I bought my Acer X34 gsync monitor a few months ago, and I absolutely fell in love with it before I even powered it on. Just pulling it out of the box was a breath taking experience, I knew I was in for a treat. Skyrim, World of Warcraft, DOOM, and GTA 5 are just so immersive! I recommend it to anyone who's a gamer. KZread black bars still bug me, but not too much. I hope more media comes out in native 21:9, as finding movies is a little more bothersome than id like. Unless im looking in the wrong place, any suggestions? :D

What I really like about Ultrawides is that it's fit for a guy who does productivity. Like me. Plz I don't want to mind the black lines when I play as standard resolutions like 2560x1440 or 4K. Plus, I'd prefer an LG Ultrawide, but they are so expensive if you want 3440x1440, although 2560x1080 is a sweet spot for me since it's cheaper, I want less screen tearing and stuff like that. Conveniently, I won't list my other reasons because I have a LOT.

I honestly want one very badly but unfortuantely for a good one it is about $600- 700 at least 34 inches, way out of my budget but the games i play could so benefit from an ultrawide.

same with my girl, i picked her up in a shoe store when she heard me ask for 4 E width sneakers.
After comparing 21:9 and 4K monitors, I went with the 21:9 34" Asus PG348Q for several reasons: First, the PG348Q offers 100 Hz refresh rates and G-Sync for gaming. Second, 3440x1440 is a lot less pixels for the graphics card to push, so you get a higher refresh rate. Third, even the GTX 1080 can't get maintain a minimum of 60 FPS in most newer games at 4K, however the GTX 1080 and other GPUs can can manage over 60 FPS in most newer games at 3440x1440. Fourth, the 34" curved monitor is an amazing gaming experience. You get better immersion in the games. Fifth, the current 4K monitors can't do over 60 Hz even if you include the adaptive refresh rate monitors(unless you count thee Dell OLED monitor that cost several thousand dollars). When faster GPUs come out, I'll be limited to 60 Hz at 4K if I were to buy a 4K monitor now. Sixth, most newer movies are 21:9 and look amazing on the 21:9 monitor. You don't get the black bars at the top and bottom. Seventh, at 30-34", the distance the screen is away form my eyes on my desk, both the 4K and 3440x1440 monitor have a pixel pitch that's smaller than what I, and most other people, can see at that distance. So, going with 4K really doesn't offer a huge improvement in detail for me at that distance.

No, a watercooled 1080Ti is not enough to drive games in ultra at high framerates in 4k. I own a 1080Ti with a 3440x1440@100Hz Monitor. This Graphics card is not powerful enough for that res either.

im not sure about garenteed performance out of the box this may be just a case in overclocking but, maybe you lost the silicone lottery?
I ended up switching from an ASUS 1440p 34" ultra wide to an LG 2160p 32 inch and haven't looked back. My use case is mostly work (no video editing, I mostly monitor a very large network) and very mild gaming. Some of my more intense games I run at 1440p and the loss is nominal. It usually is used for content consumption which it does without breaking a sweat.
Thank you. This was very helpful for me.
I went with the 34" LG 21:9 ultra wide screen, and on some game you can expand your field of view giving you an advantage. Love this thing!

Actually, even your physical prerequisites show that width is better than height. If you move your head all day up and down you'll get health problems. It is much more comfortable spinning your head to the left or right. Furthermore you can't say that it is better for productivity in general. Actually it's just good for programming and some IT guys that don't write scripts even prefer a wider setting. Btw: IT guys buy 16:19 or 21:9 monitors and turn them 90°. No one uses 3:2 that's just bs. And you clearly haven't edited anything yet. It's not like people buy 21:9 monitors ONLY for editing...no...that never happens... you dig?
@lusteraliaszero

You're totally wrong were. first of all, The range within which your eye can truly focus is perfectly circular, IE, your eye focuses at a 1:1 aspect. It is also better at a adapting up and down without moving your head than left and right, it's a total nonissue, your head won't move at all, just your eyes. And your eyes will also strain less moving up and down than side to side. There's a reason every pure text format, like books, are always taller than wide. It's not going to make people nod excessively. The surface studio is 3:2. The macbooks are also taller, the chromebook, etc. Generally the premium devices marketed at designers are taller. Widescreen for video editing is bad, you want to display the video at its actual aspect ratio (wide is truly good for videos, because it's advantageous for the eye not to perceive EVERYTHING on the screen perfectly, this is more immersive) while still having space for your tools. Widescreen for drawing is terrible, you want as much real estate as possible, without traveling too much, taller is more ergonomic. curved ultrawide is obviously as bad as it gets unless you're producing niche products Turning a widescreen on its side is just another extreme too far in one direction. It would be good for a very limited selection of things, like dedicating it for programming, but this is absolutely a compromise brought on by the current market. Thankfully taller screens are making a return
Best video I've seen so far on this topic. Thanks!

Great review. Snappy and in-depth.
When you were talking about the white back of the UHD panel, it made me think of something, if you have a backlit /RGB keyboard and other peripherals, get a table with a reflective surface cause the lights look really stunning reflecting on the desk! My setup is white and my keyboard is a Ducky one YOTG, but I also have a Cougar KB/mouse combo with RGB it's just gorgeous
Nice review, I bought a few months ago the Acer B286HK, a 4K monitor, but now I'm testing the DELL UltraSharp U3415W. Both are amazing monitors, but as a developer, I feel that this ultra wide has more space for me to work. I can split the screen into 3 spaces and work more comfortable than on the 28". After one week using this ultra wide I'm thinking to sell my UHD monitor and buy this ultra wide, but let me test it for one more week :P

Exactly, that's the biggest advantage of having ultrawide. Anyone who says "ultrawide is too big. I prefer 2 monitors" literally makes no sense because your eyes are moving the same distance, only you don't have the annoying 2x bezel in the way and your content is all on one screen.

