My father was in the hospital, his healthy was really critically. I received a call from the hospital, the doctor wanted to talk to me about my father. I didn’t know at the time, but when I received the call my father already passed away. So I took my car, put the first song I could found on my phone just to listen something while I was driving and that was the song I accidentally found. I was a U2 fan already, always listen their songs. But for some reason I never listened this song at the time. And this song made me drive to the hospital in a completely feeling of piece that I never could understand. It was like my father was with me, helping me to calm down, preparing me for the hard talk I was about to have with the doctor. Still today this song is very special to me. A little bit sad to me, but also a song that in some way brings me piece.

"Every gambler knows that to lose is what you're really there for." "Every sailor knows that the sea is a friend made enemy, and every shipwrecked soul knows what it's like to live without intimacy. I thought I heard the Captain's voice..." "Are we ready to be swept off our feet and stop chasing every breaking wave..." The waves, the sea, everything about this song is pure poetry and easily top five for Bono's best lyrics. This is more than heart on sleeve stuff -- Bono ripped his heart out here. Sublime and oh so bittersweet.

Met him Bono and his wife back in 2007 at Dublin airport. He was off as usual to do some gig in foreign lands. He was queuing up at check-in like everyone else refusing VIP treatment. I put out my hand to shake his and he obliged. I told him it was pleasure to meet him and he said likewise! I said I don't want an autograph but wanted to tell him that his voice reminded me of a mature wine the older it got the better it tasted. He laughed and thanked me. They don't make em like that anymore.

Do not compare this band to The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, or other bands that have not broken up and will do a song or two at an awards show or benefit every couple of years. The raw and boundless emotion and energy, ah... Maybe before I kick the bucket technology will make it possible to go back and experience things, like a rock concert, from our past in VR. Lyrics: Every breaking wave on the shore Tells the next one there'll be one more And every gambler knows that to lose Is what you're really there for Summer I was fearlessness Now I speak into an answer phone Like every fallen leaf on the breeze Winter wouldn't leave it alone, alone If you go If you go your way and I go mine Are we so Are we so helpless against the tide? Baby, every dog on the street Knows that we're in love with defeat Are we ready to be swept off our feet And stop chasing every breaking wave Every sailor knows that the sea Is a friend made enemy And every shipwrecked soul knows what it is To live without intimacy I thought I heard the captain's voice But it's hard to listen while you preach Like every broken wave on the shore This is as far as I could reach If you go If you go your way and I go mine Are we so Are we so helpless against the tide? Baby, every dog on the street Knows that we're in love with defeat Are we ready to be swept off our feet And stop chasing every breaking wave The sea knows where are the rocks And drowning is no sin You know where my heart is The same place that yours has been We know that we fear to win And so we end before we begin Before we begin If you go If you go your way and I go mine Are we so Are we so helpless against the tide? Baby, every dog on the street Knows that we're in love with defeat Are we ready to be swept off our feet And stop chasing every breaking wave

One day i startes itunes and there was „Songs of innocence“. I wondered but startet to listen to it and noticed the wonderful songs, especially „every breaking wave“ - it‘s such a beautiful song and touches my soul everytime I listen to it. I also noticed the discussions and anger about releasing the album at the itunes cloud and that it appered to anyone‘s account - which I just can‘t comprehend because without this I would have never had the idea or intention to listen to this wonderful album. I just want to say „Thank you“ to U2 and itunes for giving me access to this wonderful music ❤️

He was the biggest U2 fan, though, and he made me a fan when I was a child. I listen to this song a lot when I'm thinking of him. Here's to you, dad.

Ive been listening to U2 since 6th grade on my tape player back in 89' and to see this video 34years later is magical, by far best version of this song. beyond that is this most special occasion for this most lucky person to have done at their house im still trying to figure out how on earth was so lucky/fortunate!, but that to hear his voice and passion put into his song after all these years to hear his soul attaining an artistic musical level beyond measure is truly wonderful thing to witness..to think of all the people's lives they have influenced in such good ways in all these years, its truly so inspiring to me and unbelievable recording of this song and to be so lucky to have witnessed this im sure! Only saw them once in my life at the Tacoma Dome during the all you cant leave behind tour when album first came out like 99' or 2000.

Edge is such a great musician I’ve always been a huge fan of his and as a guitar player I like to watch what chords he’s come up with. He’s a very relaxed and focused guy. Thanks for the tune!

This song is timeless, it has healing powers, every time I listen to it, I am astonished by the depth of its lyrics. Rumi’s words or any other great poet’s words has such impact. U2, a True blessing, they have, they do and they will keep on healing the world, cause their music is beyond time and space

True. You are right. Listening to the lyrics I was also immediately thinking about a very wise man and teacher for many people Willigis Jäger. He knew Rumi's work very well and himself he wrote many books and one title is the wave is the ocean. Worth reading it !!! Love it. Thank you Willigis .R.I.P. Love U2. Thank you for making the world community happy with your work.

This is such an underrated song. Exceptionally well-written lyrics and the bass on this song compliments them so well. This song is a way of life, it gives you hope as well as a reality check.

U2 were amazing in Melbourne in November 2019, they had 70 thousand people singing every song. I saw them in 1989 and afther 30 years they have lost nothing, I was totally blown away.

One of the most pure and powerful performances you’ll see. Bono has always had it, and that power grows by the year. History unfolding and we are grateful to witness it.
