UK net migration hits record high

Despite saying that net migration numbers in 2022 were "too high", Rishi Sunak today insisted that he hadn't lost control of the immigration system.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
But his words didn't mollify some of his backbenchers who said the situation was unsustainable, while Labour described the government's approach as chaotic.

In Germany, we have a similar discussion, but we think that skilled workers prefer the UK over Germany due to the language barrier. Not many speak German, but almost everyone knows at least a bit of English. English speaking countries might not realize it, but this gives their economies a big advantage since they don't have to train their workforce in a foreign language. They save a lot of time, money, and years of study that others have to go through. People can start using their skills right away from day one.

I am a student in Germany came from a non-EU country. Zum Glück I am a Uni student with a high intellect at learning things. It took me first 3 years to learn the course, learn B2 level language, getting to know the system only could start once I knew the language well. You are right, language barrier is there. But I like Germany. Germans are good people and I like them. I like Germany calling my second home.

Also, the current UK government is a joke, but regardless they can't police the behavior of certain parts of the population. Only time can change such outdated attitudes. Fortunately, younger people are generally less prejudiced and the UK won't be rejoining the EU anytime soon either, so it's a waiting game, but if they're able to relocate to somewhere more welcoming, then best of luck to them!

But its not like we can just fly over and look for work. New Zealand used to be like the old UK, but now also requires a very strict and prohibitive expensive visa for us to visit. Unless you can arrange a work visa prior. At them moment your average South African goes to Thailand or Vietnam for work, just to find a job as we've got the wrong skin colour 30 years after apartheid. Also, now with our banks being downgraded on a grey list, international banks don't want to work with us anymore, refuse to open new bank accounts, or its a lot harder. No-one will understand this if they haven't experienced this themselves here. A few weeks ago we were banned as a white person to enter our university for a week, the outside media is silent on this and don't care if they set a person's baby on fire. Do know that we have Indian and Brown people here and they also experience racism towards work, but white man is last and sometimes not allowed to work or get retrenched.@@mistermood4164

Your imaginary, psychotic vision of the nation's past is something that never existed. Britain's postwar social contract was a blatant failure from the very get-go and the laughing stock of Europe so nothing changed there. And British people have been dying of starvation since Victorian times, something that was even more pronounced in the colonies we looted and subjugated. I mean we could have just done things the proper way like Spain and Germany, but as always that English bigotry and exceptionalism got in the way (Our English incompetence, none of that foreign success muck, we just won the war Sauerkrauts). Soros declaring that "all Brits must die" when we tried to join the Eurozone and Schengen agreement led to black Wednesday and inevitably the 2016 referendum result. We attempted to be like all the other EU countries, with access to the common currency and open borders, yet we were not allowed to exist. Soros is a rich and powerful man. Whatever he wants he gets, and as we have learned there is no point in confronting such people. Should've made a European-style public health system with government insurance and ombudsman, because no other country was stupid enough to think the NHS idea could work and it shows.

