I once heard a Hollywood executive say that Tyler Perry has the one thing that every filmmaker wants - a loyal audience. As with any film, some will like it some won't. That's actually how it is with any artwork, film, TV show, song, book, etc.

No one wants to see the bad. We'd rather pretend that it doesn't exist. This movie had some of the best acting of all of his movies and I thought it was better than average of his movies. I would have liked to have seen maybe flashbacks of Dallas's childhood and young adult life to better understand his relationship with his mother and his earlier relationship with his wife. @Stanley-k7u interesting take, but I disagree to certain extent. The "non fans" that are actually his "supporters" that offer constructive criticism should not expect to be acknowledged if all they want is for him to do better. They should be hopeful that he does take in into consideration and apply it to later projects. I would find it very difficult to acknowledge someone as an actual supporter if they tweeted/posted that I need to be stopped. That's not supportive, that's purposely being a jerk just for the sake of social media clout. The post that Tatyana posted was constructive and helpful. So hopefully he takes a post like that into consideration. I want him to KEEP winning.

The issue with TPs movies is that the characters are always one dimensional. No layers. The spouses are just mean for no reason and as an audience member it’s hard to connect with. In real life, there are ebs and flows in relationships but TP just shows the character in one personality which is unrealistic. Hell, even IKE and Tina had some good moments with one another on screen, between the slaps 🤷🏽‍♀️

lol! But His business model is a recyclable stock library of characters with similar properties and characteristics . His audience is a part of the algorithm and an overhaul of the entire formula will turn off his audience and turn his business upside down. Errrbody knows what his movies are about but yet folk stay writing long ass essays on how its all bad. It is so hellacious that folk commenting draw attention to it and he makes bank ( rightfully so ) . He has given Meagan good the same weave as Kelly Rowland early this so clearly it ought to be visible feature written in all the contracts.

DV is a reoccurring theme because it is Tyler Perry’s lived experience. Often creatives are guided by what they “know”. Let’s also not make light of the fact that sadly DV is to this day an issue. If you live a more idyllic lifestyle then of course you cannot relate. I sadly can relate because I grew up in a home with DV. Are you familiar with Tyler Perry’s personal experience growing up with DV and being a victim? He’s literally sharing his lived experience.

I am grateful for the cinema he produces consistently, the storylines he highlights, and the fact that he treats the talent well. I have my own criticism of the plot and development of characters, but it has improved. Keep going, TP! I have watched movies from Bollywood and Nollywood, whose directors develop similarly over time. It takes time, but I am happy with the growth in what is produced. I wonder if anyone ever thinks about how telling these stories has given people hope and the strength to leave certain situations......

I enjoyed this film from Tyler Perry. It was so real and deep. It shows that if a man is not healed from past traumas it will carry over into adulthood and relationships. What I enjoyed about the character of Meagan Good was a woman like many BW who remains in a relationship to change a man or situation when they have no control over it, and is well aware of the background of the family because you're not just marrying the person, you're also marrying the family, and that goes for both genders. Corey and Megan Good played the hell out of their character, and I am glad Tyler allowed them to be in his movie. People could say what they want, but Tyler has shown he is grassroots and provided opportunities for many Black Americans.

He should absolutely ignore the hate and criticism when it comes to his films because to me he’s done more good movies than bad and on top of that he’s continuing to give black actors jobs and for that reason, I will continue to support him. I haven’t watched this new movie yet I’ll just have to see for myself for an opinion on it.

@@starlightrocks7 Spike Lee's not jealous, more like he is disappointment that black people in general are so mentally screwed up by slavery and Jim Crow that far too many of them dont have the innate desire to see themselves in positive affirmational roles. I think Spike Lee might feel like his whole career of being a _"conscious"_ film-maker was a complete waste of time.

I loved the movie! ❤️Looking for a strong black male, what about her Dad, her best friend’s husband, her childhood friend, the men in the church!!!!? All good Black men! Like every other race we have cruddy Black men/women too. Everyone has good and bad! But it’s a movie about ‘Divorce’ as a BW who managed in the court system watching this everyday, there is Rarely a hero in the scenario. The Heroes are the Black Men/Women who are NOT divorced and make good choices when selecting a spouse!!! BTW - White Divorce is just as Ugly but that would call for an all white ‘cast’ . We need to heal our own and we do that by facing the truth and doing better. If we HEAL our men, we heal the family, if we heal the family, we heal the race! See the Bigger picture! She said in the movie, she was tired of living in the RED, she was ready to be in the Black. Thus the name of the movie Divorce in the Black. Being in the Red is a financial term which means in the ‘negative’. SHE WORKED IN A BANK.

Too many couples get a divorce, and the man will not leave the woman alone. Most of the time they kill the woman. To get rid of them to prevent being tormented or killed, it's best to get rid of the man. This is what the movie is all about. Look at all the women dead because of their ex lover or ex husband.

I have not been a fan of Tyler for a long time, but the level of hate he gets makes me believe people are triggered. It is as if Tyler is personally attacking them and they become blinded to the fact that there are positive Black men in his movies. Like it or not a lot of Black women can identify with being mistreated in relationships. Let them have their entertainment. And don't watch it if he is offensive to you.
