No need to be right next to the cargo when you make the call through the comms menu. Just fly to the smoke. It will go away once you fly over it. The worst thing you can do is fly looking at the eternal cargo indicator. You want to hover in place over the cargo and then just glance at the indicator, then make your correction. Glance again, then correct. When hovering a helicopter, you want to always be looking at least 50 to 100 ft in front of the aircraft. If you start referencing objects closer (or the indicator), you'll find you're going to start over correcting. You also don't have to press the hook button when you're in position. You can press it early, and then just focus on maintaining position over the cargo. I personally like to slowly drift forward over the cargo. If I start with the cargo in view and in line with a reference beyond the cargo, all I have to do is slowly fly toward that reference until I'm hooked, making sure I keep any lateral movement under control.

Think the unpopular answer there, assuming you can "drifty-hover" already, is practice. Nothing much to it, other than getting the muscle memory built up for what the bird is going to do next, and reacting to it in the right amount of stick movement before it starts to do it. Like balancing something on the palm of your hand.

Try holding a string with something heavy tied to it. Move your hand then stop. It'll swing even if you are "steady". So it is not unrealistic.

Just imagine if they ever get a CH53E into the game.....16 tons of cargo in a single external lift..... And as for hooking up while hovering, that was a big part of my job description in the Corps. External lifts are an adrenaline rush when you're underneath something the size of a small house throwing down 175mph downwash and a swinging hook you have to ground out and catch because it's got about 150k volts of static electricity in it.

I really enjoyed playing Take On Helicopters from Bohemia Interactive, I think I need to get another helo in DCS to reacquaint myself with them. Currently can’t decide between the Gazelle, the Hip or the Huey. I have the Ka-50 but that’s so automated it hardly feels like a helicopter! Your struggles in this video reminded me a lot of when I first started playing ToH!

If you want something that doesn't feel automated get the Huey.

It’s pretty realistic, it’s very hard in a real helicopter to keep the load steady without forward momentum.

Numero Uno, Happy Holidays to All!!!

Small precision that can saves time, to hook a cargo you press and HOLD the hook button until hooked. It took me an hour 1 week ago because I thought I was just supposed to press and release the hook button ^^. Nice vid as always guys ^^. And I love when you say "we had few desastrous tries" when just a moment before we can see a burnt Huey on the ground :D.

You don't even have to hold it. You can just press it once to open the hook and then you're all set.

All depends on the mission. You will find a fair few popular multiplayer servers where you can haul vehicles such as tanks or AAA and even build entire SAM sites with multiple crates. IIRC on blueflag you can carry repair kits and more to airfields. So in short: Yes. You can haul whatever your mission maker sees fit.

@@cmibm6022 If we can find people willing to do it. Frankly put a lot of people regard this as a rather tedious task. Certainly not as exciting as killing stuff. And I think latency also makes it a bit of a pain as I believe that it and even more so little lagspikes can screw you over (ripping the line and such).

@@Stahlwollvieh Indeed hauling crates is not a wonderful task. But the result can be amazing. Your base is under attack, you arrive and drop a repair crate that repairs your air base's air defences and it fires on the ennemy. You transport 5 crates to create a patriot site and thanks to you, some sky area is now safe for your teammates up there. Or you can drop a JTAC making CAS so much easy. I found it rewarding in a way

@@Z4ng3tsu67 Yeah I don't doubt that in the slightest. You will need reasonable teamwork to make use of that though, next to a patient helo pilot.

How do I make AI cargo transportation. When I use transport task in editor. AI hooks cargo and reach trigger zone but they don't unhook cargo once they reach unload zone they just keep hovering

can't use native cargo transport anymore, crashes DCS

what about WATER?? pls n thx

I have such a hard time with the load swinging!. I think its way too sensitive.

You have to add them in the mission editor. There is also this campaign where it looks like you have to do some cargo stuff. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooisp7xsYJXAqJs.html

trimming does NOT trim rudder.

in the huey, the pedals do not have any springs so they are always "trimmed" (so im told)
