Very nice project! I agree that a smart home is about automatically reacting to the needs of the occupants, but there are some things that can't easily be automated or simply aren't worth the work. Dashboards are a great addition to allow monitoring what is going on in the smart home and this is a very nice low power solution. Tags of course are available at all major supermarkets :D

Sure, there are edge cases when you need control, but for most a lot proper automation(s) should be OK. BTW - actually I haven't seen any displays in local shops here... And they better not get them, as I need MORE :)

Great video, I like that you regularly have videos about things you can tinker with. I got a BLE tag from AliExpress to try out but at £15 for one it's quite expensive. The other price tags seem impossible to get any more so hope the BLE ones will be available cheaper soon.

BLE firmware is in the works but still has some bugs unfortunately. If it gets fixes soon that would make more tags available. Also, people usually buy tags on eBay (or on Discord server I've linked).

That's so cool, thanks for great video. If I already have an established Zigbee connection (SkyConnect in my Raspberry), do I also need another gateway?

It uses same frequency, but different protocol. So, you would need differentfirware on SkyConnect and you would use Zigbee connectivity. So, yes, you need different gateway. I've got info that next batch will be available for sale around 24.5.2024 on Tindie.

I've been very interested in making my own AP, but I'm struggling with the build. I hoped you would walk me through the process, seeing how they are not for sale, really.

You can still get same one I got Mini v4 gateway. I've linked it in video. Author is currently waiting to get enough people on the list and will sell more in May. Or you can try and build Yellow. Documentation for it is on Wiki I've linked too. That would should be fairly "easy" to do.

Did I miss the link to get the prebuilt and flashed tags?

Not an easy answer. In Discord I've linked under video, people are selling them and also can help you determine if ones you've found are compatible with current firmware or not. Bluetooth version of tag is getting worked on (not tag but firmware) and that would make it easier to find new ones. As for Gateway/AP - one linked on Tindie shop is currently getting produced and should be available for delivery around 24.5.

It would be cool to use them to display info from my nematode 2000 network on my boat.

Unfortunately the easiest way is to go on OpenEPaper Link Discord and ask there. Some are selling them, but they do it via DM, also people post constantly links on eBay etc. The problem is that there are tons of different version, not all are supported so you would need to check there is shop you find is compatible with firmware.

@@BeardedTinker I have bought the BLE 2.1 GICIsky BLE 5.0 tags from Ali Express. They are more expensive but are working fine without reflashing the tag. Took a while for the gateway to find them. Not sure if I did anything, but after rebooting the gateway a few times, obviously turning on BLE in settings in the browser and reflashing the gateway firmware through the browser, and restarting, they are working great.

I have solum m3 tags, but i dont know, how to flash them using mini ap v4 and command prompt, can anyone help me? Or point me to place with more information on how to do that.

Never tried flashing the tag myself. One I have has flasher inside - it also have auto flash ability on tag flasher page. I really recommend that you visit Discord server and ask there as people there have a lot of experience with it.

This is a really good one, but solum displays are not available and the hub also not which make it a bit hard to order such gateway. But I got the idea and might look for different sources .

Soon, support for BLE tags will be added (actually it already has but it's buggy) that works great. That will allow you to get other types of tags too. And in regard to hub, you still have a chance to grab one - delivery in May, you just need to leave your email for notification when it gets back in stock.
