Unboxing Beautiful New Discus Fish for the Discus Aquarium!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Today, I am unboxing new fish for my 90 gallon discus fish tank! I've been meaning to provide an update on this discus aquarium for awhile now, and in this video, I discuss the growth and challenges I've encountered since this tank was setup 1.5 years ago. Very excited to see where this tank goes in the future, and for the new tank mates with my discus.

I had a huge snail problem in my tank, and I was looking for the zebra loaches. I couldn't find them anywhere, so I got skunk loaches, and they cleaned up my small mess. Good Luck, I am sure the zebras will do the trick.

I also had a problems with snails, to the point my aquarium looked like it was taken by them, but when I put a few assassin snails into my tank the problem slowly disappear. I stil have some snails there but not many and Im completely fine with this balance, and those assassins do not reproduce as normal snails so Im very happy with this solution. Good luck, very nice aquariums and fish you have.

I don't know what's more entertaining... Your content or your comment sections... Lol anyway, I think you're right on the temperature being the reason for the plants growing slowly. Anytime I have a setup that requires 80+ degrees, the plants don't thrive quite as good. Even if I'm doing everything else I can do for them. Either way your tank looks awesome with those fish as the focus over the plants. They catch the eye immediately! Even the snail army doesn't subtract from it lol.

I also have a 90 gallon tank, with 4 discus, 2 angels, 6 cory's and 11 rummynose tetras. I'm trying to get a mix of the rummynose tetras and cardinal tetras, but from the last time I tried stocking up on them I ended up with only one of each. My current purchase of 10 rummynose are doing well now after a couple of weeks, and I just bought 10 cardinal tetra's that started quarantine. I have been through both your plant and pest snail issues, so here are my comments on both. I actually have had my best success with dwarf sag, which actually grew to the top and started growing across the top. I know there are more than one species of saggiteria, so maybe some do better in the warm water than others (I am also at ~84 F). I also bought valisneria, which I can tell the difference from the sag by it's wider leaf, but although it did spread in my tank it never grew to the height that the sag did. Lastly, I bought several types of swords, some of which (ruffled) did well, others (like flame sword) are doing ok, but not the kind of growth I was hoping for. Lastly, the malaysian trumpet snail issue. My outbreak was an unfortunate decision to re-use driftwood which came from a tank that had them. But when I started to see them, I went on a rigorous schedule of removing them at night and early morning, when they are out. After about 6-9 months, I am not finding any. Another thing I bought for my other tanks was the Dennerle snail catcher (from Aquarium Co-op); that works pretty well and would help you get on top of your problem, in addition to the assasin snails and loaches you added.

Those trumpet snails are annoying to look at but will balance...the assassin snails work well to combat them...the thing is those trumpet snails are wonderful for your substrate with live plants you no longer need to fertilize n they keep everything stiring down there so no dead spots...they are good for your tank if you can get passed the look

Ive had success with dwarf chain loaches eating snails. Assassin's can become a pest also just make sure ypu arent over feeding, thats the biggest thing w snail problems most of the time. It takes longer to feed your fish but it helps if you only feed them what theyll eat

4:30 Rambo is thinking why there's something in his box 😂 really nice additions, rummy nose have one of the best shoaling behaviour in the hobby and the new discus is really good quality, if i may add a tip i think you should put floating plants because i see that the little discus is a bit stressed. I had discus in the past but one day my aquarium broke and we never had them again, but near my city there's a good breeder and everytime i go to buy something I am a bit tempted to start again, we'll see in the future

Hey Troy , Awesome update video , and The Wet Spot just does everything a little bit better and the Discus a lot BIGGER 💛 Hopefully you can get the situation to the acceptable stage , which has to be 100% totally eradicated !!! Just be very mindful of how you feed the aquarium especially if the Loaches are not handling the mission of complete annihilation with no chance of the dreaded pest snails being reincarnated, I swear it's almost like having a bunch of Mr. Smiths rooting around in the substrate. Which is what I think might be the the one thing that I would consider doing if I were in your situation and whenever you are doing your regular maintenance I would manually remove as much of the substrate using a 3/4" ID X 1" OD and the local True Value or similar should have the perfect match which obviously I have been down the road and I prefer the hose to be 7 or 8' and then the oval shape is also a little better for control and seems to not get clogged up like a garden hose does ? It also is really good for the Cory technique for pinching as the goal is to remove the most substrate with the least amount of water . Then I would pour off most of the water and then have a new tarp laying somewhere in full sun 🌅 Whatever you think is best for you and the killers and I will wish you and your fish basement the best 🔎🔍
