I really liked the movie, but after watching it, the fact that it is a R rated movie, a lengthy movie, and knowing how contemporary audiences are not very patient, it likely will not be a huge Box Office hit. The acting was great, cinematography incredible, and sound was awesome. If I were to edit it, I would add the short film of David Battista's character at the beginning and edit down some of the other scenes in order not to increase the running time. This scene would have "humanized" his character and would have had the audience truly empathize with him.

And he did it himself. He fucked up the original idea of the original movie. Made his own version on the base of the original. Not what I expected from a sequel. As a stand alone movie it would have been great.

So you would ave liked a copy paste version of the first movie ? This movie was good because it was different but it still had some of the magic of the first film. I think he embellish the first movie. He showed how good it was, and how good he can make a proper sequel, and still be a movie on its own. Plus remember this movie is 30years from the first movie, and its Hampton Fancher who wrote the screenplay. Denis just translated and added some of the elements. Plus, its a good continuaion for Deckard and Rachael, what they have become, what happend etc... Personnally, if you really think this movie fucked up the original... i feel bad for you.

Harrison Ford clearly saw Drive (2011) haha. These two are awesome people. And the movie? The movie was a masterpiece, so beautifully shot. Denis Villeneuve is one of my favourites now and up there with Christopher Nolan as one of the absolute best directors of this generation. Roger Deakins, the cinematographer of Bladerunner 2049 should win an academy award for his job. Absolute masterpiece of a film. I sometimes forget that movies, film is art, even the ones from hollywood. This film reminded me about that and why I love film.

I was blown away by the original Bladerunner, though I preferred the Director's cut. I even have the soundtrack, to the Director's cut. I was too scared to watch the sequel because I loved the first one so much and I didn't want to ruin the experience. I also wasn't on the Ryan Gosling train and then caught the movie on the TV one night, part way through, and found it so compelling that I watched it right through. I was even impressed with Ryan Gosling. This film converted me.

I think I know what Villeneuve is up to. He was to follow in the footsteps of a movie he personally adores while at the same time he wanted to create something new, something compelling the way he makes movies. Much more daunting than inventing your own completely new world and visual aesthetics.

its a brillaint fantastic looking film but for me its hampered by the obvous brief that they wanted an introduction to the new blade runner world rather than a fully fleshed out story in itself so more movies can be made. but now with the poor box office sales i doubt if we will be seeing anymore of the blade runner world which for me is a loss. i am sure that is the reson it did not do so well, that most people felt the film ended just as it had begun. haveing said that it is a must see film the perfomances from the cast (excluding mr no eyes) were exemplerary and a joy to watch, and Denis Villeneuve did an increadable job.

Hey Gigi! 1st of all, thank you for making a nice comment (there are so many Internet trolls that just want to spread negativity so I appreciate this) - I would say if you can swing it and make it happen, YES, DEFINITELY see the 1st one before seeing the new one (2049). That said, let's say if there were some reason you could not watch the 1st one (like you lived on a desert island without Netflix or a DVD player :-) 2049 does stand alone - but, If you can, I strongly suggest seeing the 1st one (maybe even see it twice?) and then see the new one. Or maybe, see the 1st one once, then 2049 once and then watch the 1st one again? (and then maybe 2049 A 2nd time? :-) Now this last comment will be quite conversational to many diehard fans of the original: I personally liked the original theater version WITH Harrison Ford's voiceover! And this is by FAR over the director's cut(s?) (think there were like 4 or 5 versions or something like that?) where they decided to not have the voiceover. I think they changed the ending in one or more versions as well. I personally like the voiceover and preferred the original ending, therefore if you have access to multiple versions, I personally would say see the original 1980s in-the-theater version :-)
