Hi Davie, this is the first ever fly I attempted to tye myself ( - after having learned some of the basics..). it caught me 2 fish on Lough Erne over the weekend even though the fish were feeding mainly on spent. Stunning fly. To say I was chuffed would be an understatement. Cheers! Charlie

Hello Davie, I have been catching up with your series of fly tying videos. Somehow, I've missed them over the last few years. In any case I'm finding them fascinating and very instructive, so much that I've adjusted my own tying techniques to greater effect. I know you've included materials in your posts latterly. Earlier videos need careful listening. But, this "Large Mayfly Emerger", I just cannot clearly hear the material you use for the rib...Clear Wrap? Could you please clarify? I'd love to try this fly on some of the lochs in Caithness that have a Mayfly bloom in June! Many thanks

Hi Tom Busza, I'm glad that you enjoy the videos and that they have encouraged you to tye, I use a Clear Wrap which came from Sparton Tackle but I've struggled to find any since Steve the owner of the company died..If I come across any I will post a link to it for you... All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, it looks like a great pattern. One question though, do you oil or treat any part of it

HiJohn O'Neill, I would treat the CDC and the Deer Hair with a floatant but leave the body and tail...It is certainly worth tying and has done really well in Ireland... All the very best Davie

Thanks a lot Davie. I'll try it on one of the trickiest lakes in Ireland to get trout on fresh Mays, Lough Ree. Huge trout though...average trout size is well over three pounds and my personal best is eight pounds twelve ounces on a size 16 Ginger Quill! You see huge fish every year but have had May trout pass my dry mayfly patterns as they're focussing on the hatching fly. I'll definitely give your pattern a good run! Thanks again.

Hey Paul, I recommend you a great book by Charlie Craven called "Basic Fly Tying". I don't know where you live, but all the flies described in that book are great for North America. You can find it / buy it in Amazon
