Because this video is getting a lot of views recently: The footage used here is real. These groups and the threat they pose is also real. *However* this is not, and never was, a justification for war. It is tragic that the Kremlin has used the very real presence of these groups as justification for invasion. Anyone paying attention to the developments in the last 8 years will know this war has nothing to do with "denazification." Putin is no anti-fascist (he is also, as some leftists seem to have forgotten, explicitly anti-communist). If he was, he would have been just as concerned about the right-wing militias present among the Donbass separatists. Ultimately, this war is about the eruption of geopolitical tensions between Russia and the West, which could have easily been diffused. Instead, the West coaxed Ukraine into pursuing a path towards integration, knowing full-well that there was never an intention of bringing Ukrainians into the fold. Russia then committed itself to a war that will not only destroy and immmiserare Ukraine, but likely come at a great cost borne by ordinary Russians at home. The victims in this situation are many: first and foremost, innocent Ukrainians; the people of the Donbass region; the ordinary Russian (and Belarusian) citizens that will be paying for the cost of this war for many years to come; and likely many working people around the world as the economic ramifications of this war ripple outwards. It's only the rich and powerful that will be least affected by this conflict. As is stated in the video, neither the interests of the Russian elite, nor those of the Western elite, have any consideration for the welfare of Ukrainian people. Recent events have only served to reinforce that point. This channel continues to support true Ukrainian sovereignty -- free of Russian incursion and unbeholden to the abusive strategic objectives of the West. The only free Ukraine is the one that is not subjugated by any ruling class.

I would like to add that before this, the people of the DPR and LPR had to suffer under Ukrainian artillery strikes and military incursions from the fascist militias, so the violence and murder did not start with the invasion, this is merely the predictable escalation, allowing the US to unify their bloc, the EU to justify raising military spending and fossil fuel companies to sell overprices fracking gas from the US to Europeans. Abolish NATO.

@@sp.8727 NATO is and was the original imperialist institution. From the West I can only rally for the abolishment of the Imperial mechanism that I live under, it is up to comrades in Russia to do the same in their countries when it becomes possible. Right now saying that CIS should be abolished first is unrealistic, since NATO is a stronger pact and is explicitly anti-Russia, having rejected its applications twice, once as the USSR and once as modern Russia.

@@imatreebelieveme6094 I agree that things have to change, albeit through structural reforms instead of gutting the pact, but whose to say the CIS won't just take advantage of the fall of NATO to ramp up its own age of imperialism or neo-imperialism? Oh yes - rest assure that a channel named “The Marxist Project” will present 100% truthful information and is absolutely non bias.... I’m far from the notion everything presented here is a lie but without a doubt it’s a significant distortion of the truth (or selective omission). Forming your opinion/viewpoint on such a complex and important topic just by watching a 20min video and calling it research is pseudo-intellectualism at best. Not only that but it’s made by ppl who obviously practice extreme ideologies. Kinda ironic. We have a saying here that goes like “Stop that thief! - yelled out the thief.” IMO regardless what the given issue is the truth is always somewhere in the middle. So if you really want to research a topic regardless if it’s this one or smth else get your information from as much different sources as possible and than form your opinion otherwise you are just doing yourself a bad favour.

Fun fact, there is a LITERAL NAZI memorial in Oakville Ontario that honors the 1st Ukrainian Division. Following the conclusion of the second world war, many capitalist countries became destinations of Nazis where they were granted refuge. Of course this was done to help push forward any sort of anti-communist rhetoric to use against the socialist bloc and various bourgeois pigs funded these projects. Our capitalist government wanted their lies and gave them new lives. The capitalists would much rather prefer having fascists in charge to defend their class interests when their sham of a democracy inevitably fails.

As you watch this video, I hope it conveys to you what is at stake and why political activism is so important. If we don't struggle for a better world, who will?

