Vocal range of 3.5 octaves. John Lennon heard this in 1980, a few months before he died. He gave his approval, as did Paul McCartney. Nothing like Meat Loaf. He screwed up his last performance in Melbourne, something John Farnham would never do.
An American who loves this Aussie’s music. Magnificent in every way. Try his duet with Jimmy Barnes “When Something is Wrong With My Baby” and his duet with Olivia Newton John of “ Please Don’t Ask Me”. You won’t regret it.

@@wyattfamily8997 I heard that for the first time last week and was blown away. He can do anything. His AC/DC cover, his comedic operatic duet, Burn For You, You’re the Voice. The man has more charisma, charm, and above all, talent in his little finger than most of our “artists” today. You Aussies are so lucky to have had him all to yourselves for so long. I pray he beats his cancer. He may not be able to sing again, but he’s a wonderful ambassador for Australia. I spent nearly 5 years in East Timor starting in 1999 and Darwin was my R & R Point. I regret not finding one of his concerts and going. What a treat and memory THAT would have been.

Hi Ichabod, you would have to be The Voice to sing straight for that long. That is simply amazing 😀
Welcome to Australian Music 🎶🇭🇲 John is without doubt the best and most respected artist in Australia and his voice stacks up against any of the worlds best. We say he is truley one the best in the world for many reasons. Firstly his voice...he has a huge and powerful range and sings even better live than recorded. He never ever hits a bum note even after singing live night after night for hours on end. He sings straight from the heart with pure emotion. He is pitch perfect and has perfect timing. He also transcends many genres....from Pop to Hard Rock, Gospel to R&B, Country to Musical Theatre and silly little Ditties. Another thing is that he has had number one hits in 6 consecutive decades. And at 73 still has a huge fan base. Mostly in Australia and New Zealand but also much of Europe, with fans ranging from kids, teens, Mums and Dads to Grannies all love Farnsey. He successfully, if not slowly, transitioned from teen pop idol in the 60's, through to lead singer of soft rock band LRB for 4 years in the 80's, to a hugely successful adult contemporary artist who is respected not only by Australians but also many international greats like the Beatles, Elton, Tom Jones, Celine Dione, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie, Ray Charles and Queen (who actually approached John first to replace Freddie after he died.) His most famous song is You're the Voice Choose a live version. The one with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is probably the best. ❤

It is the best selling Australian artist album of all time. I listened to it every night in bed for the longest time. John is a true gentleman and consummate entertainer, able to tackle almost every genre; he started his career back in the late 60's as a pop teen idol known then as Johnny Farnham, and eventually was able to struggle through to be one of the greatest adult entertainers in the world. John passed up international exposure to remain close to his family, rather than endless touring; John shows passion whenever he sings a song, and always has that cheeky endearing smile when he performs. John has also performed with other Australian and international artists, his most iconic duet was with Olivia Newton John singing Please Don't Ask Me live from The Main Event Concert. John's signature song is You're The Voice from this concert, and because of this he is known as 'The Voice'.

Hearing his live concert performances is a melodious treat. Many segments and songs are on YT. His LRB days were just as good. Even as he aged his vocals were still strong. What a voice!!!
@Charlie_Fucsard
Жыл бұрын
Yes, older Meatloaf doesn't hold a candle to older Farnsey. It's a pity so many Australians only experience with Meatloaf was the older version at the AFL grand final. Young Meatloaf had an extraordinary voice & like an opera singer basically ONLY used his full chest voice live & pulled it off exceptionally well. Farnham on the other hand mixes a lot of head voice with his chest voice to hit many of his higher notes. To me, Farnseys greatest talent was being able to maintain his higher register at such an advanced age. MOST popular vocalists that have a tenor vocal range lose much of their range as they age, it's not just Meatloaf.
You are just about to get a whole lot of Farnsey subscribers! Your next Farnsey one needs to be 'The Voice' from the same concert. Keep a mn especially close watch at about 3.19. He does something, but you will just realise it after. Third song to do is 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby, - a duet with another Aussie great, Jimmy Barnes (thus they are known as Barnesy and Farnsey) Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar, Grenada, Burn For You are just a few of his other great songs. Have fun! You'll get hooked on Jimmy Barnes too!

