Ah yes. I remember fondly many nights on tour when Mendel would watch my fingers EXTREMELY closely and text me every time I messed up even the slightest thing. I'd be checking my phone on stage, and see messages like "WHAT WAS THAT?!?" It wasn't until the end of the tour, we recorded Mendel's guitar direct for a cool video project, and we listened to him ABSOLUTELY BUTCHER a solo. What a guy ♥️

He was awesome in Aborted. Had an absolutely monstrous stage presence. Always cracks me up, how high pitched his voice is, for someone so big and tall.

Please keep doing this with other guitarists from other bands. Hopefully you do and can get some popular guys to go over some riffs

As a pure listener and complete non musician, this was a joy to watch. Y'all gelled well together as well. My favorite parts were when you'd deathcore-ize one of his riffs and he'd death metal-ize a deathcore riff. Probably my favorite video I've watched from you, Andrew.

This was awesome. Reminds me of the days when me and my other guitarist would show each other riffs from slightly different genres. 🤘🏾

Deathcore after about 2012-13 really changed for the better, especially around 2014-15. The songs became more coherent and breakdowns became tasteful. Production really took off as well.

Yes, honestly metal can reach a point where it does just become noise. There's just way to much going on sometimes. I will listen to Pantera over slayer. 200bpm is not sustainable for a whole song for me.

@@dasenase tbh deathcore is one of those rare genres that has always been good, the proto deathcore from the 90's is fire, the early 2000's stuff like the cleansing is straight up iconic, and the new bands are evolving the sound and experimenting in super impressive ways all around, literally every era has been peak deathcore 🤘🏻

Mid-output pickups on short scale guitars are one of the best pairings for heavy stuff in mid-low tunings. A little bit less precise sounding, but it makes power chords growl and palm mutes punch like nothing else. I use a Les Paul tuned to B with stock Gibson pickups for the vast majority of my death metal recording

@@SuffyANX With a bit of a setup adjustment I was blown away how much my 70s les paul sounds nearly identical to my "metal" guitar with fishman fluences

i watch all these kinda vids for inspiration while i work on my solo death metal band. i have one album on spotify which sounds very amateur and i am determined to make my next one more focused and consistent. as well as longer!

Hell yeah! Necrotic Manifesto is my favorite Aborted album. Mendel is by far my favorite guitarist Aborted ever had.

This was awesome!!! I never think about the differences when I'm listening to all these genres of metal, it all just rocks to me. But I can totally hear the difference here.

I first heard of Mendel with his soundclick page. He has an epic 4 part Nile inspired Egyptian song called Pharos Empire. It absolutely crushes!! I still go back and check it out.

All started with Symphonies of Sickness for me.

I have such a huge smile on my face..... Not only cause I know the struggle from both worlds, My uncle being a die-hard through and through Death Metal genius with guitar skills that are seemingly unmatched as well as my cousin who made his way in Deathcore but secretly is the most talented extended range player I know, I myself well... I don't know what I play personally... I was brought up by both camps some days it's down picking as fast as my gear will allow, Other days I'm hybrid picking, Tapping..... Tossing in country riffs.... Improving to R&B playing classical all self-taught or by ear~ nonetheless I would love to be in this room taking a lesson from both y'all

My favorite album production of all time, when it comes to metal and it’s extreme genres, is Necrophagist’s Epitaph. Every instrument sounds perfectly clear and you can hear every single instrument.

I didn't realise people struggle when playing with left handed guitarists cos the first dude I jammed with as a kid was left handed and it was always just like when I would play in front of a mirror examining my technique (also trying to figure out what looked cool cos I was a teenager)

ive been thinking about this a lot lately, like whats the difference between metalcore and metal, and deathmetal and deathcore, and can they learn things from each other to help each other grow and push fowards. id love to see someone hire jupiter keys to help produce an album, i think he is really needed to help push the entire metal/rock genre foward

Difference with Metal and core genres comes down to song writing and vocal styles. Death Metal for the most part growls instead of screaming, and is more branched out , which would be a long list if I went into detail. Deathcore puts more emphasis on screaming vocals and breakdowns instead of solos. Death Metal on average also tends to be more technical compared to Deathcore, check out bands like Necrophagist and Nile if you want to hear a difference

Chimaira - Resurrection and HLB - Valde are two of the best mixed metal albums I've ever heard so those choices check out 👌

I still remember hearing them for the first time in Freddy vs Jason (along with early brutal Howard Jones era KSE) and becoming an instant fan haha. Rob Arnold is one hell of a player but to much of my suprise, finding out Mark Hunter also played guitars on some tracks simply blew my mind.
