Hey Derek ! Roger here. I had several Monte Carlo's when I was young. They are all light in the front and the doors after a bit, fall and start shattering the door glass. But, I still love these cars. Thanks for bringing back a lot of memories. You Rock Dude.

@@CoIoneIPanic Oh like my 98 Civic DX with my $95 SS Ricer Muffler that's loud enough with the silencer in? Pull off the silencer and of course, the noise probably adds like another 35hp to a 105hp engine until the cops pull you over for a loud muffler! My 07 Si(turbo with 197hp) does circles around my 98 Civic DX, and my 95 Dodge Cummins 500+hp diesel does circles around my SI (never tested, but Probably 14 sec 1/4 mile?). Without a boosted launch it will do about 70-75 mph in 3/10 mile, 1/2-3/4 throttle! Probably the fastest Cummins in my county! About 0-70 in 6-7 seconds!

My mom bought a new 74 Monte because she fell in love when she saw it. Steel gray, black landau top with black interior and buckets. She never asked about the motor. Yea, it was a 400 and it would rip. Not as well as the one she got rid of though. She said that one was hard to drive and had too much power. That one was a 71 Monte with a 454. Loved that cal. Thanks for the memories

DIg them too. One long heavy car but they cruise on the fwy so well! We would drive cross country like most in the summers going state to state these were perfect with that ice cold R12 ac. Back when chit was built to last!

Visualize in your mind , a 78 trans am shaker scoop poking though the hood of a 74 Monte Carlo ! That’s what I did to mine. I attached it to the inside of the hood directly over the carb and made fully functional. Every body thought it was a factory setup ! It looked sooo good.

"Don't want to get the hands dirty", cause it's taco night" A guys got to appreciate that.

When these Monte Carlo's were new, the handling was incredible. (For that time.) And they were pretty quick. I had one and loved dogging on it.

The 400 small block Chevy was externally balanced, it has an 8" harmonic balancer with a section of it missing so it's pretty much all you need to look at.

That black-hole-sized fan shroud … !!! Yes!

THAT IS A 61 THOUSAND MILE CAR!!!! WOW!!!! I'm 60 yo redneck and I can say "I'VE OWEND A FEW IN MY LIFE!" and that is a "61,000 mile car"! Good find! They float and they are easy to sink! But them SOB's sure can take a like! One of the best derby cars you can be in! They can look BADASS if done right! You don't see them anymore?

My guess is that it went something like this. “Well junior, good news and bad news. Bad news is that your grandma keeled over. Good news is that you get to have that super clean Monte Carlo of hers. Now don’t you go doin nothing stupid to it."

My wife brought a '71 to the marriage, dowry. 400/400 was that pretty metal sky blue with the full Naugahyde roof. What I liked was the trunk were so big and the sheet metal so thick that when the barkeep put the buckshot to us, the pellets didn't make it through into the back seat.

The Monte was a mid size,more of a runabout than a yacht. There were plenty of land yachts for sure in '74. Big bucks,oldsmobiles, lincolns, Ford's,caddies and Chrysler's. I think you have a good idea for a yacht club. It's about time people start those big boats some love.

@@toddingram1198 Mine isn’t original unfortunately. Someone put the GTO buckets and console up front. The back seat is missing, and finding a good frame for it under $300 will be fun. The Mach 1 thankfully is all there and numbers matching. It needs to be restored but the interior isn’t that bad.

In the early 90s I acquired a 1973 caprice classic with same engine, I removed it put an a performer intake, comp 260 cam, headers and quadrajet dropped it in an 82 Swb Chevy truck, it ran 15.5s at the strip with 3.08 gears ! Great motor! I really enjoy your channel!

@@mattv8919 yes they were original heads I believe were 882 castings(small valves). I even used the transmission out of the caprice it was a 375 turbo which I think was a long tail 400 turbo. Fun times

I loved my Monte she was a couple of years older then yours and had a 350/4 barrel other she was a twin to what you have and that long hood was sweet down some lonely dirt road, remember parking, yep I'm old. This video brought back some memory's

I almost lost my tuna sandwich when a feller started to sing the "bra, bra, bra, "gasolina" song at 43:49 , on his way to get some "gasolina". Happy he included some jerky body movements to complete the sale!!! lol!!

Brings back fond memories of my youth. In the 80s when I was in my 20s I had a green '75 Landau with a white top and interior. Blew my 6x9s and installed house speakers and always had a bottle of Jim Beam under the seat. Went to hell and back in that beast and she never let me down.

Watching you smile while testing the car and talking about having to upgrade the suspension for safety purposes was the best part. :)

This is one of the best episodes on this channel. Please find more cars that are abandoned for decades and do the right thing by supercharging them and doing sick Burnouts!

