Ultraviolet Stereo Equaliser & G-COMP Stereo Bus Compressor | Mastering with SSL 500 Series Modules

Музыка

The UV-EQ and G-COMP 500 series modules from Solid State Logic make a powerful duo for mixing and mastering. Headphones on for best listening experience!
In this video, we work through the features on both these modules, to hear how they work across a whole mix. We used the track 'Friday Vibe' feat. Laura Wyatt from our previous video on the SSL SiX CH module.

    SSL THANK YOU. 1. THERE ARE CLEAR differences when eq and the comp engaged. 2. Again I'm sure if they had really mixed it then yeah but this demo was amazing 👏. 3. They tracked a song wit 2 ch strips and mixed it with just 2 processes. I know guys with entire consoles that can't get this sound. Again ssl thank you! Made me appreciate that eq. Again thx yall💪

    Quick question, I’m new to getting into the 500 series gear and any particular reason you went with the Cranborne Chassis instead of the other brand ones? I came across the Cranborne and was thinking’s about purchasing it. I liked the price and the noticed the switches in the back which were interesting and new to me. Just wanted your take, thanks for the video.

    We used to distribute them for the UK. The integrated USB interface in the R8 and Optical link in the 500ADAT are very very useful. They're robust and sound excellent as well!

    How did you get these two units to flow together? Is there a link type switch on the back of the chassis? How are you getting the signal to flow in stereo from the UV to the Gcomp and out?

  • @soundtechnology

    In the video, we've got these modules in the Cranborne 500ADAT. Each slot can receive & send audio from your interface over ADAT. We've routed the audio digitally through one and then the other. straight after. Hope this helps!

    @@soundtechnologyhope this gets an answer soon, how’s the latency when routing digitally?? Am I supposed to be concerned with latency if I’m only using the 500series for mastering purposes only? Not tracking

  • @soundtechnology

    @soundtechnology

    8 ай бұрын

    @@ChinoMagliba There will be some roundtrip latency when looping audio to and from the 500 rack digitally, but this can be compensated for if needed. If your entire master goes through the same chain, the latency shouldn't matter.

    So can I run a stereo output from my mixer and into that chassis and back to my interface and the signal go through each slot?

  • @Raumweiter

    @Raumweiter

    yes. If all modules are stereo. Just read about api 500 lunchbox cases, most have a switch at the back to send a channel to the next corresponding channel.

    @@Raumweiter thanks. I've read briefly about several chassis but there's alot of technical jargon that kind of confuses me. So if i have the violet EQ in a slot, then a mono compressor, does one of the 2 channels just stop? Or does it continue on as a stereo pair with only one cable affected by the EQ?

    Honestly it’s irrelevant if you use the separate AA SSL E Strip, the Sand Pre Plugin and The Slate FG Grey Cytomatic Glue Waves SSL Comp Sand Comp Or PA Townhouse Comp You will get 90% of the same sound so spending $3000 just to have 10% more because you couldn’t mixmaster right is ridiculous
