Never pay any money or summons to on-site policemen. All summons must be paid to the police station OR nowadays, you can pay through online. Even if you pay early at the police station, you can get a discount. You are not supposed to pay RM300. That policeman is literally asking for a bribe. He should not ask for any money! I am so sorry you need to go through that situation! Such a disgrace Policeman... [context] Our LAW does not permit any policeman to take money from any summons they issued... And that policeman does not issue any paper!! That means he is asking for a bribe in broad daylight!! Summons must come with paper. Then they need to bring the paper to the police station (for an early payment discount) OR as I said, they can pay it ONLINE. No policeman can receive any cash or money from the summons they issued.

Kebiasaan polisi di malasia dari dulu... kebanyakan polisi Malasia gak Cukup makan dari gaji taulah gaji polisi di malasia, jadi terpaksa melakukan cara demikian. Kemarin saja polisi Malasia viral minta uang sama Bangla Rohingya di kuala lumpur mini Dhakka sebesar 300 ringgit per hari dikutip supaya bebas Berjualan orang Rohingya Bangla aman. Pelancong Asing pun gak aman di malasia disebabkan polisi Malasia suka memalak pelancong cari kesalahan padahal tidak salah asal sudah ada dokumen lengkap dan izin. Tapi itulah kebiasaan polisi di malasia cari makan pinggir jalan raya selain daripada gaji. Alasannya tak cukup buat anak bini di rumah. Harap kuasa tertinggi pdrm mendengar keluhan anak buahnya di lapangan naikkan gaji sedikit kenapa.. udah mau hari raya ini. 😊..

PDRM should do something about this sitiation. Where is the receipt.

They saw the foreign number plate and thought oh yes easy cash , no license or insurance check , no receipt for the payment , crazy .

As Malaysian, I'll let you all know that not only traffics police are corrupt like that, many more of those men in uniforms are corrupt like that. Lorry / truck drivers are their main targets. Some of those drivers have to save some of their salary for occasions like this. One lorry driver told me that almost 1/4 of his salary will be given to those men in uniforms in a month in a series of stops like this. THEY will threat to give summons to the lorry driver with multiple road/vehicle offenses or THEY clear all of those simply with just hundreds of MYR. Sometime THEY came alone. Sometime THEY will come in a group of 3-4 people in THEIR OFFICIAL SUV. (Sometime with their superior : sergeant of higher) This is sad, really.

They recorded using 360 camera, which the look is different from ordinary camera or dashcam, and this officer did not know how 360 camera looks like, outdated officer. The camera is on the centre of dashboard, not on the windscreen

The lorry that flash frantically is to warn you that there are traffic police or speed cameras operating nearby. Stick to your speed limit and if you are 100% sure you didn't drive past the speed limit, stand your ground and don't be intimidated by the traffic police. They will eventually give up because they do not have the evidence.

Thank you for posting it. You did it right by posting it. We Malaysian HATE coffee money police. I admit there's always 2 side in a story but doing a wrong thing in a uniform is just shameful. It is a bribe. By seeing he even radio-ing to his friend means they have been doing it a lot of time.

Good thing was he charged the standard market price of RM100😂😂😂😂

Way too expensive. In Thailand you would only get a 500 Baht fine and Thailand is only slightly less developed than Malaysia.

You are lucky that Malaysia now having good and honest government, if it was the last few governments, you might get yourself into deeper problem for posting video on traffic police’s corruption act.

Spot on.. can't agree more. Previous governments were ridiculous.

If a car coming from the opposite direction is flashing their highlights, they are warning the oncomers that there is a traffic roadblock/ check in front.

Never pay to police directly. That money will go into their pockets for sure. Drive safe!. You can do police report if you got his name and full face.

Awesome video as always Chris and Marianne. That semi truck flashing it's headlights at y'all was trying to worn you about a speed trap those police were just looking for a bribe. Malaysia is such a friendly country but ever barrel has a few bad apples. Thanks for letting us ride along with y'all on y'all's journey around the world.

I dont think you pay the actual summon. The RM100 u paid him is somewhat a 'bribe" or 'coffee money'! In practice, there's no such thing as paying cash on-the-road/on-site. The norm of paying traffic fine is either go direct to Traffic Police station or pay online. This kind of things do happen here and always becareful when driving and monitor your speed.

If you've noticed anything fishy with the police, could you share the footage with me? I'd need the officer's name and code. Don't worry if you don't have that, just tell me the date, area, and road. I'll take it from there and report it to the authorities (SPRM，JPJ and PDRM). Thanks a bunch, and I'm sorry you had to deal with this! In a perfect world you are right, go to the Police station and pay the fine and report the officer offering a discount to pay in person. In the real world, most foreigners (who don’t know the local culture or area) will prefer to pay 1/3rd of the fine be on their way and not accuse a Policeman of corruption (not until they are out of the country for sure).

Reminds of what happened to "itchy Boots" while driving her motorcycle through Nigeria in her channel. The police man asked her for money at a check point. A few weeks later they got publicly shamed and dismissed from the police force since it went viral/disgraced their police force/country internationally. Their dissmisal video is on KZread too. I hope these police officers hopefully get what they do deserve out there in Malaysia for conducting illegal stuff. Thanks for trying to do the right thing & stop corruption JackyThamGK. 😊

If the police said they're going to issue a speeding ticket just take the ticket, you don't have to go to the police station, you can pay it online later.

Typically they want quick cash, we call those 'Coffee Money'. Sorry to say that those are the most unprofessional practices from them. They could say anything they want and you ended up with RM100 bribery or RM300 'unreasonable' summon. :(
