When designing a new commercial audio system, whether it’s for a restaurant, your church, a retail store, or any commercial application, it's important to think through what kind of speakers you want to use. Do you want to use wall-mounted speakers, hanging pendant speakers, or in-ceiling speakers, and what accessories are going to be needed to make sure the speaker can be mounted successfully?
Today on Pro Acoustics Tech Talk, Nathan is talking about the three main types of commercial speaker mounts - wall-mount, hanging pendant, and in-ceiling, and the different hardware needed by each.
Wall Mount U-Shaped Speaker Brackets
-Typically a wall mount speaker is going to come with some form of U-bracket or wall mount that you can use to mount it to the wall.
Drywall Ceiling Speaker Mounts
-Sometimes you will need additional accessories to go into sheetrock, drywall, or a hard lid ceiling. Drywall mounts go in and clip down onto the drywall and the speaker mounts into that.
Ceiling Speaker Rough-In Brackets
- Rough-in kits are pre-installed brackets that go above your drywall. The bracket lays across your studs and hammers or screws into the actual structure itself, leaving a hole in the center for the speaker to mount into.
Drop Ceiling Tile Bridges
-When the speaker is too heavy to be supported by the tile, many times you need a tile bridge. The tile bridge lays across your two-by-two or two-by-four tile grid. The speaker gets mounted inside and then mounts to the actual tile bridge itself which helps to support the weight.
C-Ring & Ceiling Tile Support Rails
-Some speakers use what's called tile rails and a C-Ring. These tile rails lay across your T-bar ceiling. From there, the C-Ring lays across the rails, and you mount your speaker into that.
Ceiling Tile Speaker Mounts
-Some ceiling mount speakers can mount right into a drywall or sheetrock ceiling with just the included hardware. The hardware built onto a ceiling mount speaker can be called dog legs, which clip to mount into a hard ceiling.
