dark Realms plenty of times from it already! It feels even better if you flash it back with Dread Return. My actual favorite pet card however is Willbreaker - also a blue card. Somehow, The Wise Mothman lets me use both of these to their fullest potential and it's incredibly fun

    Forbid is so much fun. I run it in a Niv-Mizzet spellslinger deck w/ Squees, Bosium Strip to flashback any instant/sorceries I have to bin; & also in Grixis reanimator. "Mystic Reflections" targeting "Spark Double" = X nonlegendary copies of a legendary creature. Parallel Thoughts can be a fun ruse, usually used to remove lands and/or card draw, so you can gaurantee a land drop, see more of your deck, & mind f the table.

I wanted to ask if you could make a Deck tech for it, just to see what your ideal deck is for this commander. Thanks. Also keep making these videos they’re great and I really enjoy this conversational approach. Props!

I think a ton of cards can be as good if you build appropriately. People are too obsessed about maximum efficiency, when it's technically still casual/not cEDH lol.

    18:07 Nascent Metamorph becomes a copy of a creature but the Metamorph itself is already on the battlefield. If it becomes a Craterhoof... it would be a 5/5, no ETB, kinda bad. Also, the ability lasts until end of turn, how are you copying the transformed Metamorph on your opponents' turns with Sakashimas and the like without flash?

  • @Tempest-Official

    @Tempest-Official

    2 ай бұрын

    Great question. You're correct it won't ETB. But the metamorph triggers on attack. So the idea is to attack, get an interesting creature on your own turn and then copy it. Craterhoof was just the creature that came to mind. A better example would probably be the new Etali. Or another creature that has a cool ETB effect that you can copy from an opponents library.

  • @Tempest-Official

    @Tempest-Official

    2 ай бұрын

    And I should clarify. I know the Metamorph doesn't get the ETB trigger, but hopefully your copy effects, which should state: "enter the battlefield as a copy." So the ETB value is on the new creature, not the base metamorph.

    This isn't exactly on the topic of the video, but I'm curious how you feel about the growth of your channel so far. Do you feel that 2.5k subscribers is a good number for the amount of time you've been on KZread?

  • @Tempest-Official

    @Tempest-Official

    2 ай бұрын

    Man. What a good question... you have no idea how timely it is. First off, I just want to acknowledge that I've seen you comment on my other videos and this type of continued support goes a really long way for me. So thank you for that. In regard to the channel growth, it's way above average for 6 months. 2.5k is nothing to sniff at, and I hope to see the number continue to climb. But recently, I've been having some growing pains. With more eyes on the channel, it comes with criticism, some of which is quite vitriolic. I'm not saying I'm a victim here, but it's definitely made me question even continuing the channel. Like, is it worth the headache of sacrificing most of my free time to script/plan/make decks and test them... etc... Is it even making a difference or am I just contributing to a larger problem? Those types of questions. It's taught me some important lessons. Not only about KZread but also about life. I can't make everyone happy. There are going to be "haters" or negative comments. Especially when people don't have to confront you face to face to say it. But interactions like this one, or with my patrons, or even the couple of people I've met out at game stores who know me from the channel has really helped me realize that the. numbers should be secondary, and I should just keep focusing on making good content that helps other people. If I get a crazy number of subs, great. The goal is to make useful videos that people can learn from, not fight over. I think by and large I've done that. What do you think of the number? Maybe even more importantly, what do you think I should improve on or focus on moving forward? Thanks for the comment and your time for reading this book! -Kyle

    @@Tempest-Official you're the only one to decide if you want to continue, or at what pace, etc. For the negativity problem, I would just say that people are always going to be annoying or toxic online, and finding a way to minimize exposure to the negativity like blocking particularly toxic people or reviewing comments with someone else there i.e. your fiancee might help. As for the time demand, I think that your mental health and the sustainability of the channel take priority over pace of content. 2.5k subs seems great in the time you've been active, and I'm sure many bigger channels started out slower than you did and still managed to make it big. Your tight scripts make for good content but aren't necessary for it, as this video proves. Overall it sounds like you could benefit from slowing down the pace a bit, or at least finding videos that don't devour so much of your free time, and just make sure you're enjoying yourself. If viewers get the vibe that you are comfortable and enthusiastic with what you're putting out I think you'll continue to see growth. Glad I can boost the channel with the engagement :)

    @@Tempest-Official It's the nature of the beast. If you put yourself out there for public consumption, you're inviting all the negative and positive aspects of what that entails. It's easy to enjoy the process when the response is positive, but how you respond internally to the negative, is what will make or break you and your channel. The only advice I have is to weather the storm as best as possible, but keep yourself open enough to see if there is any valid criticism within it and adjust accordingly. Take plenty of breaks. Create a schedule that works for you. Some ppl shoot all their content in one day and release on a time table. Some do it daily. Find what works. The growth will come naturally, so you don't need to force it by sacrificing your mental and physical health.

    You cast a suspend spell, it exiles the commander, then the player can choose to put them back into the command zone. You don’t get to do what you think you get to do.

  • @Tempest-Official

    @Tempest-Official

    You do cast a suspend spell. If someone chooses, they can instead place their commander in exile to be later cast for free (per the rules). But if they choose to place the commander in exile with 3 time counters they cannot retroactively return it to the command zone. In my games, I've had multiple people just place their commander in exile instead of the command zone. That's what I was saying. Unless there is something else I am missing?
