Two Flights Up To The Clouds - Aerial Footage - MiG-DIS Twin Model Airplane Soars!!
Ғылым және технология
This film shows what happens when weather, sky and rubber-power combine for a beautiful demonstration of free-flight. Two flights by the 37" rubber-powered free-flight model of the Russian MiG-DIS on July 25, 2020 in Wawayanda, NY. Model built and flown by Tom Hallman. Inspired by the 26" plan by Lubomir Koutny. Filmed by Tom Hallman & Peter Kaiteris, using a 2009 Canon SX20-IS, an iPhone 11Pro, a Nikon D3400 70-300 mm & a keychain mini-cam 808 16D.
Music: "Story of One Man" by Ashot Danielyan and "Dream Canyon" by From the Moment Music via MotionArray.com
The on-board mini-cam is the 808 16D micro HD key ring camera (18 grams) with the 120 degree lens. Available on ebay from the reputable seller, eletoponline365. The newer version #32 with higher resolution, 1080p is available via this link:

This is what the world needed, rubber winding on video 😃😃😃. Let them know 😎
After trying my first twin motor build I have come to the conclusion that you, Sir, are in fact a wizard of the highest order. Thanks for sharing your magic with us.
Hey Tom. To say that you are a Master at this hobby is truly an understatement! Thanks again for sharing your world with us. Truly spectacular!👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Beautiful, weather, model, video, content and editing. Thank you.
Just what I needed today in a world full of turmoil...thank you!

Sometimes I wish I was one of those planes and just fly away
Simply calming. Brilliant photography and flight
Love the lines of this bird. Thanks for including the pre-flight detail, very interesting.
Glad to see this model of yours again. It’s my favorite!

Amazing! An early model airplane memory is of a Guillow Lancer Dad built: 4 or 5 year-old me never thought a rubber-powered plane could fly so far and I daydreamed of what it would look like to sit in the cockpit. I might have to give stick-and-tissue another go, now that you've shown how to solve this ancient mystery.

Nice 👍🏾 landing!
Very, very nice, sir!!
Open country, big sky.. Great flying plane..good video!
Very,,,very beautiful,,, sir.
Beautiful.
A wizard arrives precisely when he means to. Your videos arrive precisely when I need to calm down, breathe and release my shoulders. I've dipped my toes in sub-100g flights myself, but just flinging sailplanes and dlg. Got a Guillows kit lying here now to try rubber. Thank you for beautiful videos and inspiration!

Thx for the kind words. I hope you find free-flight as enjoyable and relaxing as I do.
Amazing plane my friend. I love it. Thanks for posting and big salute from Slovenia, Pilot Robert
What an original and great model you built ! She flies perfectly and so gracefully. An oasis of harmony far away our daily life issues. Peaceful video, very pleasant to watch, thank you !
Great plane and great aerial footage...
When I see your videos from this field, I always get the feeling that this is not far from where Andy hid that tin box for Red to find.

Amazing flying model well done
Your Models fly so well. Your scale models fly so well. A scale model with a camera? Blown away over here. Thanks for the winding detail. Learning so much.

Interesting to see how the camera frame rate beats against the propeller revolution rate. I wonder whether that would allow plotting turns and revolution rate against time. If we also had a record of altitude against time we could learn a lot about how the motor torque curve shapes the flight trajectory.
82 grams (killicans) I can't see, wait a minute..I gotta convert French to English (don't know why I have to in USA?)..Ah, 2.9 ozs...that I can see...Tom, your model videos & background music are absolutely awesome, inspiring & beautiful...Moses
Watching this last year lit a little fire. At first I was just arrested by the striking look of the plane. I have in the past taken pleasure in building weird and niche late war planes, generally experimental German ones from plastic kits, so I wanted to know what it was. Then I was taken by the idea of free flight. RC stuff really is boring. Anyway, I have now a fairly good stock of balsa and about 40 plans downloaded from OZ. I tried to build a Dehavilland moth at first and spooned it, so now I'm building a Dumas eindecker from the full kit. If that goes OK I'll go back to trying with just a plan and wood again. If I can eventually build one half as nice as this one I'll be happy. Thanks.
Thumbs up. Though there's always the temptation to thumbs down, just'cause I have never been able to get a twin to fly... 😉

@@maxfliart Too be honest, I only tried once. I ought to give it another shot. 😁
Beautiful flight! I do have a newbie question though. When you describe the rubber motors and you say for example, 2 loops at 34", is that the total length before you loop it?
@maxfliart
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan. Thx for the feedback & question. The 34" is the length of the completed 2 loop motor. It's made from a single strand of rubber, 136" long. It all fits into a nacelle that has a prop hook to rear peg length of 9.5". How?? Well the rubber is braided, so that when it unwinds, it remains relatively tight, and doesn't flop around and change the CG of the model. I hope to do a film soon, showing this basic braiding process of preparing a motor for any given model. Stay tuned.

Are the props relatively closely matched pitch? Could you use putch adj. to trim the turn rate? Beautiful flights, gorgeous location!
@maxfliart
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they're rather close. The pitch is fixed, and has worked well since day one. I love flying twins!
Thanks for the video, can I ask what camera that is ? I had several mini cams and none were reliable
@maxfliart
2 жыл бұрын
For many years, I've bought the most recent mini-cams from this seller on ebay, eletoponline365, and have had no problems. I would go for the 808 #32. Here is his store. www.ebay.com/str/eletoponline365?_trkparms=folent%3Aeletoponline365%7Cfolenttp%3A1&_trksid=p3542580.m47492.l74602
Very interesting. Can I ask what is the blast tube purpose?
@maxfliart
3 жыл бұрын
Thx. If the rubber breaks during winding, the tube protects the model. Otherwise, the rubber can tear the model apart.

@@maxfliart Oh, I see. Thanks for your attention. :-)
I can see how one could easily lose a plane, if a small thermal carries it up, up, and away....
don't you need controller for that ??? you going lost the plane for doing like that also do this kind model sell on amazon??
