I tried one of their AM-1 consoles that a friend has in his studio in Nashville, it was the perfect compact mixer I have ever seen it had both stereo & mono channels with those amazing EQs and a direct out level for tracking (like what inline desk should do). He also had the CV channel strips as well. We tracked guitar, drums and vocals with it and when I came back home to my desk a 56 channel Soundcraft MH-2 I really wanted the AM-1. But a 8 month waiting list along with a very expensive price tag of $100,000 was a bit out of my budget. But I had no idea they were selling the EQ as a 500 series module, I might have to pick one or two of those up!

Thanks for the review. I have this on my list for a long time. Here in Germany quite a lot of people know Zähl, but outside Germany he kind of flies under the rader. BTW Mr. Zähl used to work and built a console for the iconic producer Conny Plank, so he really knows his stuff...Zähl offers a dedicated hi end housing with external psu for their modules as well. Would be interesting to have a comparisson between this and some standart 500 frames, too. And you may have a look at the ADT Audio stuff as well, another company which is not well known outside Germany. They have a series called Toolmod...I would recommend to check out their compressor packed with a bunch of features.
