ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Interesting lecture. But I didn't get really the last feature, where he said, that the world, the body and the mind are once, because we only can perceive them together with our consciousness. But when I'm sleeping or when I am in coma, I am not aware of something, but the world, my body and mind are still existing. Or when it is raining now in New York, I am not aware of that, because I live in Switzerland. But it is still a reality apart from me respectively from my awareness. What about that? Can somebody help me in this particular issue? Thank you in advance and be blessed.

Each on is over an hour long, and they are incredibly clear. Best wishes to you.

When you are in deep sleep, you don’t experience anything. Questions you ask are just thoughts in your waking state. NY / Switzerland are thought forms in you. Below is a dialogue with the great sage Sri Ramana Maharshi: D: I have a toothache; is that only a thought? Sri Bhagwan: Yes. D: Then why can't I think that there is no toothache, and so cure myself? Sri Bhagwan: One does not feel the toothache when one is absorbed in other thoughts or when asleep. D: But still it remains. Sri Bhagwan: So strong is man's conviction of the reality of the world that it is not easily shaken off. But the world is no more real than the individual who sees it. D: At present there is a Sino-Japanese war going on. If it is only in the imagination, can or will Sri Bhagavan imagine it not to be going on and so put an end to it? Sri Bhagwan.: (laughing) The Bhagavan of the questioner (whom the questioner sees as an external being) is as much a thought of his as the Sin-Japanese War!

Manuel Wettstein in the conceptual dream world we are in we are separate. The entire experience of your life has taken place in your consciousness as images/sounds etc. all these have taken place inside you and are as close to you as your own thoughts. The story you see of “others” who are separate, places that are seperate all come to you in the form of such sounds/images/thoughts which are not seperate to you in any way. You and me as characters in the movie of life are seperate but the movie screen has never been seperate from you including all the imagery of an outside world depicted on it.

The position that the self is the Brahman are absurd. Then who is having the Maaya? What is the locus of Avidya - Jeeva or Brahman? It cannot be Brahman as nothing can cloud the all effulgent Brahman. It cannot be Jeeva either as according to Adwaitam, Jeeva is the result of Avidya. The locus of Avidya cannot be in the result of the Avidya itself, right? Adwaitam is nothing more than verbal trickery propounded by Shankara. If Brahman is the ONLY thing existing, then, from where and whence can Maaya come from?

Am born in an Adwaitic Tamil Brahmin - Iyer family. Was exposed only to Adwaitam while growing up and always found it to be utterly illogical and a meaningless Tattwam. Just so you know. It is Adwaitins who nod their heads like a sheep and repeat like a parrot what they hear from their Adwaitic teachers without ever using their brains or questioning their teachers.

@@shivprasaddinkar People turn into dualists being easily carried away by superficial objections which reflects their lack of assimilation of advaita which in turn reflect their lack of clarity of mind while learning.
