Never mind the comments below. I’m a North Shields kid who at 10yrs old together with my mates used to walk to Tynemouth everyday in the summer and use the outdoor pool. Never paid to get in. Didn’t have any money. Used to distract the guy on the entrance and sneak in one by one. Great times. Fabulous in fact, and the water was a lot warmer than the little outdoor pool in North Shields at Hawkeys Lane. Now that was an ice cold pool. And you couldn’t sneak in either. Simpler times. Better times. When we all had nothing….but we had it all!

I used to go in the seventies with my mother, brother and sister. We didn't have much money but my mother managed to take us a few times in the summer every year, it has a special place in my heart. I go to Tynemouth at least twice a week nowadays, it is sad to see it in such decay, they should have looked after it

Cold didn’t bother us🥶

I was 5 years old in 1967. Miss those days.

Ah.. memories.. it was absolutely freezing in there.. too cold to spend a long time in the water 🥶🥶

Went in there three times and only swam once, icy cold, brr

Remember the first time I went, absolutely gutted to find out they used Sea water instead of Fresh water !
