@Cameron Crouse I believe the guitar comes with locking tuners The point of locking tuners (and I didn't know this) is that you're not supposed to wind the string around the tuning pole, you just put the string in, lock it, and then tune If you wind the string it'll go out of tune But no you don't need a locking nut or anything

HB is so underrated. Bought one and was surprised the only downside was the frets were scratchier than I’d like. I did about 1-2hrs worth of fret work and now it plays better than my Ibanez and Jackson guitars.

I got one. Found them super OVERrated. It was cheap, cool. But also, it was junk. Id rather play a squier than that. But id prefer my “overpriced” USA made guitars. Could care less what kids on instagram say

@@Ottophil I mean, if you got the money than of course your USA made fender is better! HB is mainly marketed to people who really have a budget (like kids). I'd be VERY happy if I got a HB for my first guitar instead of a 80 dollar fender strat. Those lock-in tuners and active(albeit cheap) pickups would be a huge step up from my super low output single coils, not to mention that neck-through body and satin finish!

I just built one of those green 8 strings. I went a little overboard. I put Fishman Modern 9 string pickups in it with double push pull tones. I changed the tuners out for some Gotoh lefty inline tuners; I had to drill a tuner out for the 105 string. I can't complain. The neck thru is beautiful. I also put some Gotoh strap locks in. Yes buy 9 string pickups for this guitar.

Few years ago I bought QBB 8 string with slanted pickups, I didn't played it that much until this year. I bought Fishman Fluence Abasi Signature magnets and gave it to the luthier that did the fretwork, nut, replaced magnets and did some modification because of slanted pickups. Considering all the work and magnets it costed 900€ but it is great. I would prefer ticker neck, but yeah, with Fishmans, it is super nice guitar to play. Now I can suck on 8 string instead of peasant 6.

Ive had an HB Multiscale 7 Progressive for almost 2 years and it sounds good but not great… pickups are actually the same pickups as the 8 string (I want to swap them but haven’t yet, so I’d love to see how you do it) and the locking tuners was the first thing I swapped on mine, HBs don’t stay in tune at all so I put Tone Ninja locking tuners on it, which are WAY better! NYXL 64-10, which are an 8 string set minus the 74. Adjusted the truss rod and intonation and she plays beautifully… just need pup swap now! I’m just unsure if I wanna do a simple passive soap bar swap or just go all out with some Fishmans. Lol

Harley Benton is not a company but the home brand of Thomann.

Would be fun to see you upgrade the guitar with as budget the price of the guitar, should be doable right?

This review came just in time I bought a cheap (240€) guitar to start learning I did And I thought about this 8 string for an upgrade Thanks for showing me this So when it will be recording time, get a mid range 8 string, not low end again 🤘

Wasn't even paying that much attention between the 6 and 7 and I could tell a difference in the sound. I'd say I like the way the 7 sounded more for some reason.

I've got one of the cheaper fanned-fret 7 strings, the R-457BK, and it plays REALLY well! The pickups weren't great, though, so I spent 2x more than the price of the guitar itself on a pair of Bare Knuckles War Pigs in it.. Totally worth it, I prefer the feel of the R-457BK over the feel of my RG7420 from 2000!

They don’t have hipshot bridges and Grover locking tuners anymore, but the price is still the same

I'm curious how the $129 8 string sounds vs the $300ish 8 string.
