Two Leica 21mm Lenses

Фильм және анимация

Nick Rains examines the widest fixed focal length lens currently available in the Leica M range. The 21mm focal length. There is a wider lens admittedly, the Tri-Elmar, but with it being 16, 18, and 21mm, all the comments in the video are still valid.

Shooting on the M11P currently... and loving it!!! As far as wides go I have the 28 LUX... now that is one stellar lens. So had to save a few bucks and opted for the 21mm 3.4. Best W/A combo I've ever owned!!!

Professional as always. My lens collection for my M-P 240/M 240 includes a 21, 50 and 90 mm. I'm a great fan of the 21 mm focal length, and it has been very useful in tight spaces and low light conditions as well. So I agree with Nick! BTW: you make some of the best and helpful reviews on YT. Keep on rolling!

The 21mm lens maybe considered ' ultra wide ' , but in my experience it is actually the most natural and closest to the coverage of the human eyes and its angular coverage of about 90 degrees falls within the sweet range of the human ' Binocular ' vision. The point to remember in photography is that the human mind, a super computer if there ever was, interprets and adjusts the visual information received from the eye in a manner as to fulfill our expectations of the perspective as we want it to be. I do have a few 20mm and 21 mm lenses, including a Leitz Leica 21 mm F2.8 Elmarit M ASPH, a 21 mm F2.8 Zeiss Biogon for Contax G, and a Nikkor AIS 20mm F2.8. They are all superb lenses.

My 21mm f3.4 Super Angulon is a lovely lens Nick. On a digital you do get colour fringing because of the proximity of the rear element to the sensor but that can be dealt with in post. Having said that, on my M-A it works really well and because it is vintage, it renders beautifully and is not as clinical as the modern lenses. It also looks beautiful and is an engineering masterpiece.

I was considering getting a 21mm. This video helped me make my mind and go for it! I'm buying the 21mm 3.4 since size is important to me and the smaller aperture size works best for my style of photography. The tips in this video also helped me to find in what situations the wide angle lenses work best.

I greatly appreciate your review, more special when you have great images to showcase the lens instead of pictures of cats. I think an used and well cared lux vs a new elmar would be my choice and you helped me to make my choice. I still shoot film as well so the extra stops will help. Great job! Thank you

I am fortunate to own the 18 mm Super Elmar besides the 21 mm Elmarit ASPH since both lenses are no longer in production. It seems the reviews on the 21 mm Elmarit have not been too favorable compared to the other two 21 mm lenses. I found those wide angle lenses work well on my SL2.
