    Absolutely. Love the heft. Back in the day I spammed the hand flamers because I liked the idea of setting enemies on fire.

    When I entered a Games Workshop store for the very first time, I begged my mom to buy me a box of Space Marines. She adamantly refused to pay such exorbitant amounts of money for unbuilt, unpainted sprues of plastic. In my desperation I opened my wallet which was empty, I was sure of it. I found a single bill that I had completely forgotten about and it was the exact amount a box of Assault Marines cost. They were the then brand new 5 man plastic kit. Now I regularly pay my own money for expensive, unbuilt, unpainted sprues of plastic. 😂 Also: use microsol and microset! You'll be amazed about the result!

    I am new to Warhammer but the promotional pictures from the 90s with all the minis on the grassy green fields just crack me up. no dark, desolate worlds, no rocky, barren landscapes. Just grassy green fields.

    5 men squad are legal in 2nd! They were added in the White Dwarf magazine. 150 points for 5 guys plus their equipment as usual. For an assault squad jump packs also an extra 5 points per model, as usual. Nice video!

    I went mainly with power axes for mine. ;-) But, yes, the weight of the jump packs was an issue. I loved the plastic kit they replaced them with. Whenever my daughter had a helium balloon - which was, in hindsight, not often enough - one of the plastic jump pack marines would have the chance to float around the living room...

    They're fine sculpts even now, and you did them proud. I'm lucky enough to still have my assault squad - ten of them, led by the power fist version of the sergeant, if memory serves I got the five-man box then completed the squad with blister packs, which presumably means I had an extra left over, but I must've traded him for something. One of them's holding his chainsword in a reverse grip, which I can only assume I thought would look cool; I can tell you it does not, poor guy's been the goofy one of the squad for 20+ years now.

    If you want metal bases, here's the easy way. Washers, glue, angled rig, metal sanding paper, disc sander. Here's the less easy way. A - Purchase a bag of petrobond off ebay. 2kg ~twelve squid, more than enough for a HUGE bunch o' stuff. B - Place slottabase on sheet of something or other with suitably sized enclosure. I volunteer lego. Do so on a solid surface. C - Bury slottabase in petrobond. D - Tamp petrobond until tightly packed. E - Purchase fresh white metal. Or sacrifice very naughty miniatures. White metal goes for about forty squid a kilo, and yon sproons are, what, 50g? So it's about two squid per whole miniature. Could be a lot worse. F - white metal goes molten at a surprisingly low temperature. i used to melt mine over a camping gas stove in a beer can with an improvised handle and that worked just dandy. G - flip petrobond & enclosure over, carefully extract the slotta base. H - Carefully fill the hole with metal. Let cool. I - Trim to size. J - Mask up and disc sand the base flat. K - Sand edges to taste. The slightly harder way is to do basically all that but instead of using petrobond you also purchase some high temp casting rubber, which is cheap as chips on the ebay, plus, you get a load of castings out of it and probably don't have to sand very much. Did once upon, however, utterly ruin a pair of beige slacks. Obviously only a total bar steward would point out that a supply of high temperature white metal casting rubber could also be used to make similar moulds of virtually any piece of whatsit and as such could be used to copy any miniature in metal. or indeed in resin if you prefer. That'd be tantamount to something or other. I certainly never used that technique to increase the size of an Eldar army beyond reason, nor did i almost sicken myself with glee being able to copy pieces I had customised so my little pointers could all be distinct.

    The casting process seems useful but complex. Thanks for sharing though. For me I think weighing down plastic bases with washers is the way to go.

    @@Miniscape-wh40k Yeah, fair enough. For me, it was one of those things I tried when too young to think it could go wrong. In the end, super-easy, barely an inconvenience, but fo sho washers will work. You might also look into buying up some lead shot, the teeny tiny grades can get glued in a slotta just dandy and obviously weigh more than a steel washer. :-)

  • @Miniscape-wh40k

    @Miniscape-wh40k

    I have given this some thought. It's a good idea. Rather than using the 32mm that GW provide, I was considering using thinner 32mm bases and then magnetising the 25mm bases on top of those so the height if the base wasn't ridiculous. I will need to experiment.
