Do you think our country should have allowed Cuba to become an anti US military base? We did the same thing Putin and Russia is doing. We were more fortunate as the world wasn't funding Cuba and they met our demands before we had to invade them. Russia's demands had been simple and here we are acting like Russia is the bad guy. If Russia were willing to raze the civilians of Ukraine then they could have ended Ukraine's resistance quickly. Since they can't do that for reasons, the war is going to be long and drawn out with many countries funding Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Air Force inherited _sixty_ airworthy TU-22M and scrapped all of them mostly due to _American_ pressure, as the US tried not to irk the ruzzians. The same US who incidentally also signed the Budapest Memorandum, upholding and guaranteeing the Ukrainian Independence and Sovereignty. Just imagine the value of such aircraft in the current war! Anything the US may do to help Ukraine now is both due, and overdue. Lest we forget.

Well, that was 30 years ago when we thought Russia was going to be a "normal" country. In any case, the Backfires really weren't much good as conventional weapons platforms. They were designed for nuclear stand off air-to-surface missles, and Urkraine keeping the nukes they ended up with on their territory wou;d have been a bad idea on a number of fronts.

@@icu17siberia because there were a lot of Russian agents in the government + US pressure to get rid of and not create strategic weapons(missiles, jets). Also, before 2014 last 2 Ukrainian ministers of defences were actual Russian citizens and they left Ukraine as soon as the war started. Ukraine gave part of its Tu-22Ms, Tu-95MSs, Tu-160, and hundreds of missiles(Kh-55, Kh-22) to Russia, and the rest were scrapped under the agreement led by the US and it was not about nuclear arsenal at all. And yes, there was a significant responsibility of the Ukrainian government and people too.

Presumably it got hit and made it part of the way back to base but not all the way. Most anti-air missiles don't make the plane explode like they do in the movies, they have a proximity head that hits the plane like a shotgun blast. Fragments may damage vital parts of the plane but not make it crash immediately.

Ukraine did not shoot this down. This plane was shot down either by friendly fire from Russia or on board fire that started. It was way to far east in Russia for any Ukrainian Air Defense to have shot at it.

interesting, its range is only 250km. S-200V Angara (US designation SA-5b) fielded in 1971, used the longer-range 250 km 5V28 missile. Must be an UFO👽

It's a little over 400 km, not 700. 1 mile is slightly more then 1.6 km's.

I wish people would stop taking videos with cell phones in the vertical position. It's like trying to look into a room, with the door only opened an inch. Use the horizontal position and stay on the subject and hold the camera steady.

There are no missile traces and also the range is too long for any AA missile to shoot it that far.

That's cuz u listen to the MSM and the real reason Obama in 2014 removed the government in Ukraine by force but no one stopped them. How come u didn't hear that and from that time on they have been killing those that speak Russian and orthodox Russians and there was no problem there and they were Ukrainian people. U don't MSM are owned by the new world order freaks and they lie to the people. Can't tell everything but one more at least 46 bio lab's on the border of Ukraine and that's against international law but did the UN stop no cuz they are corrupt and compromised by the same ones just like NATO the WHO and many more. Russia fans told that their fighter yets are the best and told a lot of bad things about Western plane. However, when their weapons are destroyed, they choose keeping silence. Then find other cases to continue telling bad things about Western machines.

You know things are bad when a self-propelled gun has to be fired from outside the vehicle due to poor gun condition and untrustworthy ammo. Happened to the Brits also in the desert with old 165mm Demo rounds for the AVRE Centurion version.

According to a more reliable website (Ukrainian) covering the war, this happened inside Russian territory and was the result of mechanical failure or friendly fire.

Don't be silly... there is no "friendly Fire" inside Russia... actually there should be No Fire inside Russia... The plane was obviously downed inside Ukraine 250 miles from the Russian border, after a bombing mission... It was trying to get back to Base but the Ukrainians got it... and will never have another "bombing mission"...

Says something when ‘russian tech’ is capable pf shooting down their own ‘super bomber’. Imagine what western tech will do to anything in range.

Something tells me that parts of that plane are already in England if not Langley.