I love the engineering that went into the headrests in those old cars. They provide zero insurance and comfort!.

"Could this be 61,000 actual miles??" Considering the wear item you've shown us we think that likely it is for real a 61K actual miles Landau!.

My grandparents drove an 87 monte carlo forever (bought it brand new when I was born), the absolute slickest car there ever was. All original and my grandpa babied on it. That was their going to town rig forever til they sold it when I was in high school

In the 1970s, I had two favorite cars - a '73 Gran Torino station wagon (hold laughter please) and a '74 Monte Carlo. Both great fun cars that carry great memories (some *really* great). The second gen Montes were gorgeous even with those huge bumpers. I also thought the round headlight versions were more handsome than the '76 '77 square headlight versions.

To find a 70s chevy with that lil rust is amazing.

I had a '74 Monte Carlo. Looked just like that one. Mine was a brown metallic with a 350 in it. The only real problem I had with it was the transmission went out. I got one from a junk yard for $150, a guy put it in for $150 and it ran like new then. Great car. I drove it to Denver, then went over the continental divide but not through the Eisenhower tunnel, instead I drove the old hwy 6 that goes over the top of the mountains. I passed a sign that said 13,000 feet and kept going up some before it started back down. That Chevy 350 seemed to have as much power up there as it did at sea level. Great engine. It was a little harder to start at high altitude but once running very little difference.

1974 Monte. My first car. Great car, spentn2 months in the driveway changing the cam. HYOOGE engine compartment. Could crawl in, shut the hood, and still play basketball.... LOL.

I had a 75 when I was a kid back in 97 that had the captain seats that swiveled and a center console. The seats were awesome though they turned sideways so you can get in and out easier I loved it.

I'd really like to see a guy put some shine on this old girl.

"Moses SANDALS" was my favorite for the longest time, but that has now been replaced. "Mary's bo staff!" is the hip new thing all the kids are saying it seems.

Throw a pause traction rear end in it that a hold it straight while it's burns rubber I Love them old cars and trucks easy too work on and they gott real style about them I Love that old car you call Rocky.

My aunt loved Monte Carlos. Her favorite was a 78 Monte that had a 6.6L 400ci small block with a Edelbrock 4barell carb on day one. Her boyfriend on day two dug into the parts leftover from his smashed 78 Vette. He transplanted a Weiand 177 series long nose single carb blower, Weiand intake manifold,New Weiand high temp/high pressure metal gaskets and mounting hard ware H2O high temp therm, Holley 1250cfm duel pump electronic 4port 16 jet fuel injection carb replacement unit in fire blue, MSD HEI Coil, distributor, plug wires, Iridium tip Y split plugs, Weiand chrome tall valve covers with T handle bolts, MSD programmable ECU. The car already had ported and polished Alum Ram Air IV Hydraulic Flat Heads w/hardened 4130 TRP hardware, COMP Cams Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam, Alloy Roller Rocker Arms, COMP double roller stainless timing chain, Ceramic Hugger Headers.

“Moses sandals this thing is fast”, “did I just swallow a tooth?”. Love the first and second gen. Monte Carlos, I had a ‘77 Landau 350 4bbl, swivel buckets, console car. Now I want it back.

I robbed a set of those seats 30ish years ago to put in my 55 Chevy 2-door. Alas, still not finished yet, but watching this sure does help motivate a guy!! Thanks !

I have the same car with a 383 stroker and a 150 shot of NOS, 355 posi and a B and M tranny. Body is straight, interior clean. Lots of fun.

ugh and to add to the sadness this video also reminds me of a friend of mine for 20yrs or more we lost to diabetus at the end of last yr, he had one of these when we were growing up.. love all the hard work you share with us.. we all appreciatecha

I love this car too. I owned a 1973 with a 350, had it back in the 80s. They are much fun to drive and float on the highway. Looking at that dash and steering wheel brought back memories. The one I drove was blue with the black top and had swivel bucket seats, power windows and locks, rally rims.

74 Monte Carlo was my first car! Awesome memories, thanks Derek!

That one's a keeper, D-wreck. The round-headlight Montes and Malibus look way better than the 4 eyed square ones.

Love the shortened plastic culvert to cover the fan! Damn that’s long!

I have a deep love of the old MC's. Also had an old Grand Am with a small block 400. Sure brought back some fond memories for me on this one.

I'd love to see more of the ole landau edition,one of my favorite episode and what a unit, definitely going to town level stuff.

Watch the hood hinges... they like to stiffen up on guy, then the hood bends in half , and I ain't kiddin ya

Had every small block Chevy ever made 400 is my favorite last one I built was a 406 541hp 499ft lb at 7,200 rpm had it in a 4 door 65 Chevy ll
