Ultrasonic cleaning demonstration

Ғылым және технология

Blue Wave Ultrasonics Sales Director Jeff Hancock demonstrates the ultrasonic cleaning process and explains the relationship between ultrasonic pressure waves and microscopic cavitation bubbles working in an aqueous solution. Blue Wave, which is located in Davenport, Iowa, provided the video as a video supplement to the May 2013 issue of Cutting Tool Engineering magazine.

my motorcycle mechanic that I go to when I can't or don't want to fix something, has one of these machines. I'm rebuilding a vintage honda, and I got my cylinders back from him about a week ago... the part that holds the piston, in between the valve assembly/heads and the bottom end of the motor... and I don't want to even put them back on the bike. they are so beautiful. I didn't realize that this was a sandcast motor, but I know now.

TheBzlai Hi, I was actually gonna ask, I've heard ultrasonic cavitation results in very high temperature heat, up to 5,500 C hence sonochemistry interactions etc, is that correct?

  • @BillAnt

That's actually true, I have a small unit and I've noticed the solution heats up after running for a few minutes, but not as high as 5,000C, just below boiling.

Nothing would happen. The ultrasonic vibrations only cause whatever liquid solution to create microscopic cavitation. If the solution was water, it would feel like similar to what it would be if you stuck your hand in a jacuzzi. Any potential danger would come from what form of solution you put into the tank, like a tank of acid or something.

  • @rich1051414

TheBzlai It would likely just leave your hand feeling really dry :P As the cavitations would drive off all the oils from the skin.

Highway Star You should never dip any part of your body in the bath while the ultrasonic cleaner is running. The skin can be irritated and the joint tissues can be damaged by the energy produced by ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic energy can also cause arthritis.