@@ozza1785 Because since coming into office the Putin government has done a pretty significant crackdown on neonazis. Still a shitty government, but there has been an attempt to clean out the worst elements, which hasn't been the case for Ukraine. In Ukraine half their national guard seems to consist of deputized right wing militia groups. If you're going to do this documentary, West Ukraine still comes out way worse in the end. Just as a point of comparison - during the 2014-15 war in the Donbass, a Don Quixote type named Stanislav Kim, who was then at the time mayor of Golorvka, declared the restoration of the "true homeland," the restoration of the Ukrainian SSR. There was also a working class anarchist commander Mozgovoi who established links with international leftist parties and even organized a conference for the left. These people could not have even existed on the Banderite side. Sure, the donbass rebels worked alongside traditionalist tsarist nationalists like Strelkov (who now periodically attacks Putin from the right), but there's a material difference between a side that tolerates the left and one that is genocidally hostile to it.

I don't really know any other country who do 24/7 "all world is bad and we are the greatest nation/killing half of Ukraine population would be a good thing" on gov funded tv. Hate on all other countries. Not even talking about racism inside the country - racism on chechens, kazakhs, uzbeks and recently on crimean tatars... Ukraine might have all those nazi movements, but at the same time there is no hate on others (except russian gov, for obvious reason) and no "national superiority" thing. Still a lot of work to do - people need to become more tolerant to others, hate on someone who is "not like others" is still there, but tolerance becoming better with younger generation. And well pretty much all slav countries have issues with tolerating stuff.

TheMarxistProject Because this video is getting a lot of views recently: These groups were partially created and financed (massively) by the Pentagon, from way before 2014, just as the insurgent Islamists in Libya or Syria were, with the certain intent of destabilizing the given region - in this case: Ukraine. Hence, geo-politically, the argumentation by the Kremlin in this regard is fully sound and understandable: Such groups must be removed (in this case the region de-nazified) in order to stabilize the region and spoil one of the hegemonic true and real-life conspiracy venues of the US.

@S A G A You have full porridge in your head, citizen! First, how did Soviet Russia discriminate against communism and socialism in Eastern Europe? I would like to ask you, what exactly discriminated? Communism or socialism? For your information, socialism was built in the USSR. Yes, they sought comunism, but it was never built. And how could it be discredited if it was the first experience of building a new type of state? Did you think that the communists built a new system according to the textbook? There was no such thing. Naturally there were mistakes, there were shortcomings. When did you see anything, what did you do perfectly without the experience of previous generations? Secondly, how in Eastern Europe was the USSR perceived as "Kremlin Imperialism and Chauvinism"? You answer the question first citizen what is Imperialism and Chauvinism? Are you familiar with the terms at all? Did you read about this from Dimitrov? In Europe, they knew for sure that the USSR was not an imperialist or even a chauvinist, they wanted to because Lenin wrote his essay "Imperialism, as the highest stage of capitalism" and Stalin wrote his essay "Marxism and the national question." There was no chauvinism, in the USSR there was a friendship of peoples, everyone didn't care who was of what nationality, everyone was Soviet people. FYI: Under Imperialism, the colonies (Or as they are now called semi-dependent/dependent economies or countries 2 and 3 of the world) and outskirts of the Imperialist State import most of their resources to the metropolis/center. And the USSR, on the contrary, helped all lagging and underdeveloped countries build a socialist economy. They went there to build power plants, factories, developed infrastructure, and they did all this for free. And when the USSR ceased to exist, these countries were simply owed to the USSR. So the USSR was not an empire, but was the Union of Free Republics. It's like left-wing ideas in Ukrainian nationalism were very common. This is why are Ukrainian nationalists on the streets shouting "Hang Muscovites on a stake!" Apparently they scream from great love. Left-wing ideas cannot be combined with nationalism in principle, they want because the left is in favor of protecting ordinary workers and freeing them from exploitation. And nationalism is an instrument of the bourgeoisie to combat leftist ideas.

