And about your surprise/disbelief to see cyclists on the road in such hot weather, it is actually not a serious issue for any Asian Cyclist as we are acclimatised and long as we are cycling, the on-coming wind, does cool us! Thank you for raising your cap as a salutation to our cyclists! Last year, i hosted a 19yrs old UK cyclist who cycled south from Thailand to Singapore and at one stage,he stopped over for 3 days in Kampar,( my residence).

Yep. I'm from Europe but have lived here 27 years so completely acclimated and have no problem cycling etc here. I can't help but snicker as I watch visiting farangs sweating buckets in Thailand even during the cooler months (except in higher elevations in northern Thailand, which can be very cool Dec through Feb; although these same areas tend to be beastly hot in March and April).

Tsunami, Khao Lak, washed up Thai navy patrol boat, it was the biggest event in recent times on the coast just north of Phuket, many people sadly lost their lives, many many resorts were totally destroyed, the patrols boat ended up several kms inland and now has been made into a memorial.

Those little temple like shrines outside most places are "spirit shrines" for people who have passed away, they put offerings on them , usually coloured fanta type drinks and incense sticks, chumphon isn't the most picturesque town, but the coast and beaches around it are nice and quiet , i stay at a place called "38DeeSea" its at a place north of chumphon town called Saphli,.I love the beuty of some of the "off piste" stops en route, place to yourselves usually to, enjoy,...

Really enjoying your road trip and travel's in Thailand. Lived here 20 yrs but still lots places I've not visited yet. So nice seeing your pleasant experiences in Thailand. The "temples' you see outside people houses are actually not religious. They are "spirit houses" paying respect to the lands ancestors. You see them everywhere in Thailand, except in Muslims homes. You will see them in Bangkok too outside shopping mall and office buildings. I'm surprised you didn't pass through more military / police checkpoints so close to the Myanmar border. You will see many up north when you head to Chiang Mai. Looking forward to next weeks adventures. Hopefully Marianne, will be then ready for the crazy and mad Bangkok traffic !!

Hi both, what a great vlog, I'm really enjoying your journey. We have mutual friends in the UK, BG, and AG from Watford, who put me onto you. Those 'little houses' you see outside a lot (but not all) of Thai houses and buildings are called 'Spirit Houses'. You see them all over Thailand outside houses, apartment blocks, factories, companies, and government buildings amongst others. They are shrines and play the role of protecting the houses, dwellings, buildings, and land while providing a sense of security to the residents. People will replenish the offerings usually each day with fresh food and drinks. I live on the outskirts of Bangkok and you certainly have 'an experience' ahead of you when you get here! The motorbikes here are like angry wasps, zipping in and out of the traffic (when it moves that is!). It's bad enough driving a car here, I don't envy Marianne driving Trudy!

The purple one was made of sweet potato and that is why they made it easy by calling it a potato ball. The sweet crunchy one is actually flour mixed with sugar and coconut milk. Enjoy Thailand and have a safe drive.

I think you'll recognise a lot of songs in today's chart, as some of them seem to be inspired by Van Lifers : @14 is Unwritten (Natasha Bed-In(g)-Field), @16 is Murder On The Dancefloor (Sofa Ellis-Bextor), @46 is Fast Car ((T)Racey Chapman), and @90 is Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac). Not to mention Bob Marley with Could You Be Loved and Three Little Birds at 51 and 56, and Mr. Brightside (The Killers) @71, Iris (The Goo Goo Dolls) @ 91 and finally who could forget - though most have tried - Baby Shark @64!...…Good job you weren't here Last Christmas because that was at No.1, along with every other Christmas record ever released, you'd thought you'd globetrotted your way back in time!

Lovely to see your videos of your travels in Thailand. I spent many years in northeast Thailand and really miss the culture the people and the food. Stay safe and try and visit udon thani on the border with Laos. 🇬🇧❤️

There’s around 44,000 temples in Thailand and the small shrines you see in people’s gardens are called Spirit Houses out of respect for residents of the house who passed away, usually family members, often offerings of food and drinks are seen on the Spirit House.

I like having holidays in Hua Hin but for for me it involves driving around Bangkok. Last time I took a wrong turn and went into the centre of Bangkok. Couldn't find a way out so ended up asking a taxi to lead us to a toll booth. Never again. Had a great holiday on Koh Samet in December. A lot less stressful drive.