Farnsey is known as "the voice". You've only just started his rabbit hole. The man was a GOAT before anyone ever knew what a Goat was. He would be known as one of the world's best voices EVER, had he truly desired to reach that level. Celine Dion absolutely fangirled all over him when not too many year's ago she had the chance to meet him. This man could sing any genre, any song & I mean any song. Every note, every vowel perfection, everytime he opened his mouth. You'll never find a bad performance. Unfortunately not nearly enough available online that truly shows his 50yr career. He is in his 70's now & likely lost his voice due to a current cancer battle. We will never see the likes of him again. And, he is even a better person than what he is a singer or performer. Pretty darn funny too. He will hold the best selling album in Australia forever. Also, please ONLY do live reactions of his songs. Only way to do him any justice!

Hi TY, i can see why. John did an amazing job on this! 🤩
Richard Marx found John very early using his radio connected to his Dad’s satellite dish. Then he found out by going to every record store in LA that no one knew about him but one told him they could order it. Richard has a 4 part video on here, he has found I believe 16 genre’s of music including Opera that John sings naturally. He isn’t raspy when he sings Opera or some ballads, he is magic. He still gets surprised when someone famous knows him and that Celine Dion and Richard are his biggest fans they say. Australia knows who his biggest fans are because he is family and so are his family, his late manager and best friend Glenn Wheatley and his family are all our family. I think you would have to see John’s new bio pic to get it. Richard calls John the best voice alive anywhere to day and he isn’t wrong. Yet after three number one songs America and Australia would not sign him, would not even hear him. John is humble, kind and sweet. There is very good reason he is called the Voice and a Legend. I don’t think anyone famous wanted John to do a cover of it because it always became his, John Lennon agreed with that and told him they should have sung Help that way. John deserves that the world knows him. To have hit albums in 5 consecutive decades and even Michael Jackson couldn’t move him out of number one after 6 months. That was the Whispering Jack album that brought John back to us and Glenn took over as his manager. He mortgaged his home and everything he owned before he told his wife, Gaynor but she loved him too. To make that album and then he had to change radio in Australia to get them to play it. Once we heard it they had no hope of stopping John. There are great songs at this concert like You’re The Voice and many others. Songs from the Main Event Concerts with John, Anthony Warlow and Olivia Newton John. They toured for three months after Anthony finished some tough cancer treatment but that is who all 3 of them were and are. Anthony sings Opera and is the star of most of our stage musicals. It is so funny to watch Anthony John sing Granada because I wasn’t expecting Opera. Or John and our Livvie singing Please Don’t Ask Me. It is one of John’s solo’s but I love it with Olivia. Ballads like Burn For You are so beautiful and John wrote one verse, two others on tour wrote one each. Asking their wives not to get mad and hang up on them because they didn’t like being away from them either. You have over 50 years to choose from and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Thank you for liking him.

The VOICE of Australia. Beloved here and deservedly so. You were right at the outset. John can - and did -sing anything. Rock, Pop, Blues, Jazz, Musical Theatre. And without a single vocal lesson. He just listened to everything he could and then sang it. He was working, in his teens, as a Plumbers Apprentice when a lot of people around him said; "We think you need to go be a STAR!" and so he did. 'Farnsie' last performed, with his voice just as strong and just as perfect, aged 71, at the 'Fight Fire' Fundraising Concert in 2020 after the devastating bushfires we suffered here along much of the East Coast of Australia. John is an absolute Legend here, and many had trouble understanding why his 'star' didn't take off internationally. ( Increasingly a lot of - particularly US - Reactors are asking this question too! ) I believe he did go talk to some Record Producers in the States 'back in the day', but, allegedly, they wanted him to confine himself to a single genre; to becoming a kind of 'Blond Aussie Clone' of David Cassidy, and he wanted to explore artistically far broader than that. He had also married young (still married - still adores his wife; Jilly) and didn't want to leave his family here. So here he stayed. Toured all over the country - filled Stadium after Stadium - for Decades. Tried to retire several times; we wouldn't let him! ( A running joke here about how many 'Last Tours' he had. } Excellence attracts excellence and he always attracted the best musicians to work with him. {The MSO is highly prestigious and doesn't 'back' just anyone! and they had a heck of a lot of fun stepping out of their classical comfort zone to provide this full rich orchestration to thus concert.} Check out the rest of his songs from this concert too. John is also a great songwriter, have a listen to Burn For You, that he wrote for his wife. { Hello from Tasmania } 😊