I realize that some of the footage used unavoidably makes these orgs frightening; however I think a piece of constructive criticism I should offer is that, in the past, portraying far right orgs as powerful (American History X, Pink Floyd's The Wall, Triumph of the Will, etc) act as effective propaganda for them. They want to appear terrifying, to be shown marching in formation with ominous, droning music as a backdrop, and so on. I understand that it would be challenging to make this video without any footage as a backdrop, but maybe next time a video is made about fascist orgs, you could just display their flags or something? Sorry, I know I'm not offering great solutions here, I just think we should be careful with our portrayals of them. Good video nonetheless.

I agree. I was thinking about this a lot while making the video and I believe there are pros and cons to emphasizing the threat they present. In the end I opted for this approach because A) the far right in Ukraine is powerful enough that I wouldn't really be signal boosting beyond what they already project and B) most of my viewers probably aren't aware of just how serious the situation there is. To a degree, I wanted to convey the urgency and severity of the problem in Ukraine and I wanted it to be a powerful warning sign that reaches beyond that region of the world. All that said, your criticism remains and I think it's more than valid. Dealing with the far right is a delicate matter and I will probably not make another video that is quite this alarmist, in part because of the point you brought up.

when i started studying about the euromaidan, i have to confess that i was kinda scared of Ukrainians lmao which is a very strange thought, because since i started to study Russian, many of them always tried to help me on conversation apps. in the end, i think i was just immature and closed-minded in creating this fear, but that obviously doesn't take away all the Nazi weight that exists in this place. btw, the other day one of their soldiers (14:36) was on my tiktok fy and the girls were "omg hes so handsome" and stuff like that. the people are so brainwhashed, they don't even know who they're "rooting" for, i know that there are good and innocent people in Ukraine, who are dying due to the selfishness of a president and several nations that support him, but this is so tragic. anyway, thank u sm for this video. greetings from Brazil.

This video, for the most part, covers what I’ve heard from actual Ukrainians. I learned a lot from the personal experience of Mark Baltalmai. He did a really good documentary with video of actual events. You can find it if u search Ukrainian Agony. It really humbled me to realize how others had been living. We forget in America, as dysfunctional as it is right now, that in comparison to others we are pretty fortunate.

These Fascistic militias, who comprise a substantial part of the homeguard defense in Ukraine, coming under real fire where the stakes are the existence of their nation's sovereignty, couldn't provide a better opportunity for every far right extremist group in the world to see their proxies over there seizing power by military force-- and being cheered on by the most powerful Democracies on earth in the process. That being a US led NATO, of course. God forbid if these Neo Fascists wind up on the winning side somehow. Imagine them in their convoy of jeeps and pickups rolling down the Boulevards of Kiev...slowly through throngs of gratefully liberated citizens-- girlfriends to grandmothers tossing rose petals at their blistered tires! But even worse if they are forced into some underground resistance fighting-stance to be romanticized in literature and films of the near future. Either way we are looking at a potential new heyday with widespread public support for Fascists not seen since the early days of Italy's Black Shirts and Germany's "Workers Partei." 😆

These far-right forces have been committing genocide against the people of Donbass and have been working with the Ukrainian government to promote racism and far-right nationalism, trying to restrict the Russian language in Ukraine and such. Russia's motivation for invading Ukraine clearly had little to do with defending these victims, since they've been victimized for eight years now. It's simply being used as an additional justification beyond the simple argument of self-defense. However, I don't know why we can't still say it's a good thing that Russia is helping those people in the East, and it's also necessary for Russia's continued existence and self-determination. The whole crisis is a result of the West's plan to weaken and eventually overthrow the Russian government, which is being opposed here. Russia's final goal with this invasion remains to be seen, but I don't know how anyone could not understand the necessity, both from a self-defense and human rights perspective, of Russia to take this military action.

