I use to work for a bus company in Fife Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 as a Labourer & Buses have bn a big interest of mine since the late 80s. I use to service the buses. My favourite bus for working on was the Volvo B10M PS buses plus the Volvo coaches we had. Checking & changing oils etc. Thanks for your video Anton I found really interesting Mate 👍

What happened to Optare's Metrodeckers? They were trialled on a few Go-Ahead routes but have vanished. They look like pretty cool buses

Great video as ever ! I liked the observation about the overhang at the back of the buses. Pulling out from bus stops driving a bus with a long rear overhang must be difficult because you really need to be looking in your offside mirror as you merge with traffic - but as the bus is pivoting on its rear wheels the overhang will initially move towards the pavement and could hit street furniture or people - which you would only see in your nearside mirror. Mmmm ... that seems to be a problem - because you cannot look in both mirrors at the same time. Can any bus drivers comment on how they deal with this problem ... Jonathan

The evosetis on the 93 used to make a weird loud sound that gave me headaches. Do you know what that was?

5:00, I was doing a private hire job in Wandsworth in 2016 I was picking up in garret lane near debenhams and that bus stop there is enough space for about 4 buses to serve it. So I took my bus ( RML Routemaster) as far forward of the bus stop as possible and gave buses enough space to serve the stop behind me. A bus driver decided to come to close to my bus when he stopped and when he moved off he managed to get passed me but he didn't take into account his back swing so as he turned the rear overhang wacked into the bus stop and it was only enviro 400, the driver carried on but there wasn't any damage to either the bus or bus shelter but scared the crap out of people near the stop!

Great Video as always Anton, I'm on the same page as you from a drivers perspective of Volvo vs Enviro, generally I'm driving Volvo B9TLs with Wrightbus eclipse Gemini bodywork and they're by far the best busses to drive that are based in my depot up here in Manchester, we also have Enviro 400s (non hybrids) which myself and many of the other drivers agree on that they aren't all that pleasant to drive compared to a Volvo. The rest of our fleet in my depot is Volvo B7rle urban eclipse single deckers, although their age is starting to show. My favourite busses in my depot are sadly no longer used for various reasons that I'm unsure of and they're Scania Omnicity Bendy Busses which were by far the best to drive and work on, although that's only going to live on as memories unless they come back into service which doesn't look very likely

It would have been a a speed of no more than 30mph. That area with the front door is not a strong area to begin with. Which is another reason you must not stand further forward than you should. Plus, the driver needs to look out the door for any cyclists passing on the that side.

You wear size 12 feet? My feet are around 13-14 and have always had difficulty putting my feet in when using public transport

the gemini also has an extra window in the staircase area (at least arriva's and metroline's ones) but they got around the advertisement problem by simply moving the space forward, surprised mcv didn't think of that too

Anton Which bus route do you drive the most

The only Evoseti Volvo B5LH I’ve been on is one on the 13. Had dark Green grab handles. Legroom is alright even compared to the Wright bodied one. I have yet to try an Enviro 400 MMC B5LH though there hiding on the 177.

The one you are driving looks like a hybrid and the one in front doesn't so it might be model changes to fir different part's to the bus for the hybrid version ?

The extra "window" only appears on the first batch (MHV1-20) - Presumably its removal was to allow 'T' adverts to be fitted, rather than just strip adverts..

Think it should be used as a reminder that when the driver says the bus is full, then don't push your way on and stand on the front platform - you never know what may occur during the course of your journey.

Telling people that the bus is full can be really rather difficult at times as a lot of the general public I find don't listen to the driver, I've had it a few times when I've had to shout through the attack screen to get the message across to them and some still don't listen. Especially when you drive a Volvo B7rle urban eclipse and the nearside mirror is mounted right next to the door and passengers heads get in the way of seeing it

not really to do with the video. but do all the buses have the same speed limiter on them? So what factors depend on what speed the buses are limited at

As you say, you have to watch the tail swing with a long rear overhang. A 24 tonne lorry with a lifting rear tag axle did that to a bus shelter in Epsom (by Nando's). He turned sharply and the rear end swiped (wrote off) the bus shelter.

The bus that crashed was the 35 To Clapham

Because they always end up on other routes, use lvf.io, see the code MHV and then copy the registration into your search bar and you should find pictures.

What are they like to ride on?

The double decker's where I live have three seat over the front axle and a single seat is right behind the driver's cab and there is window next to that seat as well that goes straight through to the driver's cab

Not a fan of the Evoseti myself. However, you say that the bus was driving slightly differently? I know the bus is a Volvo B5 chassis, was the bus in DPF Regen mode by any chance?

TayTransport (Ross) I'm not a fan of the Evoseti either, I drove one when it had only been in service a fortnight and for a new bus it was terrible, so many rattles and bangs. MCV build quality is shocking.

Hi Anton, just wanted to ask you a quick question. Im 17 at the moment and thinking of applying to be a bus driver next year, i think its a career i would enjoy and id probably end up moving to London after driving in my city for a few years. Would it be worth a young person getting into bus driving? The rise of self driving cars/transport would worry me that i would end up getting screwed over by a robot but i cant see that happening for at least 10-15 years maybe even 20+ years Thanks, keep up the good work on the channel.

@@ashthatoneguy Not as planned lmao. COVID and life happened and I am only just about to get my driving licence (test in January). I still plan on applying for a job as a bus driver once I have my licence but I almost certainly wont be moving to London because of the cost of living in there.

No the Anton is different but it is sort of a hybrid one but I know what you mean

If you don't know Brixton is a REALLY busy area and accidents that did happened on the 23/6/16 are always happening to go as been on many times that could had been as nasty. Think the layout of Brixton needs changing as one day there be another serious accidents

I much prefer the Enviros however ours aren't hybrids and the scanias i've tried elsewhere in the countrys are by far the best!

You prefer the one with the window by the staircase

LondonTransportMaster nah that’s wrong information 68 goes to WL in march they’ve already started the route learning for it and the 468 to Norwood Arriva in March as well and 196 not confirmed yet either WL or Beddington

These have different engine to ones outside the UK

This differences are probably down to the bodyshop having to fabricate the luggage bay etc as I imagine getting unusual parts like that from an Egyptian company can't be easy. If it was a Wright bus for example it would repaired with a plentiful supply of parts and you wouldn't be able to see a difference

The bus that was in the crash is BU16 OYO

in your video you mentioned about the bus crashing with a fire engine, it was route no, 35 Clapham junction go ahead bus. BU16OYO on google then click on flickr its there Anton

Never knew that but I think these are unsuitable for some routes. Especially Central London.

Route master windows are the smallest opens 15” wide at least

I like the enviro 400 and Volvo Gemmini 1&2 layout better than this 1 row before the door on the newer buses

This is why the need to put emergency on both level of the bus. And on the second level but emergency exit with stairs that folls down to the when the emergency doors open

Channel 7 HD ...the fire engine was Involved in the collision...so further emergency vehicles (police ambulance and fore engines) were called out to deal with the RTA.

Just looked up the incident. Outside Lewisham Town Hall. The fire appliance didn't come off too well either. It must have scared the life out of the driver and front passenger. It looks like he took the junction the wrong side and collided with the bus.

I never been to the evoseti that has window but I’ve been to the one that has no window

The company I work for has 19 Evosetis up in Yorkshire. Mechanically they are fine but MCV build quality is awful. They are built to a price and it shows.
