Hello Mr. Davie. Although this video is already 6 years old, this CDC-pattern you showed is timeless. This video of yours was (like always) inspiration enough to give it a go. A week ago I tied about 20 flies like this in different sizes (14-20) and I gave them a test the day after and can only say one thing :"These flies killed the river". I must admit there was a good hatch going on but this was above expectation. My friend also fished these flies and together we caught around 60 brookies in a day (normally we catch 30-40). No trophies, but alltogether it was excellent fishing. Thanks so much for once more a very good fly. Greetings and tight lines from the Čech Republic 🇨🇿 and stay healthy.
Nice one Davie ! now in my 70s I often wonder how we managed without CDC way back in the 50-60s lol . IT really is a Versatile little Feather.
Hi Davie, beautiful as always. the fly looked dapper after you gave it a hair cut. liked all versions, especially the wet. thanks.
Great looking rough pattern. Of course tied meticulously. I did like the lighter wing better, but I see the place for the darker. Your original wet fly the McPhail Mayfly is the first time I had ever seen french partridge. I did end up getting some from a feather company and now have all colors, yellow, orange, olive, natural and sunburst (a little more red than I would have liked) first time dying them myself. So I bleached them out in the sun and now it is a good sunburst color. All the best to you and yours. God bless, Sean
Its Snowing outside as I txt this ! Looking at your Mayfly Davie ones mind drifts off to Warmer Days lol.
Beautiful pattern Davie
Another beauty! Thanks Davie ATB.
Very Nice. Always a pleasure.
I often wonder how many years of tying it took for you to get that incredible sense of proportions and color. Beautiful pattern.
It's a beauty
Hi Davie, as always, a nice video. I have a question somewhat off-topic. I would love you to do a dedicated video on dry fly hooks. When you look on-line at stores there are so many to chose from. Different shank lengths; eyes up, down and straight; different weights; different hook point angles; different shapes, etc etc. I haven't seen anyone really tackle this. There are videos describing the difference between streamer vs dry vs nymph hooks, but that's obvious. So please, a really in-depth look at hooks within the same category. Many thanks.
Another one to try :)
Uh, it doesn't look very rough at all. It does look "buggy', though. 👍
Great looker
Супер!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Класс! 👍🤝🇰🇿
Hi Davie, really like this pattern and its variants, Is it possible that perhaps you could show a variant in a spent spinner with the CDC, I fish a Lake that for the want of better words can be quite stubborn, i have seen myself throwing up all the usual suspects however the trout will not take, however in the evening when the spents come off the shore some real action comes into play, This pattern is smashing and i'd love to see a Spent variant if you could accommodate a request?
Hi Davie, any suggestions or patterns for tying a talapia fry.

Hi David Harvey, I'm sorry I don't have a dressing for a dragon fly, we do have them but not in great numbers that the fish feed on them heavily..There will be some patterns out there for both nymphs and dries... All the very best Davie

+Davie McPhail Thankyou for responding.
Davie, Do you have a link for the flotant you use on this fly? (type or photo) Thanks in advance. Mike.

Hi Mike, There's a few floatants that you can use on CDC but I've always used Mucillin both cream and liquid version though I apply the floatant at home so that they dry before I use them as it will last far longer...Here is a link to them for you to see... www.fly-fishing-tackle.co.uk/acatalog/mucilin.html All the very best Davie

+Davie McPhail Thank you for that Davie. I'll give it a try. Mike.
I've seen this on here and just not stopped to look. Have you fished over here Davie? Is there any reason this style of dry fly would not work here? I don't see why not. You see obviously I'm not going to tie a thousand flies to pack with me in the mountains. Unless I can hire an assistant named Igor to haul my rods and flies! "Igor pass me the 10 ft 4 wt with the floating line please! Oh and shoo that Grizzly bear away until I fish this pool!" Come to think of it where did Igor ever get to? 😁" Nope I'm going to pick flies that I will use and then a half dozen other patterns to try. I few years ago I put on a fly pattern called "The Thing from Uranus," so called because it was voted the least likely fly to be asked for. I used it all season. The next year I put on an Orange Stimulator and caught everything on it. Now I want to mix and match. So a few of these and some of my own will be hitting the water next Spring. I hope your birthday was wonderful.

Hi Kerry, They would certainly work well on your rivers and lochs if you tyed them to suit.. Unfortunately I've not fished in America, when I have been over it's been winter and the rivers are frozen.. All the very best Davie

Hi Rudy Chavira, I have used both hairline and trout hunter CDC and they would be ideal for tying these flies as they are very good..The cdc feathers I used in the video I bought from Premier Angling in Ireland, I also dyed the feathers in the video as well.. All the very best Davie