Bloody awful situation, thank you for covering. Here in Serbia we are witnessing almost literally the same thing occurring in some aspects and it's terrifying- we're a country so deeply in the right after the war of the nineties and the subsequent fall of the pro-west Democrats that fascism is barely ever acknowledged as a problem in mainstream discourse, while the left barely exists, with leftist praxis being dangerous in whatever form. War criminals and supporters of the war of the nineties are openly in our parliament or associated with the ruling party. The big difference in our situation is that fascism is much more controlled by the government, with it mostly serving as an aesthetic cover for government-financed hooligans and bands or as a schizophrenic evocation to either justify the actions of the government or divert attention from the governments failings, as is currently happening with the fuss over Ratko Mladic (man responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica). Here, it's deeply crime-infested, but also hyperreal- I doubt most of the fascist leaders deeply believe in their convictions, but only serve to perpetuate the criminal machine. All that said, hyperreal or not, the country is sliding more and more towards the right even though it has a nominally liberal/economically progressive government.

You were almost accurate, but it's simply incorrect to claim that the Far Right is hostile in anyway to the West. Not only have Ukrainian Nazis always been heavily supported by the West as freedom fighters, the idea that the Far Right in Ukraine is some unique, endogenous movement of non-alignment is hilariously wrong, considering that while many Ukrainians have many feelings about "East" vs "West," the vast majority are not Nazis--and the Nazis have been propelled into power by US and EU involvement. Capital within Ukraine is split in terms of interests, but the fascists are entirely a *tool* for the West, one that is used to apply pressure to Russia in an attempt to corner Russia. The Ukrainian conflict began in 2014--around the same time as Maduro's first term in Venezuela. The Syrian Civil War was at its peak, and the Obama administration supported Ukrainian Nazis, ISIS and Al Qaeda, sanctioned Venezuela, and began talks on the nuclear deal with Iran. The main point of the nuclear deal was that it temporarily allowed Iranian oil to flood the oil market. The US then also stepped up its support for the Saudi invasion of Yemen. As this was happening, the US heavily ramped up oil production, and Saudi Arabia decided to intentionally increase oil production as well--shattering the price of oil. By 2015 (when I started driving), the price of oil was down to 1.56 a gallon. US oil production had to be massively subsidized starting in 2015 because the low oil prices made the less profitable methods of drilling that were required to produce that much oil actually unprofitable. Trump later rolled back the Iran deal, most likely because US oil production had risen enough to make Iranian oil unnecessary, or because his attention was more focused on Venezuela by that point, but the Syrian Civil War, Iran Deal, DAPL, Fracking, Ukrainian Euromaidan Coup, and the massive US support for the Saudi genocide in Yemen should best be understood as attempts to isolate and destroy the economies of Russia and Venezuela. It was very successful, and both countries saw their GDPs shrink and their currencies inflate rapidly as a result. It came at the cost of the US sponsoring about 7 years of unprofitable energy startups and fracking, the lives of millions, and the rise of neo-nazi anti-immigrant movements in Europe and, eventually, the US.

This is an old post and I don’t want to get into a whole thing here, but I think your analysis of what happened in Yemen seemed to totally sidestep the political situation in Yemen as well as centuries of Shia Sunni conflict. It reads like a very western centric analysis of what drove that war. The US committed undeniable crimes which they need to be held accounted for but it was not part of some “master plan orchestrated by the west”. It kinda reads like some grey zone plot.

На Украине есть проблема с нацистами, только России сначала стоило бы кучу своих проблем решить, прежде чем в Украину зачем-то лезть

The West could not have defeated the Nazis without the support of the brave Russian Soldiers. You can understand why Russia has deep hate for the Nazis. USSR losses within postwar borders now stand at 26.6 million. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties

You've got some significant errors in your analysis, one of the worst ones was contrasting the "Ukranian establishment" to the "far right". Any Marxist would tell you that the two are not seperate groups, representating different factions of bourgeois rule and power. All these connections were not created but were already present, representing factions of the bourgois, who, frustrated with the incompetence of more liberal sections of their own class, have turned to funding and representing these groups as a form of resisting Russian imperialism as well as further resisting attempts by American imperialists to dominate following the 2014 riots. When the former comes into crisis, the latter is its inevitable result. The two are not different groups, and the way you base your analysis on this assumption devalues the work.
