Ugly Nightstand Cabinet Transformed into a...Wine Minibar!? - Custom Restoration
In this video, I transformed a damaged vintage 1969 nightstand cabinet into a beautiful minibar.
More about the restoration/transformation process:
This piece was on the patio of the house I recently moved into. The owner told me I could do whatever I wanted, so I got creative and turned it into something useful, specifically a vintage wine minibar. This video is not a regular restoration project, by the book, like I usually do on this channel; I usually restore items keeping in mind how they looked in the past and preserving their purpose, but not this time! I took the liberty of transforming it precisely as I envisioned it and made decisions on this project while working on it, for example, recycling the damaged top part and turning it into a bottle holder. It looks rustic and exciting to me. I hope you treat this video as something other than a furniture restoration tutorial because it's not. It is a custom project where I allowed myself not to follow specific rules and let my creativity run wild.
I hope you like my idea and that it inspires you! You may have a similar nightstand cabinet sitting abandoned somewhere and need help figuring out what to do with it.
This piece of furniture was made in a small town in Poland in September 1969.
The restoration/transformation process was uneventful but painstaking. Many parts were damaged due to water and time, especially the top and door. I had to replace them entirely. I also replaced many pieces of the cracked and worn veneer with new, similar colors, but not 100%, for a meaningful and unique effect.
I cleaned the wood and then dressed it with the new veneer. Then I made the pieces that needed to be replaced, and on the door and drawer fronts, I etched wine culture motifs. For this process, I used a CNC from TwoTrees; here's a link if you want to learn more: www.twotrees3d.online/product...
I cleaned up the rusted parts with a 2000-watt laser. It was satisfactory, and everything went faster than with the traditional sandblaster. If you want to learn more about this machine: www.sfxlyxc.com/?aff=2198
I also wanted to keep a vintage vibe, and I succeeded.
This piece of furniture was made in a small town in Poland in September 1969.
I hope you enjoy this custom restoration project! I enjoyed working on it and am thrilled with how it turned out; it will be a permanent fixture in my living room!
PS: I don't expect the result to be to everyone's taste as long as we all have different tastes. I like how it turned out and am very proud of the work that went into it. Believe it or not, I have worked on this piece for almost two weeks, every day!
Please ask me if you have any questions about what I used and why! I answer them all!
Cheers! Johnny.

Hi, folks! This time you'll see me doing something a little different! This is a custom project. An idea popped into my head one evening, and I decided to implement it. I got exactly what I envisioned and am thrilled with the result. I hope you like my idea and the repurpose of this damaged nightstand! I hope it will inspire you! Especially if you are a wine lover like me! PS: Please read the description; you will understand more about this project! Feel free to ask anything; I'm always responding to your comments! Cheers! 🍷🍷🍷

I'm trying to imagine what it was like to work in a Polish furniture factory in 1969. Apparently, they nailed things together instead of using joinery, or glue, or screws. If they're alive, I bet those workers are deaf from all of the hammering. You put a lot of effort into making this nightstand a better, stronger, and more beautiful object than the original. Good work.

Esta quedando muy bien este mini bar pero si me permite darle un consejo, la copa que ha dibujado yo creo quel perfil de la copa por la parte alta también tendría que ser perfilada.Solo es un consejo
Personally, I'd much rather have a salvaged/repurposed piece like this than anything new. It has a history and now has a new life.

Just wonderful. I did similar work with the old sideboard, which was in even worse condition. Unfortunately, such a cool workshop as yours remains only in my dreams. That's why it took me a month, and of course the quality of the work turned out to be somewhat lower, although I and the customer are satisfied with the result.

Pretty cool!! I've also never seen a laser cleaner either - how bizarre! But I love nothing better than re-using the stuff we already have. The art of recycling used to be making things to last AND repairing them as you go, NOT throwing things in the dump everytime you see something new on the shelf.
I like Upcycling. Sometimes it is much better, to give an old object a new function. So you can create a new unique thing with an own history. The result is excelent, like ever.👍👍👍

Клей под шпон лучше наносить не маленькой кисточкой а небольшим валиком, распределение клея будет равномерным.
I wish the grape leaves had each pointed to the outer edge of the drawer but that's a minor thing with how cool this is.
@rustyshadesrestoration

Glad you like it! That was my mistake. I prepared two designs, one with a smaller distance between leaves pointing to the outer edge and one with the correct distance between them. Still, unfortunately, I forgot to turn one of them and was too late when I realised the machine was engraving already, and I didn't have the power to start all over again. If I have to make it for someone else, I will, but this piece will serve in my home, so it doesn't bother me that much.

If it weren't for the factory labels on the back, I would have guessed that if was made in a middle school wood shop class. Heavy and crappy wood that is too thick for such a small piece. Very nice salvage work that compliments the design much more than as a night stand. Salud! Several years ago I found a trashed mechanical record player. Too far gone to restore it to a phonograph, I too converted it into a liquor cabinet.
