I remember travelling on the train from Lancaster to Carlisle in the 1970's and the whole train seemed full of Laurel and Hardys for part of the journey, there must have been a Laurel & Hardy convention I think, a strange sight to behold.

Ulverston still in Lancashire The Government at that time stated that the "new counties" were administrative areas only, and that the boundaries of traditional counties such as Lancashire had not been changed. Unfortunately, the media refer to these administrative areas all too frequently and ignore the fact that places such as Barrow-in-Furness, Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington, etc. are still in Lancashire.

A useful comment, thanks. Last year I posted on social media that I was using a Lancashire Day Ranger to explore the Southport/Liverpool line, and someone posted that Liverpool isn't in Lancashire! Ugh.

It's hard work trying to explain to people about the traditional counties
