    There are many US citizens who don't speak English, especially older ones who grew up in closed communities and got very little schooling. The Rio Grande Valley in Texas is about 80 to 90% Hispanic.

    You don't need to Speak English in order to be American. About 40% of the US used to be Mexico/New Spain. The US stole those lands, but there were plenty of Spanish Speakers already. Puerto Rico is also a US territory where most of the people speak Spanish. Furthermore, you could be born in the US but raised in another country, and that doesn't mean that you aren't American. Damn'! You could even be born in another country, but if one of your parents is American, you automatically get US Citizenship as well. So please, know your laws, and stop being so racist.     He lives in a mostly Hispanic part of Texas that was once Mexico before the U.S. Mexico war. A lot of the elders in that big area don’t know English but were born in the U.S.

    The Rio Grande Valley in Texas is majority Hispanic, and it's also one of the least educated parts of the country. A lot of people his age got very little schooling. It's not uncommon to find people who don't speak English there and are US citizens. Most are elderly and don't need to speak English to get by. Most young people do speak English or are bilingual. Texas is a border state, so Spanish has always been widely spoken there, for generations.

    I know of more than 1 case of people that are born in the US and don't speak English because there parents brought them to Mexico, my own daughter doesn't speak English and she was born in the US. Maybe she will never go back to the US or maybe she will, that will be her decision. Just remember that for many with Hispanic last names did not cross the border, the border crossed them. When the US took the land it also took part of our culture.

    The Immigration inspectors at the border have a list of midwives who have submitted and registered fraudulent births to county officials stating that they delivered a child in the United States when the child was actually born in Mexico. If a person provides a birth certificate as proof of U.S, citizenship ad it shows that he was delivered by a midwife, it is suspect. Texas also provides a delayed birth certificate to people who were not delivered by a doctor or at a hospital. These can be obtained by submitting letters from people who "remember" you being born in the United States and other documents that are far from proof of being born in the U.S. like school records, old medical records, baptismal certificates, etc.

    I have a nephew who moved back to Mexico 7 years ago when he was only 5 years old and only speaks Spanish and I don’t really know if he would move back to USA since he likes it so much over there; nevertheless, it shouldn’t be an obstacle if he doesn’t speak English to move back.

    In order to become a US citizen, he had to be born in the US. He was born in Weslaco, TX. This makes him a US citizen. He could have been raised in Mexico, which is why he does not speak English. But he is still a US citizen regardless if he speaks English or not.

    You have it partially correct... for a person to be a legal citizen his parents have to be a legal citizen or must be in this country legally. This means a person who is born in this country to a illegal mother gains his mother's birth country citizenship. Unfortunately to many people got lucky and recceived citizenship because we have people that misterpreted the laws.... I am also a naturalized citizen.

    But in this case, he had a US birth certificate. What I do not understand is why he did not have a US passport, that probably could have prevented all of this from happening. You can become a citizen by naturalization as well.

The 14 amendment of the U.S. constitution bestowed birth right citizenship to all persons born in the United States proper, it's territories and administrative zones. regardless of the legal status or citizenship of either of that persons parents. It matters not one tiny bit who you are born to just where you are born

It wasn't even close to what you claim.In a 6-2 decision issued on March 28, 1898, the Supreme Court held that Wong Kim Ark had acquired U.S. citizenship at birth and that "the American citizenship which Wong Kim Ark acquired by birth within the United States has not been lost or taken away by anything. happening since his birth." You should also know that the 14 amendment was authored specifically to repudiate the Dred Scot ruling regarding citizenship. The 14th Amendment's citizenship clause overruled Dred Scott, declaring that “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside . The United States practices very strict birth right citizenship and in the U.S. citizenship attaches at birth. Pursuant to the Fourteenth Amendment and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) a person born within and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States automatically acquires US citizenship. At this time There are no laws prohibiting foreigners from traveling to the United States to give birth; the children born here are automatically American citizens, according to the Constitution

    Ok how about this I'm a DACA recipient and I talk English with a passing grade of a B in my English class and my mom is illegal she speaks English so well that she surprised me my dad speaks little English but he is doing more than what tomis from Fox news her grandmother couldn't speak a word if English in 41 years my siblings are US citizens but can't speak or read very well especially in English so what does that do for you? Does that show how stupid America can get?

    My family migrated to a US territory when I was a kid. Even though a 25-30 percent of its population are from my home country I learned english... yet here we are somone who was born in this country who cant speak any english.

    You don't need to Speak English in order to be American. About 40% of the US used to be Mexico/New Spain. The US stole those lands, but there were plenty of Spanish Speakers already. Puerto Rico is also a US territory where most of the people speak Spanish. Furthermore, you could be born in the US but raised in another country, and that doesn't mean that you aren't American. Damn'! You could even be born in another country, but if one of your parents is American, you automatically get US Citizenship as well. So please, know your laws, and stop being so racist. Fun Fact: At federal level, the US has not made English the official Language. PS: What If you were born with a mental or physical disability that doesn't let you communicate effectively? Should that be a reason for deportation? As a matter of fact a US-born Citizen with a mental illness was deported once to Mexico, and then Mexico deported him to Honduras. He had to live on the streets for months. His only mistake was that he was unable to speak at all.

    The Rio Grande Valley in Texas is majority Hispanic, and it's also one of the least educated parts of the country. A lot of people his age got very little schooling. It's not uncommon to find people who don't speak English there and are US citizens. Most are elderly and don't need to speak English to get by. Most young people do speak English or are bilingual. Texas is a border state, so Spanish has always been widely spoken, for generations.

    There is nothing wrong with practicing your culture. What is American culture anyway? So if we celebrate St Patrick's Day you would call that "Irish Mindset"? What about Oktoberfest would that be "German Mindset"? The United States is mixture of all cultures. I have a Russian neighbor his mother doesn't speak a lick of English but they became American Citizens decades ago. It seems like when we talk about "illegal" Non English Speakers in this country. The media always put a Hispanic in the front page. If this guy was European and doesn't speak a lick of English. The comments would be more accommodating.
