Hi, i was alive and received the first Barbie in 1960 and Skipper in 1964. Skipper is Barbie s little sister. Allen is Midge's boyfriend, Ken's buddy. 😊

Mattel used different head sculpts to reflect beauty standards at the moment. I personally prefer the closed mouth dolls to the smiles, centered eyes to side glances!

​@@x.lazy_in_spxce_bee.x When Farrah Fawcett became internationally famous for her dazzling smile, Mattel produced the Barbie and Ken Superstar head sculpts with a smile! Besides using these same sculpts for years, the Barbie dolls were always blonde! I didn't buy any of those dolls for a long time because they were boring, no diversity!

Oh Michael - Where to begin! I just commented on your Ken doll video. Allan's hair is molded. This was Mattel's redesign when the original Ken's flocking was discontinued. I'm assuming that the flocking disintegrated after much play and Mattel received feedback. Ken reappeared with a molded flat top in blonde or brunette. Many vintage collectors say the flat top Ken is more handsome. Skipper is NOT Barbie's friend, she is her younger sister! She had matching outfits to Barbie doll's. She was produced to counter the negative response to Barbie doll's controversial adult figure I'm almost positive that Allan is wearing a home-made suit. The buttons and button holes are too large! The 1000 is Allan's stock number, not the quantity made! Yes, the original fashion illustrations were incomparable. They are one of the reasons why Mattel was so successful in marketing Barbie doll and her family. Barbie seemed so real and little girls and boys(!) loved living their fantasies through the doll! Designers, artists, sculptors and illustrators at Mattel were unknown for decades, we still haven't learned the identity of the original illustrators who did the artwork on the boxes and fashion booklets. I used Barbie doll as a model for my fashion illustrations (my reason for getting her at 9 years old!) and was a commercial artist in San Francisco, until retiring.

I’m actually thinking of doing a video on my sordid past with Barbies. Lol. Unfortunately she doesn’t have many of them. We were pretty rough on them. I liked to braid there hair.
