Chaosium have always produced great games, but not always great quality [though I think Avalon Hill must answer for the cheaply produced 3rd? edition RQ], and Glorantha is the probably the best fantasy setting in gaming. More people should play this game.

I keep hearing that from folks. It is so weird how small I realize my old gaming circle was, in retrospect, as RQ just never penetrated into them. Still, better late than never, and what an edition to start with. :)

@@DungeonMusings It is a 2.5 version. I do like how they have tied the runes directly into the character and game. One issue I have with that, though, is the Pendragonesk use of the runes - like traits - but it's not necessarily intuitive.

Just recently found your channel well done sir. As one those guys that played through the 80s, played a ton of d&d,t&t and coc. My fondest memories was playing runequest, was never so happy to get to improve +5% in horse riding after a epic chase.

Thanks for the kind words, Craig, and welcome to the channel! I keep hearing from folks how much they enjoyed RQ, back in the day, and kick myself of having missed it, before. In particular, I really love the idea of organic growth of the characters, particularly in an ongoing campaign. Gah!!! I need to find time in my calendar to get this to the table!

Most fantasy games are pretty generic medieval lotr/dnd clones. Runequest uses the Glorantha setting which is actually pretty unique, and incredibly well detailed. Glorantha is less about the battle of good and evil and more about competing cultures. It’s so deep and well thought out. Greg Stafford was a game designing genius.

Oh man. Pretty jealous right now. I mean, I have pdfs of everything but seeing the physical books makes me want copies on my shelf. That said, Glorantha is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally dense. So far I've read 2 books beyond the Runequest Glorantha rules, The Glorantha Sourcebook and King of Sartar, and while both were fascinating I still feel like I've only got the tip of the iceberg. Really excited to see some RQG on the Dungeon Musings channel! Edit: You didn't mention it in the video, but Chaosium is also the publisher of King Arthur Pendragon 5th (5.2) which is another great game that's well supported.

The density of a setting can be something that will push a game down the list of games I am going to get to the table, particularly when compared to games that require less "homework" for the players to do before we actually play, but I like that there is that sandbox-ish adventure included in the Gamemaster's Screen, which I hope will make for a manageable intro to the game. Will update once I dive into it! :)

@@daddystabz I have not had a chance to run RQG, yet, and I don't do reviews of games until after I have had a chance to get it to the table a few times. I am not familiar enough with the MG Runequest to say how the two compare, but I can say that there appears to be some substantial differences in magic and combat between RQG and Mythras.

I would actually recommend using chaosium’s BRP [BasicRole Playing] rule-set, if you want to make something more unique [essentially the same core rule set as RQG, but modular] , as this generic rule system is designed to be tailored to whatever setting you want to use.