That's a good point when it comes to straight lines. I'm in love with these 21:9 monitors and really want one, but I'm a gamer who spends more time in Premiere and After Effects than any game out there. I wonder if that curve will also bother me. That being said, I've watched a few monitor reviews from tech channels, and you're the only one who raised that issue. Other channels tend to give glowing reviews when it comes to editing. Especially with the huge timeline space (a major selling point for me).

Ultrawide for sure. 4k vs. 1440p is hard to discern a difference from reasonable viewing differences, plus the UW gives you so much more real estate
*Which one would you choose?* Me: I would choose to have mercy on my wallet

Recently completed my 4k pc build and bought a 50" UHD tv to use as a monitor and its awesome for everything I do (video editing, gaming, content consumption) although it's not curved.
I've had my 34" LG 34UM67 Ultrawide 2560x1080 monitor for a year now. Never going back to 16:9 monitors. Racing and open world games look amazing and FPS titles are more immersive. 2560x1080 is NOT much more demanding than standard 1080p so most graphics cards can play high settings at full res. You won't be dissapointed if you go 21:9 ultrawide.

no, games looks great at this resolution. I can understand 1440p looks better, but for the money 21:9 1080p monitors are very good.

I have had a 29-inch 1080p ultrawide and I must tell you that maybe in gaming you don't notice the difference, but to read it does show, you need more clarity, especially for someone like me who watches IDE's and encodes most of the day.
Haha i cant afford neither

"can't neither" is a double negtive, thus you're saying you can.... What you mean is you can't afford either, and I feel you brother.

I’m gonna get both for my editing, ultra wide to edit and the 4K to preview the footage and for playback with editing
I just got an ultrawide monitor last week and I gotta say it was the best decision I made in a while. Thank goodness it isn't curved so I can use it for editing without any issues.
I tried both. I went with the 4k for a few reasons. 1 - It was what I was used to having come from a 4k monitor, and trying to get used to the reduced desktop space wasn't happening for me. 2 - I like the larger height of the 32" 4k. Things like word documents, web pages, even Steam were a "chore" to scroll through on the ultrawide. 3 - 4k is just awesome in terms of picture quality.
and I'm sitting here waiting for a 4K 21:9 monitor with thunderbolt 2...

An ultrawide monitor with the DPI of a 4k monitor would certainly require an extremely strong graphics card
Coming from a Asus Strix PG279 to an LG 34UC89G I have to say backight bleeding is still an issue if you need >professional< colors. However the 34 inch 21:9 is large enough to compensate some drawbacks of playing 1080p (16:9) content. then you also can attach the monitor with 2 cables so you have real 2 monitors in Windows. the 34 inch compensate the dividing a lot too.
I went to 3440x1440 Curved from a 27in 4k. Love it, much easier on my eyes and better for gaming.
What was again the name of the "Hack & slash" game you tested? i couldn't understand :( pls reply Dmitri

Honestly just waiting for the tech to mature before I go 4k monitor, definitively want/wait for the high refresh rates for gaming at 4k or 5k res. Watching movies is pretty insane experience which is always a bonus.

But I like having both my kidneys... I'm gonna have to wait for AMD to bring GPU prices down before either one of these is viable.
Thanks for the insights!
Like your videos, including this. Sorry you did not address productivity and screen splitting, however, as this is the reason I just ordered the non thunderbolt LG 34" unit. Next time?? Thx. Casey

@@Raulxz The true 4K panel all day long. I actually got the LG Ultrafine 21.5" 4069 x 2304 mac display. It was smaller and higher res/pixel density, good for me being nearsighted and liking to use things from shorter distances away. I also like the glossy panel finish (there are no 4K displays with a glossy finish besides the Mac ones LG makes). It works beautifully with my XPS 15 over thunderbolt, only thing is you have to download a program by a random friendly dev to control brightness on windows.
Thanks for the knowledge. I'll definitely go for the utra wide. But what do you think it's a best display for both content creation and architecture stuffs?
The answer is get both.
The Secret: Go for both at the same time. You will feel relief.

I am an IT pro and do a lot of remote desktop access. My customers give a notebook with built in VPN and Citrix. I have been on a ultrawide for 2 years and I love it. It feels like two screens. Soon I will buy a 42.5" 4k monitor. That will allow me to have like four screens with full HD each. No gaming there.
I Purchased a LG Ultrawide screen like the one in the video a few days ago and I absolutely love it. The games which support the 21:9 look phenomenal
Great video Demitri, I've only recently bought the BenQ GW2765HT and created a full review, however I am starting to consider getting a 21:9 and selling the BenQ. Hmm decisions. I edit a lot for my videos so 21:9 would be good. Not sure I'd get as annoyed about the lines. But I understand exactly what you mean.

Another option is to grab a 40" 4K monitor. Korean ones on eBay are around the price of the 27". Sadly, the one tier lower version of the LG 31MU isn't available, which is a fantastically accurate monitor that might help you with editing.
21:9 for sure...
21:9 hands down.
I would want the UHD monitor, as I can see very well with my eyes and in addition I would rotate the screen often for book reading.

I just ordered a 21:9 monitor and the decision wasn't particularly tough. I don't have to deal with the weird windows scaling, I get more effective real estate (used to working with dual monitors at work, so now I feel like I need something similar at home), and I love the curve. I don't do any photo or video editing, so the distortion is a non-factor. Not to mention that I actually have a chance of being able to run games at decent settings and native resolution while maintaining a good frame rate.
Excellent review. Helped me choose wqhd
