Ben judges and critiques Mike way harder than the other two. Look at the meringue watch back - he says Mike doesn't do much but doesn;t to Barry, for example.

I think the problem was that Barry probably thought the pastry issue last time was an accident that happens to everyone sometimes so he didn't practice with pastry leading up to the battle

@@Yukiwodashite As a chef myself, I know how Barry's pie would have turned out without Ebbers helping him out. It would have been less than great, and we likely would have had a repeat of what happened in the original battle. I think Barry almost earned it, but not quite all the way there.

@@aggronio353 They certainly are all capable, but if they are going to do this whole badge challenge this year I think it would be nice if the chefs stopped going so easy on them. Especially since they can always try again later in the year. Like you suggested with him being almost there, I think he could have learned from this and done something with it in the months to come.

Barry: Screws up every step of the way, Ben corrects him, gets a badge for his vast knowledge he did not use at all. Therefore he is on top of the leaderboard, completely deserved. Or so it seems.

Agreed. I think the badge videos where everyone did the same thing for badges is perfect but these random badges aren't that great. When everyone gets the meringue badge when only one person actually made meringue it kinda defeats the purpose of the badges to begin with. Likewise, Berry being instructed on how to make his pastry and then receiving a badge for it really undermines the whole premise behind the badge system/game. The badges are meant to see who is more "chef-y", as in who can cook the best without assistance from chefs.

Probably would've failed? Would have run out of time: fail If Ben didn't measure everything out for him: fail. Pastry would have been cold on the outside and warm in the middle: fail. No flambe on mushrooms: potential fail on flavor. Barry and his loose bottom: fail fail fail. Hahahahahahaha, if the verdict was different I would be mad, so I feel like James and Ben just shook on this altogether. Especially since Mike has gotten the shaft for badges.

I think it would be interesting to have each normal cook their "signature" dish or one they come up with on their own, without knowing what badge(s) they may receive. Ben and James could award as many badges as they see fit depending on the dish.

@@deprofundis3293 - Love how you're literally copy-pasting this exact same comment underneath anyone criticizing Barry. Pretty sure the man's already married, stop trying so hard. If Ben hadn't correctly eye-balled the ingredients he'd put out for Barry then there wouldn't have been pastry to begin with. If Ben hadn't corrected him on the big ball for resting the dough wouldn't have rested in time to be used. And if Ben hadn't called it out, Barry wouldn't have egg-washed it. And with all that help; the bottom still puffed up, the edges had to be repaired, the top had to be repaired, he didn't have time to crunch his chicken skin over the top, and the bottom wasn't baked enough. Not to mention this was a second attempt at the dish, he _knew_ he was going for the pastry badge,.. overall just a poor performance. Compare that to Mike who went in for the seasoning badge, actually displayed his knowledge on the topic by talking about the triangle. Correcting all by himself the salty jus with a bit of sugar, and then correctly balancing it all out with the rest of the burger. To the point where it was the winning dish. Displayed knowledge and skill and independence, no chef help, and won the challenge too.

I like it better when the badges are something to be proud of. Not just something everyone gets unless they really really really mess up.

Yeah, people used to say Mike is the weakest 'normal' and he won 3 for 3 here, while Barry was handheld by Ben... Barry shouldn't have won the meringue badge. He didn't do anything to the meringue itself, unlike Jamie - who started it properly and Mike - who checked it and finished it.

@@deprofundis3293 to my mind, they aren't normals anymore: they've been on the show for so long, they should be more than average Joe's. For example, Jamie have been multitasking for quite some time unlike Barry. Sure Mike panics all the time but he did manage a thousand layers of pasta. Barry still give undercooked food. I thing we're realistic even if we do like Barry on the show.

Ben held Barry's hand the entire time, on everything from telling him how to rest it, how to patch it, how to fix the puffing. I agree. I feel like to deserve a badge, you have to show that you did research to understand the techniques. It just seemed like Barry was flying by the seat of his pants and hoping that experience would carry him through. And it didn’t, he needed so much help. He didn’t deserve the meringue badge or the pastry badge, if you ask me.

Scratching my head a bit because Barry is on the top of badge numbers, but I'm not sure if he really earned the pastry or meringue badges since Ben helped him correct the pastry and he didn't do much with the meringue at all. On the other hand Mike is still missing his unusual ingredients badge that he definitely earned. By my count it should be Jamie and Mike tied at the top and Barry one badge behind, or maybe a 3 way tie if you insist on giving Barry the pastry badge because he DID successfully fix it even though he was helped a bit

Mike: "That hurt even me." - the way that I cackled! Also, I absolutely think that Mike deserved the win. As much as I love all of them, Mike has consistently shown improvement in the kitchen and he was very confident and even when the reducing went bad he didn't flaff around, but knew what to do. Well deserved, congrats!

