Unboxing / First Look - Two Blue 1960s Hoovers!

Ойын-сауық

It's Blue Day here at the Vintage Appliance Emporium!
Let's get this big box open and have a look at what the lovely Andrew has sent us. There are things in here that I'd forgotten he'd included so it's as much as a surprise for me as it is for you.
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe :)

A tremendous haul of goodies you've got there! The polisher appears to be in great condition, probably seldom used. We look forward to seeing more treats from your boxes of delights. 👍

The blue coloured appliances are a little bit harder to pin down date wise, unless of course the serial numbers give an indication (did either of those appliances match up with serial number on the delivery note? I'm afraid it's not possible at the moment for me to watch all of this video with the sound on). The blue colour schemes started around 1955 with the 638 and 1224 uprights, Constellation, 417 cylinder, and older style floor polisher all appearing in one shade of blue or another, but when Hoover moved to the rose & white and later still 2-tone grey for the bulk of their range from 1959, the Hooverette and 'new' style polisher and shampoo-polisher continued in the shades of blue as seen in your video. There were even irons in blue too. When the grey scheme was superseded by the hop-green & Jonquil, the Hooverette and the polisher were made in that scheme, which I think was around 1964 or so. Both appliances were then made in the later smoked pine & Swedish green colours, I think around 1966 - 67, although when this ends is a bit of a mystery, because the next colour scheme for the polisher appears to be white & jade green (like on the 2nd version of the 1346 junior and the Constellation of the same era) which would bring us to 1970 - 71, while the Hooverette moves to white & bright orange - does anyone know when it moved to white & orange? When my parents married in the autumn of 1967, they were given a 2nd hand blue Hooverette ensemble as a wedding present. My mother used it for the best part of 10 years, before the handle socket on the rear end gave way, meaning the cleaner could now only be used as a hand-held device. It was replaced around 1977 with an Electrolux 87. Meanwhile, my mum's sister (who married in the very early 60's) had a smoked pine & Swedish green Hooverette (possibly from new) to compliment her Hotpoint light & easy upright. Hers had a replacement hose, to make it as long as the one in your video, and she used hers with an additional metal tube as a cylinder cleaner...I don't suppose for a second it was all that powerful, but both my mother and her sister always had spotlessly clean houses, so I guess they knew how to get the best from what they had. On the one had I think it is astonishing how many Dustettes, Hooverettes, and polishers & shampoo-polishers are turning up in all different colours from different years, but largely with all the correct parts and in working order, yet on the other hand I think it stands to reason that they would exist, as they were built to a far higher standard than was really required for the amount of use they would get...in the case of the polishers, they very much seem to have been a once-in-a-lifetime purchase that never got used all that often by many owners. Let's face it, if the original Vax carpet washer had been sold without the facility to use it as an ordinary vacuum cleaner too, they would never have worn out.

It all depends on what condition they're in and the models. Some might look valuable but actually aren't. The DC01 and DC04 have hardly any value You can email me on TVAE@hotmail.co.uk and I'll do my best to help. Please let me know when you've sent the email as I seldom check that account

@@TheVintageApplianceEmporium it looked in really good condition?, I'd rather have that one and scrap the others least it's original. I would either find another which is not as good to use as parts or just have the original one
