Because Vince is completely overated. He is a wrestling genius they say but wrestling has never been more unpopular than it is now. And because he has had no real competition since 1998 he is thrust upon this pedestal of greatness by some. Of course he has been number 1 for over two decades look at the competition. TNA and AEW were and are run by marks with rich parents.

The Funkasaurus debut is legit one of my fave moments from that time period. From the presentation, to Brodus’ mannerisms, to the commentary, and even Curt Hawkins did a good job of putting the whole thing over with his reactions. It made for something special to me. Was hoping Brodus would become a monster babyface since something like that felt fresher than a monster heel (especially since Mark Henry was still doing his best work with the Hall of Pain). But I think the wind got sucked out of the sails when Brodus kept getting punked out by the recently turned heel Big Show and he just became another stepping stone after that, unfortunately. Much respect to Dusty for being able to put such a positive spin on it. You gotta love hearing these kinds of stories between him and the wrestlers who were under his charge. The man went above and beyond to find Brodus his comfort zone. A true legend.

I remember that debut. WWE had *still* been running the heel promos for his old gimmick right up to his first match, and when the Funkasaurus came out instead, you could hear a pin drop in the arena, even over the TV. Total stunned silence. And fan silence is the kiss of death for a wrestler. If he hadn't started jawing with the fans during the match to get them back involved--and stumbled on "My bad!" to get himself over--that probably would have been his last night in the company. Credit to Tyrus. Vince set him up to fail, and he succeeded in spite of him.

You know I get the feeling Vince’s actions weren’t really aimed at Tyrus and was more aimed at HHH. I just get the feeling that Vince had a bit of jealousy towards HHH and he just waited for an excuse to yank the rug from under HHH’s new star protege. Sorta the same way when HHH. Got pulled off NXT and Vince was just waiting to undo all HHH did and inject his own ideas. In the perfect world HHH would be running WWE with Vince sipping margaritas in Florida

The way he tells the story gives 0 indication to what you have said. You’ve created a whole thesis out of nothing. According to Brodus Clay, Vince saw he was funny so wanted to give him a funny gimmick (more true to his real life self). In no way does this seem like a punishment. It may not exactly have been what the guy wanted but he got it over and it worked. You rambling about jealousy conspiracy theories from this just makes me wonder whether you need to spend less time reading wrestling rumours and such online

Ironic thing is that he actually got that gimmick over. It’s his mini feud with Big Show that took out his momentum. They pretty much fed him to someone that doesn’t even need a boost.
