    Your videos are soooo good! i couldn't care less about an onboard air system, but i still watched every second. I love the GX460 so more, more, more videos! The grill looks fantastic and doubt you'd want to strip off the Plasti Dip, but maybe a video about that would be good. Do you still have your stock radio? Any updates of entertainment options for the kids?

    Thanks , Tim! I was really on the fence with whether this one would be entertaining enough to hold someone who wasn't doing this project . This comment makes all that work to try and balance it worth it. I've been thinking I should do a plasti-dip video but I'm waiting for it to peel. I did like 10 coats on the first run so it might be a while : ) Still looks perfect unfortunately. Would you watch if did a travelogue? Riding along with me and the dog and or family in the GX? It wouldn't be scripted so there would be less dad jokes but more me looking like an idiot, only in nature instead of the garage.

    @@Schmidee Sorry, Chris! I just squished the consonants together in your screen name I think : ) The IG account was created at 10am this morning but I hear you. Looks pretty shabby at the moment. I think the 6 month update is a fantastic idea... and yes it still smells like smoke. I need to Ozone it. I may try to get up to the snow this weekend and make a video on how the KO2's handle it. It's hard because I think so much of my contribution comes from the writing so I have to find a balance where I'm comfortable putting out unscripted stuff where I'm only sort of funny : ) Stay tuned and thank you for supporting the channel!

    Thanks for these videos. I was finally able to mount the 2781 with the powertray and similar setup under the hood. The clearances are really tight but I was able to mount it using the rubber feet from the smitty's compressor tray on to the powertray. Minor interference from the hood strut on the on/off switch but it does seam to only effect the rubber cover of the switch and not the actual switch. If I had drilled a few mm off left, it would have been perfect.

    Don't use the 2780, use the 2781 or an ironman 4x4 large compressor. Mine still works fine but above 8000' it will only get up to 88-95psi I've discovered after many trips. It also overheats if you try to take 4 32" tires from 15psi to 40psi. Works fine to 35ish, but always overheats on the 4th tire when I try to go to 40PSI. I'll do a new video when my new compressor finally arrives.

    Great video! It gave me a really clear idea of what it might take to do an on-board air setup on my LR3. It looks like your pressure switch moved from the t-fitting on the compressor to the t-fitting on the manifold between shots, though. Did you find it more useful in one location over the other? And I noticed that when you moved the pressure switch, that you also installed a pressure relief valve on the t-fitting on the compressor. Can you explain why you chose to do that, as well? I haven't seen anyone else choose to do that, so just curious. Thanks!

  • @WastingTimeInTheWoods

    @WastingTimeInTheWoods

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey buddy. I love that Rover guys found this! You are correct. I moved it from the compressor to the manifold. I put it before the manifold inlet valve so that when you shut off the manifold, pressure builds up between the check valve and manifold triggering the compressor shut off. I put a 125psi safety blow off valve where the pressure switch had been near the compressor. I cover all this in the next video. That should be out in a week or so. Just need to find time to edit it. Thanks for watching!

  • @wilurbean
    @wilurbean3 жыл бұрын

    You should add a relay/switch in the cabin that goes inline with your pressure switch. That way you can turn off the pump permanently from inside the cabin and lockout any drain on the battery when it's sitting, or you could do the same with a relay that pulls power from the ACC II (RUN) ignition setting. That would keep the pump off unless the vehicle is running and on. I also use my 7 year old niece for the small spaces and bolts/lights lmao. She gets to drive it off road too, as payment of course

    That’s a good idea as I’m trying to figure out how to wire the second relay that will go into ignition on source. It would be going into one of my up switches then to a relay then to pressure switch? What would I do on the mod he did from compressor internals going to the pressure switch?

    I am just curious on why you went with the smittybuilt 2780 vs the 2781. The 2781 has double the cfm of the 2780 for an extra $60. Was the choice based on cost ? or size for the space in the engine bay?

    No but it overheats half way through my 4th tire (265's) if the compressor is in direct sunlight or if we're above about 7500 feet, which is most of the places we air up. Great video and sense of humor! (I hope no children were harmed during the slave-labored small hand install). You've inspired me to figure out how to duplicate this with my Viair 400P. I am wondering if I can use their sealed external pressure switch and relay, I'll have to research this a bit more. I think I may secure the compressor with some butterfly nuts and "Y" the power cable so I can still attach battery lead clamps in case I ever want to quickly take it off to take in another vehicle. I'm also thinking it wouldn't be a ton more work adding the air disconnect at each fender well like they did for the "Wifey setup". The most challenging piece would be finding or making brackets I presume. If you didn't do the above then the final addition which I think could be cool is adding something like the speedflate: www.speedflate.com as a way to air up/down simultaneously while taking up less hose space. I'm thinking in the back left portion of the engine bay (as you're facing the engine) there is enough space to store the hose. Maybe make a small compartment that opens to store the house in and free up space in the vehicle. Are you in AZ? I'm in Ahwatukee and your surroundings looked familiar. Thx again for the great video.

Space is tight on my end with two kids and a dog. FYI - framing straps and supports might make a good bracket for cheap. That's what I was tracking towards.
