Unboxing / First Look - 1995(?) Hitachi Powerhouse CV-780DC

Ойын-сауық

Here's an unusual upright vacuum cleaner from the mid-1990s.
I've had this in my dining room for about three months and never got around to unboxing it. We shall change all that in this video!
I was rather surprised to find the machine having the word "EXCLUSIVE" written across the front of it. If anyone knows why this is an exclusive, please do let me know in the comments.
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe!
AFTER SOME RESEARCH:
So it seems that Argos were still selling the CV-770xx models in 1996 and then went to the CV-975xx in 1999, which make me assume that the CV-780xx machines were more likely on sale between 1997 and 1998. Can anyone confirm this for us?

Our old mum used to have a Hitachi upright, we think it was a CV770D which worked really well for a long time. Unfortunately Debenhams stopped stocking the genuine bags so mum got some off the market. The first one she fitted caused the bag door to cave in and it cracked badly and her attempt at a gaffer tape repair was woeful. More misfortune was on the way when mum decided to modernise the Hitachi's replacement with a bagless machine. She plumped for a Sanyo SCX95 which was by all accounts the worst vacuum cleaner she ever had. You did remind us though that on mum's Hitachi the hose end does not pull out of the floor head directly, there was a lip to prevent accidental removal. To remove the hose one rotates the hose end to about 2 o'clock then pull. To put it back first angle the hose end to 2 o'clock, push into the floorhead then rotate the hose end to 12 o'clock to 'lock' back in place. Great video, brought back some good memories. Bless her but his Ladyship didn't understand any of your 'D' jokes - I'll send her round with a tub of gypsy creams so you can explain.

The reference to DP went right over my head, too, so I googled it thinking "I have no idea what that is" and then google returned it's search and I thought "oh yes, I do know". But it's fine,I have no plans to take my computer for repair just yet, and it wasn't an image search. Actually, it put me in mind of one of those polishing attachments for the Electrolux cleaners from the 1960s. As in, I've seen plenty of pictures so I know it's a reality, but it looks a bit of a faff and I don't suppose the results in real life were anywhere near as satisfactory.

I just serviced a vax bagless (junk) for a friend and the brush roll on that was totally seized, same thing plastic bearing housing with no thread guards totally packed with dirt and melted hair, the housings were starting to deform from heat. Got al the crap out and it runs smoothly. I love a bit of 90s green.

I remember my auntie had a vacuum cleaner made by Hitachi but I forgot to ask her what the model number was. I think it burnt out, can’t remember how long she had it for but as a child I used to be so frightened of it LOL

I've got the exact same model as that, and mine says exclusive on the bag door as well. I suspect it was an Argos model, but got mine second hand so cant confirm that. The website that had the Argos books online has now taken them all down sadly unless you know of another one. Indeed, the cord retract mechanism on mine was not working when I got it and I was unable to get the screw out that holds the back on - the very one you pointed out funnily enough was the one I couldnt get out - some stupid triangular shaped head or something it is - cant remember now and its up in the loft so cant be bothered to go up there right now to check - but ended up snapping the plastic off round the screw head to get the back off, as it was the only screw I couldnt actually get out - all the others came out. The brushroll worked well in mine fortunately - just that stupid security screw was the only issue. Not a machine I liked that much to be honest and its been in the loft for the last 10 years. Would like to see how much success you have getting that screw out, and the brushroll working again, so yes, please do do a video of your struggles with it in the workshop.

I was thinking it was probably an Argos machine. Those security screws are bastards

@@TheVintageApplianceEmporium It's in none of the Argos catalouges, as I said in another reply, although what KZread is doing with my comments (and other peoples according to other channels) is anyone's guess, so you may not even have seen it.

That’s later than 1995. More like 97/98. The very first line up on this style came out in 95 but they were all grey with coloured bumpers
