    Hi Davie, thanks for the video(s). when making the CDC dubbing, is it a case of just stripping the fibres from the quill and mixing it up? or do you need to chop up the fibres in to smaller bits? Thanks again, I've learnt so much from your videos.

  • @DavieMcPhail

    @DavieMcPhail

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Daniel, I cut the fibres off as close to the stem as I can go rather than stripping them off, you'll not need to chop them up as it mixes and dubs on easily..I'm glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the kind words... All the very best Davie..

    Hi Stuart, Just leave it out or you could use green floss or wool for a small tail which would give the impression of the egg sack..Thank you for the kind words and be safe... All the very best Davie..

    Excellent davie , question though ,CDC dubbing ?, could you just throw a bunch of small inferior CDC feathers into a coffee grinder which would include the stalks of course or do you have to trim each and every feather of its barbs to make the dubbing

  • @DavieMcPhail

    @DavieMcPhail

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Stuart, You would have to cut away the fibres from the stems of the feathers before you put them in the blender as you will get a finer and easier dubbing..I'm glad you liked the fly and I hope you are well.. All the very best Davie..

    Davie: couple of questions - why trim the cdc on the body, is it not desirable for the fibers the stick out and catch air bubbles like the natural. Also, have you ever tried a weighted version to fish as an ascending pupa?

  • @DavieMcPhail

    @DavieMcPhail

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi wymingtrout, You can leave them if you wish as it will still work, I just like to trim it to get a better shape in the fly...I have tyed some weighted versions over the years with some success though friends of mine that have fished abroad with them have had better results.. All the very best Davie

    Hi wymingtrout, They do last quite long but like any fine fibre they can break off anytime, though as you said they do look realistic/good.. All the very best Davie