If they have children they will be taking money for them. They pay zero in and take 100%out They have to see a doctor, dentist and use the NHS, so those sectors have to employ more people for the demand. So what do they do? The truth is migration won't go down because there's too much money in it for the rich and powerful in this country, and also with the current state of politics, no one is willing to base policy on empirical evidence and say the hard truths that will be unpopular. For them the priority is themselves, and the next election; they base their campaigns on buzzwords rather than with anything of any substance. For those 'progressives' who think that to even question migration is tantamount to some kind of bigotry, I'd ask them why they think the Tories have continued to exponentially increase both migration and net migration, well beyond levels that Tony Blair could have ever dreamed of? Because an endless supply of cheap labour stagnates wages, and puts the power with the employers, NOT the working classes. There is no need to improve working conditions when employers know there will be thousands more willing to take the place of that employee who is fed up with being on minimum wage and is demanding a rise. Moreover, it inorganically produces a never ending high demand for housing, which guarantees that property prices continue to rise. It staggers me the number of young people who complain about not being able to afford a house yet will ignorantly call for mass migration (or at least denounce those who critique the current policy). There is no baby boom in this country - in fact - the birth rate has been in decline for years, and this declining birth rate has been below replacement rate since the mid seventies. The vast majority of the demand for housing is due to mass migration (and increasing illegal migration) - it is a simple supply and demand equation. Stop the immigration and with current [V.high] building rates, within a few years there will be a surplus of housing, which will mean cheaper housing and rent. Around 25% of Tory donors are in property management, and of course many of the members have their money tied up in property, as does the country. It is extremely risky having lots of money tied up in non-productive assets, particularly for foreign investment in property - it’s not healthy. This ignores all the other important cultural aspects to immigration too. You would have thought Cov-19 had highlighted the need for on-shoring, and that being overly reliant on external resources puts your country, and the welfare of its citizens at risk. This is true for energy, food… and also people! If the only way we try to ‘grow’ the economy is through mass migration, then sh*t is going to hit the fan when, when this country becomes less desirable. How will we then fill the gaps? Without the infrastructure, policy and skill-sets to train up our own people we will be doomed. There are also compounding issues here; more housing, and support infrastructure (energy, NHS, food, water/waste, public transport etc.) inevitably means that land, and often agricultural land is sold off to developers. This creates a condition where we are even less able to produce the goods that we need, with a higher demand. In my county of Sussex, many housing developments have had to be paused because of the amount of water-use was drying up local nature reserves in the area. Green belt areas are increasingly being built on….. How is this sustainable in any way? And no, I'm not ‘against’ immigration. That is a dumb statement. Just like I'm not for or against agriculture, or healthcare. Immigration policies can either be net-positive, or net-negative depending on the context. A policy of high migration can be net positive for one country; the same policy being net-negative for another nation. It all depends on what’s happening in the country at the time, requirements/needs, history, etc. Of course, even within a policy of high migration, there are good and bad implementation strategies. Whatever we do, we NEED a more robust system, such that we know exactly, for now, what skill-sets and resources we need, and turn away any that don’t meet the requirement, and not take more than we need. Canada and Australia have a much stricter system and it is completely fair. An open policy makes it worse for all involved - it reduces the level of care available and opportunities for those entering too! Illegal migration needs tackling too; even more so if we respect those legal migrants who have worked hard and wish to prosper here.

It reduced EU immigration quite drastically. And is severed us from any future shared refugee policy that the EU was quite desperate to foist upon us at the time because of Merkel's ethno-masochistic tendencies. We haven't forgotten how they demonized Hungary and Poland for daring to police their borders. Its not Nigel Farage's fault that the Tories betrayed the vote, and used it as an opportunity to open the floodgates even wider in service of their corporate, landowning, property developing, profit driven interests.

If people here in UK were mature enough to take care of their parents or even any older generation they wouldn’t have to deal with this immigration crisis. The fact is that UK has massive labour shortage, teacher shortage, rising inflation and the govt blames it on immigrants who are coming here to work legally without harming anyone. They give asylum to those who have criminal records, who want to do the wrong things but ppl who genuinely want to work they are called criminals. Remember one thing if immigration stops in UK then govt is screwed because the locals don’t want to work 12hr daily shift

And if you want to know why rents are so high you’re better off looking at the Tory’s blocking house building for the past 13 years and millionaires using their ever growing fortunes to speculate on the housing market. And maybe the draconian anti trade Union laws in this country might have something to do with our poverty wages. After all wages were increasing in line with productivity until Margret thatcher came along, and since then all that extra money has gone to shareholders instead and we’ve been hung out to dry. You are right that no one should be happy about the outcomes of Tory policies intended to enrich themselves and the super rich they represent. But none of it has anything to do with migrants

On a small island there is only a certain amount of room for homes and infrastructure. Surely there must be a maximum number of people that can be accommodated responsibly and comfortably regardless of where they are from. I could see over crowing coming and left for Australia

It is good and thoughtful of you to make room for Mr Bongo and his family from India.