Hi, new sub here from Sydney. Thank you, I loved your comments, intelligent and perceptive. I especially found your comment on the audience participation quite beautiful. John is the original singer of a song you’ve probably heard (but may not recognise the title), You’re the Voice. He is known in Australia as The Voice. This song is where his invitation for the audience to sing is most relevant. John sings a beautiful ballad duet with Australia's darling Olivia Newton John, Please Don’t Ask Me, and an amazing stage performance of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar (last night in Sydney 1992 version). He sings a very rock energetic cover of AC/DC's It’s a Long Way to the Top where the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and rock band blend unbelievably well, genius arrangement. He shows his humorous side in a meld of opera and humour in a duet with Anthony Warlow (Aussie musical theatre and opera star) called Granada. These are all well worth a look. Cheers.

Hey Sue are you in for a ride just discovering John Farnham. He can sing anything from Rock to Opera. acting as well as a stand-up comedian. The guy started as a teenage singing sensation winning every talent show he entered but then dropped out of the limelight for many years raising a family and fighting his demons. After his recovery he returned as a middle aged singer unknown to a new generation of fans and blew everyone away. His story is legendary.

Normally, John's voice is not gritty like this. But this song was the last after a 2+hour concert which was one of high intensity just like this song, so you have to understand his voice was a little worn by the time he got to this!

Hey Gary, he definitely is! 🤩
Some other fun facts about this and John are that he was reportedly offered the lead gig with Queen following Freddie's passing (he is friends with Brian May, who joined John onstage for a national bushfire appeal we had here several years ago). It was also reported that John Lennon heard this version and really liked it, stating this is how it should have been performed. Their version was based on record label pressure to make it faster and more pop-friendly. If you like his pure vocal, I'd suggest you listen to (there is no video) his pre-show sound-check that (thanks to his sound engineer) recorded John singing Led Zeppelin's Black Dog.......absolutely outstanding.

Even touring that took him away from his wife and kids too long really bothered him. He even did a song that let him explain how he felt about being away from his wife Jill. It's called "Burn For You." By the way, John Farnham and Tom Jones are great friends. Sometime catch the video of them rocking out together at Australia's ARIA Awards, doing a cover of AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top [If You Want To Rock And Roll]." Two powerhouses! John Lennon actually got to hear Farnseys version of Help before he died. Farnsey released this in the January of 1980.... Lennon heard it and actually said that this was how HE wanted to perform the song but the music company and film company wanted an 'upbeat' version for the movie. He was then murdered in the December of that year.

Her journey is unique.. shortly before the Andre Rieu performance, she won Hollands Got Talent aged 9 without having a single singing lesson. She taught herself Opera by watching the likes of Maria Callas & Pavarotti on uTube, practicing & mimicking mouth movements & breathing techniques. This started at a mere 7 years old. I still cannot understand how a 7 year old can have the capacity to even think about Opera, let alone the determination to practice day in & day out. When you do react, you will see that Amira, even at this age , has perfect pitch & a vibrato that many a seasoned singer would envy. She sings this Aria in Italian & learned the words & the lyrics meanings so as to give the Aria its proper passion & emotion. Amira does however, speak 3 languages fluently, namely Dutch; English & Africana. This is just a small snippet of her remarkable journey and I’m sure you will fall in love as millions of her fans worldwide have. More of her journey to follow, such as her philanthropic attributes. Cheers Graeme
