UCR UPDATE: Turning Back Time - 1989 Toyota Corona 2.0GLi - Paintwork DONE!! | EvoMalaysia.com
WOOHOO!! Ah Kei delivers yet again! Yes folks, he's definitely turned back the clock to 1989 with his latest efforts on the 1989 Toyota Corona "Rockin' Rona" 2.0 GLi, I've got Duran Duran & Suzanne Vega playing in my head right now...
What an amazing effort on his part, insofar as the bodywork & paint is concerned, I'm truly impressed. To be honest, the original 31-year old paint had patina'd so much, I didn't really know the true colour of the car, and if it wasn't for the inner door sills, I'd still not know for sure.
He also gave the wheel covers a once over, and removed the rubber body-lining, refurbished them and stuck them back on. Equally impressive was just how well he re-aligned the front and rear bumpers, quite amazing actually. I'm really happy with the way this car has turned out, wow :)

woah! that is a huge difference, the Rockin' Rona' is looking really beautiful! just like brand new, awesome work has been done. Really shiny now! the gen 2 vios wheel covers kind of suit and looks very clean

These were known as a Carina II here in the UK. Toyota had some crazy good build quality back then. My dad had one of these and covered 250k miles!

Mine is a 1990 model. I'm restoring one now. Had it for 5 years. The owner before me smoked inside it with the windows closed for 25 years. The smell didn't go away so I had to replace the whole interior and carpet to get rid of the smell. 😂

In 1992 drove the 1991 Corona 2.0 GLI manual.. was very impressed with the feel and quality. Fuel Injected Twin Cam 3S-FE engine was responsive and smooth. Only lost to the accord on the sheer size.

And that's the reason umw decided to bring in the Camry instead of the new Corona replacement. And Camry was best selling D segment car from year 2000 which it enjoyed for about 10 years.

I honestly think the wheels absolutely looked period correct. Especially with the new paint and lacquer. Can be a pretty good sleeper car too🤭. Manual too, never driven a d-segment manual car yet...

She looks beautiful. Does the Rona's rear seats come with seat belts? Can't recall if its all lap belts, or the 2x 3point with 1 lap belt type.

That paint job is great! Its pretty amazing with the resources you have, actually now it looks a like a brand new car, i want my car to be made in to that condition too. Here no spare parts, mechanics resources for these golden JDMs. And i wonder why we got analog speedometers and 3 spoke steering wheels while you have the 5 spoke and digital meter. Is that meter available in your country?
