    Thank you! I really do spend ours each week to try and find interesting one that don't require any extra devices or service and could be used by everyone. But it's so much fun.

    After 2 years of using my HA it became so slow, that I was about to reinstall it from the scratch. The last resort: I removed ALL CUSTOM COMPONENTS. Result? My HA is LIKE NEW without any issues at all. I narrowed it down to the custom components that were for lovelace - big number, charts etc. I moved all my dashboards to the built in HA cards and installed just few custom cards with thorough checking the outcome. My point is: all is great but one has to understand: slowness, errors in logs, RESTARTING of the client applications (i.e. on iOS) - all this is NOT due to HA - all was due to IMPROPERLY coded custom components. And my HA is on really good machine: 16GB RAM, 8 CPUs assigned, 2.5Gbps NIC. Nothing helped until I removed the ... what I described above. One additional information about my setup: 120+ MQTT devices, 100+ ESPHome devices, 50+ Zigbee devices and so on.

    I've just added NVME drives to Synology and speed of everything is 10-15x faster. But you're right - everything that's getting added in HA has impact on performance. That's why I do clean a not used components and integrations few times per year. And most of the stuff I do video is only used on recording setup. Only some end up on my main system.

    @@BeardedTinker exactly: there is a difference when you install custom components on LAB system with 5 devices, vs Production, where you can have 300. Of course I use NVMe in my setup (all in Proxmox) and Ryzen 7 with 64GB RAM in total and 2x 2TB NVMe.

    Great video, the average sensor is kickass! We have public heating in my bloc and they always turn it on after an average of below 10 degrees for 3 nights in a row. I have input these values into an automation which always starts my home heating at the same time every year so that I don't even bother touching the thermostat, ever.

    Thank you for your recommendations! 👍🏽 there are a LOT of things to look at on HACS, but I’m trying to install as little things as possible. A little update on my first week of HA, I’ve got some contact sensors and motion sensors automating the lights in my basement, which tend to get left on for longer periods of time than they should. I’ve climate-controlled my smaller room using a small space heater and a temp/humidity/pressure sensor, and only when my location is “Home.” I also hooked up a vibration sensor to my piano, and changed the sensitivity to the minimum value, and I’m using it for simple automations like turning on the lights for me at night, and tracking if/how long I’ve played for that day. Having a LOT of fun. 🤩

    That's really awesome! You should start small with things that you've automated. Things that have immediate effects such as light or heating. And slowly add on top of that.

    @@BeardedTinker to tidy these up you can go into configuration/battery notes and delete the battery notes device from the list. You can also add enable_autodiscovery: false under battery_notes: in your configuration.yaml if you have a frequently changing test machine.

    Would love to understand the difference between MeasureIt and the History Stats built in. Is it the conditioning, or something else?

  • @BeardedTinker

    @BeardedTinker

    4 ай бұрын

    It's different - history saves all of the entities states. While measure it will record state based on condition and create entity out of it. You could do same thing with current state of the sensor, ut it requires really long templates to do so and is done in YAML, this is done in UI and speeds the process.

    UPDATE: Solved. Just create an mqtt: section in main configuration.yaml. ZigBee map: I'm not running HA OS so don't have the MQTT.yaml in my config. I'm running core. Do I just create this file? and add it as an include in my configuration.yaml file?

  • @BeardedTinker

    @BeardedTinker

    4 ай бұрын

    Awesome! You got it working before I answered. But yes, no matter if docker or HA OS, you just need the mqtt section with sensors under it.
