Udupi Thali Recipe | Thalis Of India Episode 06
The Udupi cuisine has its origin in the Ashta mathas of Udupi, founded by 13th century scholar Madhavacharya who believes and propagates the theory of dvait vedanta (or dualism) of Hindu philosophy. Most of the dishes that are now an integral part of Udipi cuisine are also the part of religious offering or bhog or prasadam of 13th century Shri Krishna Temple of Udupi. The recipes are developed by the Shivalli Madhwa Brahmins who with great devotion cook the food everyday for Lord Krishna with locally available ingredients.

Kunal is struggling to eat with hand sitting on the floor😀 He is using his left hand while eating in all the thali videos. South Indians never use left hand while having food at all. All the Southern states' thalis are energizing n healthy n dont make us feel drowsy. South Indian food is delicious, filling n healthy as well.

Lovely Video ❤️ Thanks for showing our authentic cuisine. Mattu gulla has GI tag and grown in Mattu village of Udupi only. It has medicinal properties. Along with Mattu gulla Yam , Jackfruit, Arbi leaves, Coloured cucumber and Malabar spinach are extensively used in Udupi cuisine. Lots of love from Udupi ❤️❤️

Nice presentation. Correction: Re the Coorg thali, the leafy vegetable Kage soppu is not malabar spinach, It grows all over India where there is good rains. Black nightshade in English, Ganike, Kasi, in Kannada, Manthakalli Keerai in Tamil and Malayalam. Rich in Iron and other minerals, given to pregnant and lactating mothers. Used also in ayurvedic treatments. Grandma's tales: Kage or Kaage is black crow and they love to munch on the black ripe berries of this plant. Natural Propagation was mostly by crow droppings.

Interesting Kunal ji. At our farm which is on the border of Maharashtra and Gujarat 7 kms from Sanjan , my father in law has painstakingly grown pepper,as well as passion fruit. Am reminded of the cooling passion fruit sherbet made by my mom in law. Thank you for an introduction to such interesting Coirgi food as well as Udupi thali.

Green brinjal varieties may be available in many parts of India. But the one grown in Udupi is local to Udupi alone with unique taste and very less to no bitterness (astringent) in it. It has govt of India's GI tag in 2011.
