Thanks Mak! A nice and simple - I'll tie some in size 16 and 18 to imitate the small caddis flies we have here. Cheers, Hank

Hey Mark, I have just watched every video on KZread about tying these elk cdc caddis and I am doing the exact same thing, except my caddis won’t float. Are you treating the cdc with anything? I am using size 14 , 16 and 18 hooks with premium natures spirit elk hair and they just sink, now if I tie a normal elk hair caddis they float without using any floatant. Could it be bad cdc?

Thank you Fly Dry River,, To be honest I am not a big fan of CDC, But it could be bad CDC like you said, what I normally do when they start sinking , give them a good squeeze with pepper Tissue & they float, give it a try and see what you thing :))

Makflies yep that’s cool and all with the paper towel, but these sink as soon as i tie them (like in a glass of water to see what they look like) lol. I paid good money for this cdc as well, mind you I purchased 7 boxes of the stuff, I’m so mad right now. Where do you buy you’re cdc or what brand do you use?

@@flydryriver4966 It shouldn't sink straight away, I think the CDC might be bad or not really a CDC, you have to be careful when buying CDC Feathers, I have bought mine from Veniard long time ago :))

Makflies the problem is it’s a brand name, but, the problem maybe as Barry ord clake pointed out, is that it may not have be cold dyed. But considering the brand name I would have expected way better quality, so I’ll be tying a bunch of nymphs with this cdc, as we know it likes to sink lol.

If you measure and cut the elk hair first you don’t have to cut the hair like you did and you get a nice bulbed head that floats 10x better.

I’m pretty sure I know what I saw and you clearly cut the elk hair to shape the head which you should really do. Each to their own.
