Gotta say....I really dig the Historic Brawl content...particularly this many videos of it in a row. My play has shifted in the last 6 months or so. I spam limited, particularly when a new set comes out, for the sake of building my collection of the new set and farming wild cards. I play a little bit of standard just for the sake of ranking up into platinum for max cosmetic rewards. Diamond and Mythic are only worth another pack each so not worth the sweat. Brawl and events is where I spend most of my time. It's where all of my wild cards go. What is so enjoyable about it is you can decide you don't want to be uber competitive one day and go with a slum/jank commander....and you will then get a chance to play against other jank commanders. You can't really do that in standard because if I go with a jank deck...I'm still going to be playing against people trying to ladder. It's nice to be able to decide how much of a try-hard I want to be at any given time so I appreciate the content.

You know, i also like the CGB's Historic Brawl content, but the lack of rank in this mode makes people scoop so easily because they have nothing to lose. So it makes not as much interesting as the Stardand rank content, where people fight till the last drop of hope. Well, it is what it is.

I play a lot of the usual suspects....Rusko, Bolas, Golos, etc....but a guilty pleasure is Hinata.

That first match was intense! A lovely Stevens to end it as well, brilliant!

Awesome deck. That first win against niv was icy 🥶 If you had a ton of fun with Tasha, try a build with Narset of the Ancient Way. Places in High A-Low S, and you can easily get a turn 4 ultimate using a similar play pattern of turn 2 rock, turn 3 Narset plus, turn 4 proliferate. Replace Elderspell with Flux Channeler and boom ez emblem.

When you took Day of Judgment with Thoughtseize, you 'seized the Day.

Tezzeret’s Gambit is just one of those cards that seems subpar on the surface, but everytime I play or see someone else play it in the right deck, it’s just a powerhouse. Every game CGB drew the card it let him ulti a turn faster, which is monumental.

How do you decide whether to put in cards like Mox Jet or Mox Pearl?

brawl is so fun... the one card rule make the game fantastic.. several options with no option lol... it is really fun. TY for that CGB

You could have ended the niv game 1 turn sooner by taking the elder spell and killing your own narset. It’s be risky because you didn’t know that they had only 2 creatures but hindsight is 20/20

So satisfying winning a game on 1hp, especially if it's a confident play, no timing out and the player doesn't DC.

Are there actual matchmaking tiers, or do you just have to intuit it?

i had a guess in the summer that a black blue deck with witch queen could be super interesting

This content is way better than playing variations of five or six viable standard decks every single day. Plus, we can tell you're not miserable playing them. I can see it in your eyes.

Loving January for the brawl!

I played against that same Esika Planeswalkers deck yesterday. They played the bridge side and I had nothing going on, was ready for defeat. So I played the only card I could. The Immortal Sun, only thinking that the second card draw might get me something if I survived the next turn. Then the planeswalkers started popping out. I could not believe my luck on that one. Was able to wrap up the game before they could get what they needed to blow up my Sun.

That 1st game was such a pleasure to watch.

I was leery about using wildcards for Brawl - seems like a bit risk to craft cards that you can't use in Standard if you end up not liking the deck. But I've been loving it. Having a great time with Uro. Also, not sure if the views warranted the work, but I really loved the deck tech videos! Helps me understand not just card choices but things like play patterns and the meta.

The thing is that for brawl you only need to craft 1 wc for each rare. And for some of the rares you can have worse uncommon substitutions. You can also be cheap on the mana base. It's much easier to get into the HB scene especially if you played arena for some time.

Um well...actually, may I please say that game three was exceedingly awesome...yes, I know. I'm going over the top at this point, but the games are amazing.

How do you know that she has been moved to high A-queue? Just based on the opponents you're facing?

Have you ever played Niv-Mizzet, Parun in cHB? Would love to see your take on it.

I love historic Brawl but haven't really played against any good decks with this commander. I love this list am having lots of fun with it :-) I won the first 5 games in a row XD

Guess you could say solve the equation. SOLVED THE PROBLEM in that first match. Hehe

I am rather sure that the second Niv player fetched the Curiosity with the Wishclaw. It's also why I am somewhat cautious of giving Niv decks a Wishclaw. The Niv deck is very much a combo deck, but somewhat lacks tutors (though obviously has amazing card draw).

Man the number of premature scoops from your opponents is unreal. The slightest setback or unexpected development and they take their ball and go home.

Ya know, if you had to play against yourself, you'd lose your flipping mind with how slowly you play.

The thing that pisses me off the most about HB right now is for whatever reason Rusko has not been solidified into hell queue yet so I'm over playing my wide variety of HB decks and more than 50% of the time I'm queuing up against Rusko and its absolute bullshit. I don't understand why Rusko is being paired down so much after he's proven he's like the top 3 god tier HB deck alongside Teferi and Niv.

Hey cgb why dont you try Vannifar? I played her a bunch and she seemed very strong and consistent

dark ritual vs black lotus. benefits and draw backs. black lotus is and artifact has to be sacrificed but it cots 0. dark ritual is an instant some cards let you play instants from your graveyard and you can copy them lol.

i noticed, u wouldnt get the tasha back with blood on the snow cause u would only have 3 snow lands not 4

Hey CGB! Could you maybe include suggestions for more Budget Versions of your Historic Brawl decks? I love all the Decks and Especially the Esper/Dimir/Azorious Colored ones but they are so freaking expensive. So if possible some suggestions to make them a little bit more affordable (especially the Mana Base) would be nice and much appreciated!

@@FOX119900 kinda the same thing, though, tbh. IIRC, his response was something along the lines of considering it his obligation to show people the best decks, as they’re supposed to be built for the greatest success, and leaving it open to viewers to make their own cuts if they need to.

wait wait wait....... are you say the queue to play is based off commanders and not just finding randoms to play at the same time i am?? cuz i call complete bs on that. i get paired against 5 color horrendously too much when playing literally anything, and i switch it up every day. i rarely can beat any 5 color build unless i'm playing 3+ color.

Destroying Niv is so satisfying on its own, but beating Niv by making them draw from an empty deck? I don't think there's a better feeling in all of Magic.

I still don't understand why they had to make a new version for Alchemy, using the same art just to keep people guessing. I actually like the Alchemy version better. I'd love that piece to be actual cardboard. The fact I know it won't be makes me sad. It was a perfectly good idea for a piece of cardboard, and now it just can't be one.

I so hate Kinnen. There really are only two types of players who run them: player A wants nothing more than to spin the wheel for chonkers starting on turn 4 and if you put that off by even a turn they run away from the game faster than Roadrunner. Player B just wants to spin as many times as possible and will refuse to give up any game, no matter how hopeless it is, because they might, just MIGHT, hit that creature that somehow wins them the game. So they're casting a 10, 12, 14 mana Kinnen every turn, with no ability to defend, protect or spin him until you manage to finally grab the kill from them (with my Tasha deck it's often with their crappy mana creatures since I rarely ever manage to hit one of their chonkers).

So why are you okay with playing alchemy cards in brawl, but not in the alchemy format. Just play alchemy, and finally admit that it’s be best format! (I know you are a closet alchemy fan, and I’m here to out you)
