U2 - You’re The Best Thing About Me (Official Video)
Музыка
The official music video for You're The Best Thing About Me by U2.
The video, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, sees the members of U2 revelling in the sights and sounds of New York City, where as a young Dublin band they played their first U.S. club gig in December 1980 beginning a love affair with the city which has endured for almost 40 years. Shot in 2017 while the band were on tour and featuring U2 in performance, the video is a fitting backdrop for You’re The Best Thing About Me - Bono’s love letter to his wife Ali - and serves as a visual tapestry of tribute to New York and a serenade to the city’s iconic symbols of American compassion and liberty.

Lyrics:
When you look so good
The pain in your face doesn't show
When you look so good
and baby you don't even know
When the world is ours
But the world is not your kind of thing
Full of shooting stars
Brighter as they're vanishing
Oh you've seen enough to know it's children who teach
You're still free enough to wake up on a bed or a beach.
You're the best thing about me
The best thing that ever happened a boy
You're the best thing about me
I'm the kind of trouble that you enjoy
You're the best thing about me
The best things are easy to destroy
You're the best thing about me
The best thing about me
I've been crying out
How bad can a good time be
Shooting off my mouth
That's another great thing about me
I have everything but I feel like nothing at all
There's no risky thing for a man who's determined to fall
You're the best thing about me
The best thing that ever happened a boy
You're the best thing about me
I'm the kind of trouble that you enjoy
You're the best thing about me
The best things are easy to destroy
You're the best thing about me
Why am I
Why am I walking away
Why am I walking away?
I can see it all so clearly
I can see what you can't see
I can see you love her loudly
When she needs you quietly
You're the best thing about me
The best things are easy to destroy
You're the best thing about me
Why am I
Why am I walking away (walking away)
Why am I walking away?

Larry has to be the most focused drumer in rock and roll. No showboating or headbanging, his playing speaks for itself.
This is one of their best songs ever created. Brings me to tears of joy listening to this. ❤

And the Edge's voice
It has been 40 years since Larry's flyer, and they are still together. Sticking together thru the good and not so good times. Continuously morphing their style and still being revelant for decades, defiant when critics said they were done. Making a difference in this world by bringing awareness to countless of issues. Keep going, you boys from Dublin, don't you ever change!

In fact it is quite ordinary, lacks originality, and contributes little creativeness -in both vocals and songwriting, which is essentially prozac laced horseshit. I've been a fan since Joshua tree and at first this song didn't resonate with me, but by the 5th listen I slowly fell into the beauty of this songs apparent simplicity. From an attempt at a top 40 hit in the "sunset" of their career to becoming one of their most joyful songs since October era U2, the fact that almost 40 years into their career they can still make me feel " the best thing about them" is keeping it real 4 decades in.

They used to have a very working class feel with their first several albums, singing about the hardships of the common people, remember? From hard living in Ireland, war, to MLK, mining towns, being lost in life, greed, missing children, etc. They had a very pessimistic working class view of the world that connected with a lot of people. But since the time of Achtung Baby they changed to a completely optimistic view and never turned back. It just doesn't have the same soul or connection.

I was worried before watching this. What if they will now try to sound like the sellouts in the charts? But they didn't, they still sing what they feel. What I like the most is that they actually changed while still keeping the spirit. After all, I have heard 100 traditional u2 songs, it's time for something different! Keep it up, I like it that way!!! :)))

I remember when they were getting big in the USA in the 1980s. "New Year's Day" seemed like it was such a massive single, it really paved the way for the super-big Joshua Tree album. Personally, I think their most interesting record was Achtung, Baby, because of the atmosphere, brilliant lyrics and melodies. But I don't think there's a "bad" U2 album, not today!

Achtung was excellent. Zooropa was issuing some warning signs, despite some good tracks. Pop was unmitigated rubbish. All that you can’t leave behind was decent. Thereafter they began an immediate and tireless plumbing the depths of mediocrity. They have not written anything worth listening to in twenty years. This particular song sounds like it was written during a rushed lunch before it was due. I actually do not understand why people still listen to U2’s newer stuff.