Regardless of political party, many in the UK have lost faith that the government and the civil service will stop the uncontrolled legal migration - note that is legal, the side of migration that we most have control over. The effects of uncontrolled migration are seen in: - increase of people on benefits. See the governments data of unemployment by ethnicity - despite the image fed to us, white British have the lowest unemployment rate compared to all other ethnicities. - artificially lowering the minimum wage due to an abundance of cheap imported labour. We have parts of the indigenous population that rely heavily on low paid low skilled jobs, and they are having to compete with people who are used to earning below the poverty level of Africa, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East etc - increase in house prices and rental prices - more building on our protected Green Belt land due to the housing pressure - more building on existing buildings and causing social tension as people live cheek by jowl. Legislation has been relaxed to encourage this in building. The UK already has some of the smallest homes, compared to Europe. - increase in violence and crime. There is a general increase, plus some which is specific to certain ethnicities. Knife (and machete) crime is more frequent, however whilst it captures the headlines, many other forms of crime, not typical to the indigenous population are flourishing. The Asian (Indian subcontinent) grooming gangs rap_ing/assaulting/drugging white children. - increased demand for extra policing, in the tens of thousands of extra officers required (look at the different police force's online wanted posters, there is a disproportionately higher number of foreign criminals, especially as a proportion of the population) - increased demand for prison officers, and prison buildings (look at the prison population, where there is again a disproportionately higher number of foreign criminals, especially as a proportion of the population). We are already releasing criminals early, and not imprisoning others, due to a lack of prison places! And the increase in taxes to pay for these. - increased demand on the judiciary. Our courts are blocked with massive queues, and everything is done to delay cases going to the CPS or going to court. We have a lack of staff and buildings. Very serious cases are rarely reaching the CPS or courts, or take years to go through the system. This causes a lack of justice, an increased risk to the population as criminals continue to live amongst us, and it encourages crime (justice needs to be swift to act as a deterrent). - the loss of our capital city London. It is now predominantly populated by people who self identify as belonging to an ethnic minority. You rarely hear English spoken! This will also impact tourism - a quarter of a million people work in the tourism sector in London alone. London has the head offices of many top companies, the seat of many scientific and educational organisations, and the main offices of many civil servants - inevitably they will end up recruiting from this immigrant population, that does not have the interests of this country first in their hearts. People with fake qualifications, and with criminal backgrounds uncheckable in the UK, will end up in positions of power. - greater difficulty in seeing a healthcare professional, be it a GP, Consultant, or dentist - hospitals frequently declaring emergencies as their A&E queues of ambulances with patients stuck in them grow longer. Even hospitals, in areas with a vast majority of white British population, if you go to the A&E it will be full of people from the middle east, Indian subcontinent, and Africa. Often you won't hear English being spoken! - increased burden of disabled children, on healthcare, special education needs, and benefits (both for disability, and for the unemployed parents that stay at home caring for their disabled children), unnecessarily caused by cousin marriage, from people from the Indian subcontinent - lack of school and university places. Pressures to change what is being taught, to suit a minority religious population - the enormous congestion on all our roads. Even country lanes, which were once peaceful, have now become rat runs - religious and social tension, especially from ethnicities that are not interested in integrating - increased suffering of female children subjected to FGM and child marriage - increased distortion of UK elections, as women from the Indian subcontinent lose their vote to their husbands MORAL QUESTION - is it morally right to import cheap labour to be exploited? And what about those skilled migrants, eg nurses and doctors, that are actually needed in their own country. Is it morally right for the UK to benefit from poorer countries paying to educate and train skilled workers? MENTAL HEALTH BURDEN The effects of a lot of the above pressures, are seen in a rapid increase in mental health problems across all ages, but especially in the young working adults, adults who should if anything, be the most resilient of society. FINANCIAL BURDEN At Budget time in March 2024, the UK National Debt is estimated to be £2.70 trillion! BIRTH RATE FALSE THEORY Some people believe in the theory, that we need to import people because of our lower birth rate, and that there is certain work that we don't want to do. This ignores the fact that we need to increase productivity, especially with automation/robotics/AI (Artificial Intelligence), because other countries will certainly be investing in this, and all of these reduce job vacancies. Our population might not apply for very low paid jobs, eg picking fruit, or nursing the elderly, but that is because the rates of pay are ridiculously low. Pay a fair wage in an economy that doesn't tilt the table by importing cheap labour! Any organisation or business, who's business model relies on the importation of cheap labour, should not continue, and needs to close. WHAT CAY YOU DO? Please watch, action, and share this KZread video, from the historian S Webb: A Parliamentary petition to suspend immigration to Britain for five years Regardless of if you think this will give the results that we need, it is important for people to see, that there are many others who share their concerns, and this is one very simple and quick way to do it. Many thanks, and don't forget to share👍
