This song can be taken in a few ways but the original meaning behind it was Bono wrote it from his own perspective. He was a world famous rockstar with temptations coming from everywhere, women drugs etc. but he was also a family man , he was married. How do you be a family man in the biggest band in the world ? He couldn’t live without being in a band but also couldn’t live with it because like I said being a family man. Bono has been married 40 years this year which is a testament to the person he is . Most people in normal walks of life don’t last that long in marriage. Imagine being a world famous rockstar still with your childhood sweetheart. He is in a league of his own Genius song , and U2’s first number 1 single in America . You have to do where the streets have no name from the same album the Joshua tree . One of their heavier songs is bullet the blue sky off the same record.

Bono is together with his high school sweetheart pretty much from the beginning of the band, they celebrated already their 40 wedding anniversary and got 4 kids. How amazing is that! The band is together since September 1976, still all 4 original members. The band started playing in a garage, after Larry Mullen Junior, the drummer, put up a note on the school board looking for members. What a amazing story, I hope one day they make a U2 movie about their story. I can’t afford to pay for a subscription, but you will probably find on any u2 album something that you like. This band grew up, and so did their music. I would suggest to check the order how albums got released and listen to the most watched song on that album. But for me personally, I love them all, they’re all unique in their own way and every new album that came out during my lifetime, became my new favorite album. Enjoy the U2- ride! 🤪😜🎶🎼🎵

Maybe you could be interested in movie Killing Bono. There was a second band on that school that time and it shows the story of the second band using U2 as a base for comparision. They went different ways, U2 wanted to help them but... Watch it.

Devin, I highly suggest "I Will Follow," "Bullet the Blue Sky, "New Years Day," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and "Pride (In the Name of Love)". So many good tunes with U2!

This song was ranked at 131 on Rolling Stones magazine list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

There is a live version of all I want is you/ where the streets have no name. It give me chills everytime I see it, and I’ve seen it countless times. Slane castle is the venue.

Suggestion.....Live version of "Every Breaking Wave" MTV EMA, 2017....One of the best live vocal performances Bono has EVER delivered.

i think 90s was his vocal peak,

"New Year's Day" from their 1983 album _War_ and "Beautiful Day" from 2000 are two more, very different sounds from U2, rich with meaning, that I think you'd really appreciate.

You must react to U2 live! They sound better live! Everyone needs to see them Live at least once. I've seen them 6 times! My favorite band. I'm a true U2 Fanatic. Incredible concerts.

Yes, studio recording are great but to truely see U2 at their magical best you need to live to them in a concert, defo go for live recordings

This song saved my life. I was in a DEEP DEEP depression over my divorce. One of my best friends said to me that he was going to teach me how to play bass guitar. So he put thus song on and showed how to play it. So the next couple days I threw myself all in to learn it. Not realizing the message. Then when he came over next time he went to my cd player and played it. Asked me to sing it. Then he asked me the message. This made me realize I needed to get up and live again.

Try to imagine this taking over the airwaves, when they were dominated by boy bands, mediocre pop music, and hair metal. This was a breath of fresh air. And, it opened the ears and eyes of so many people.

The inside story to With or Without You is that Bono had struggles with being a Christian and Rock Star, his women that on the bed nails he waits for is Rock and Roll, while "through the storm we reached the shore, You gave it all but I want more.but I am waiting for You" is his relationship with Christ. Rarely is a U2 song devoid of a scripture or a scripture reference in the extend version of With our Without You (live version Rattle and Hum) quotes 2 Philippians 15b " Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky." Bono has been married to his wife, Alison aka Ali since 1982 in a Church of Ireland ceremony. His mother, Iris, died when Paul Hewson aka Bono was 14 and Ali started taking care of him & they have been together ever since. Ali is an Irish activist and a businesswoman. Sunday Bloody Sunday is my suggestion... its the first song i heard after i heard about the Marine Barracks Bombing in Beirut in 1983, which took the life of my Cousin, and although the lyrics have nothing to do with it, it just brings back that memory

U have to realise dude when this tune was released it was extremely unusual for its time. In the middle of synth pop and new romantic crap came this - unbelievable! Try 'Stay (faraway so close) or 'Bullet the blue sky' which followed this on the Joshua tree album.

Now that you've done Still Haven't Found and With or Without You, try Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bullet The Blue Sky for harder sounding more political songs. For a good live performance, start with "Bad" from Live Aid. And for Sunday Bloody Sunday, do the live version from Red Rocks.

You should listen to "Ain't no grave" from Johny Cash if you haven't yet. Another suggestion would be "Blood Brothers" by Manowar.

If you want the greatest band from 80s, check out queensryche. NOBODY sings better than Geoff Tate. He was in another dimension, better than Dio, Rob Halford, and even Steve Perry. He has way more range. Listen to anybody listening, empire, silent lucidity, take hold of the flame(live from Tokyo) and eyes of a stranger. You won’t be disappointed.

I'd have enjoyed the music more without all the offers of prayers, God in the background, Jesus quotes jumping up in the lyrics on screen and blessings. It's proven that a prayer being answered is precisely the same as tossing a coin. Really! Be cool, loving, rational and as nice as the Humanists and Atheists out here and you'll do well. But to pray for us... Well, you could consider working on the rational part of the equation... Peace. :)

Scott, you may not appreciate it now; but when life throws you a curve ball and you wish you had someone praying for you, you can rest easy knowing that Devin and I prayed for you. Scott, it takes a lot more faith to be an Atheist than it does to Believe in Jesus Christ! I would rather believe in a myth and find out that Heaven and Jesus is real, than face God's wrath on Judgement Day and be thrown into the lake of fire to burn for eternity in Hell because I refused to believe and give my life to JESUS. Trust me, there are no atheists in the Foxholes when the bullets and RPGs come flying in. Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins and my sins, so you can have Eternal Life in Heaven, what other man was willing to do that for you? That is why Our GOD is an AWESOME GOD He Reigns! Even if you don't believe, Devin wanting to pray for his listeners shouldn't be offensive. Be proud that Devin doesn't bend to the Cancel Culture and he stands strong in his faith and wants the best for you. There is nothing more rational than that, wanting the best life for your friends and people you meet. Devin is REAL, not fake! That man is genuine! Or my wife who died for a few minutes, actually saw my Grandmother who gave her a recipe location that everyone was looking for and we found it, and then was zapped back to life; Scott that means there is a Heaven, you will be reunited with your loved ones, all you have to do is surrender to Jesus Christ, ask Forgiveness of your sins, and accept Him into your life as your personal Lord and Savior! Scott, he is knocking at your heart, will you let JESUS in?

Your experience, and ours, would be far better if you said nothing during the music. Please give yourself time to think about a song before you speak.