I died when Mike fluffed his boa aggressively over Barry's dish haha.

Idk I don't feel like Barry should've gotten the pastry badge or the meringue badge before it lol

Badge criteria has dropped right off. At the start it was like nope some of the carrots arev2mm longer than the others no badge for you. Now it is like we will prevent you from making any mistakes by pointing every error out to you and as long as you don't totally mess is up you get a badge, you get a badge, everyone gets a badge!!!! Why didn't Jamie get a badge? Sure he did nothing but the other two got a badge last time for doing nothing too!

I agree with what most people have said with regards to Barry getting the pastry badge. Probably not entirely deserved

I'm confuzzelled why Mike is even wearing a wig, like that's what his hair looks like always 😂

I did like it when Barry said, “You are the champion, my friend.” But... the pastry badge, when he was coached through the whole process? Ehhhh...

While Barrys pastry were alot better than last time, i feel like he got a fair amount of help! What if he had put his pastry in the fridge, as a ball instead of first being told to flatten it, where would he have ended then? If we look to Mike, he realised his Jus were too salted because of over reducing it and corrected it by using some sugar. While we don't see if it's actually Ben or someone else pointing it out to Mike, it gets showed as if he figured it out himself, while Barry got fair help with his Pastry. I just get the feeling that the Badges would mean more, if they were earned "alone". Of course if they are going really off track, hint to them instead of just telling them what to do! :D

Mike should get a badge just for winning every challenge so far! And improvement badge or cool under pressure badge lol

This one is going to Mike. Barry struggled so much when the goal is to show both mastery and skill. That includes, fixing mistakes without outside input. Mike adjusted things on his own. Barry had so much from the sideline that he didn't have to rely on or live up to his mistakes in this one.

I will never get over them using Ben’s face as a censor bar when people curse 😂😂

How on earth did barry win a pastry badge when ben had to remind him of almost every step?

Ben did not help out every step of the way, dude. Watch it again. Most of the time he was commenting on something Baz was already doing!

These might be my favorite costumes in any battle!

I feel like the double clink of the egg in the intro makes the chefs feel vaguely pleased with themselves for only needing to clink an egg once to crack it

Mike should get a badge for winning all three battles! Also, he is still owed the special ingredient badge in my book.

I can't help but notice how at the start of the badge battles it was said that they could lose badges. and the only one i can think of was to take it away from barry. The Meringue badge wasn't deserved. Jamie made the meringue, Mike plated it. Barry did nothing with it, he just changed what the dish was from a tart to a baked alaska. he didn't even touch the meringue and got a badge for it. How is that fair?! I'd be happy with a 3-way tie but not barry in the lead.

@@jemmaj2919 Actually he didn't measure the ingredients. He had portions set out for him, but they weren't measured. That's why he was like "You were supposed to measure the amount of salt you needed from that container, not put the whole thing in" Pure luck the proportions were close enough.

@@madock345 you are obviously undermining Ben's years of baking experience. You can easily guess portion sizes without a recipe just from experience. If this was done by someone without experience, they'll get it most likely wrong. So it isn't really luck.

I can't help but feel like they are being way too generous with the badges now. Its far more rare for them to not get them getting them at this point. With the amount Ben had to tell baz to do added with how it still did not turn out perfect, the fact he still got it is saying they have really lowered the bar for the badges.

Mike missed out one Jamie's "are you still standing?" question. He should have said "Yeah Yeah Yeah"🎶 lol

Barry Defenitly didn't deserve the badge. Ebberz held his hand all the time. It's unfair to Mike. Really reallu unfair

Mike' dishes are always so creative and somehow he rarely gets to be the winner so I'm so glad of the outcome. That sandwich looked really good. By the way, this cook book really excites me, I consider getting one even if some of the ingredients used are not available in my country.

How Barry has won the last two badges is beyond me. Barry and Ben indeed must be the best of friends.

I'm feeling a biased attitude towards baz especially when ben is the one judging them

Ben getting too generous!! I didn't feel Barry deserved the badge, I wanted him to do well so badly, but I don't think he deserved the badge

I love that they clearly bought one pair of clip on earrings and just shared them for both costumes hahahaha

I'm so proud of Mike! 3 incredible dishes and he should 100% get a badge for all 3 wins! Still cannot believe Barry managed to get a pastry badge for pastry that Ben had to help step by step through 🤣🤣

That "You are the champion, my friend" at the end was bizarrely heartwarming.
