Ethan Bolen, the sermon talks about how the “Gospel Centered” preaching movement tends to and has dissuaded obedience and works. Piper starts out by acknowledging it, Saying that it goes wrong, and that the Gospel is also about Holy Spirit driven works and obedience (not for salvation, but called for nonetheless). So the gospel piper is pushing forward is so awesome, especially when you get pulled away from and reintroduced to it by “gospel centered” preaching over and over. I’ve seen it first hand, was dissuaded from a desire for works and obedience (not for salvation) but because i was excited about my salvation and Jesus and wanted to do more. I was dissuaded as though I was confused about the Gospel. I was not “Gospel Centered” and trusting in the freedom from the law or whatever. Then later they start to flip back to the actual Gospel which never changed in the first place they were just puffed up kind of like the Corinthians. I’m kind of frustrated, if you couldn’t tell. It’s like joining a gym to get in shape because someone saved your life and wanted you to take care of your body, but when you show up at the gym they discourage you from working out or “trying to earn” your physical fitness with diet and exercise. It’s their gym so you assimilate but later find out yeah that really was a retarded, wrong mindset. Became Christian in 2011 and was constantly dissuaded against pursuing righteousness, holiness, etc. now things are turning back to obedience. GOOD. But dang it thanks for the cognitive dissonance and time wasting and gas lighting all those years 🤦‍♂️.

Ryan Jackson No way Ryan, Paul writes about making sure to finish the race, which means that some who start don’t finish. Galatians 5, live like that and you won’t make heaven. You can’t earn your way in, but it doesn’t follow from that that you can’t discount yourself with unrepentant habitual sin ... the “practice” of sin as Paul puts it. The price of salvation is too high for our works to pay, but God’s grace is nonetheless ‘conditional’ on our repentance (that doesn’t mean repentance earns it)

Start at the source of all that is good and love, which is God. Before you can do anything answer this question "Do I truly know how much God loves me?" Do you know that God loved you first even while you were a sinner, an enemy of God? Is it just words to you, or is it something you trust, something that is a reality for you where you can go to sleep knowing you are right with God and that he truly loves you as your very Good Father? If you don't like your answer search the scripture of God's love/charity. To start with look up John 3, 1 John 4:10, Romans 8, 1 Cor 13, and 2nd Samuel 9. You are not alone Matthew Keith. Unfortunately, Piper's focus on joy comes from his "Christian hedonism" which is an unbiblical doctrine founded upon a twisting of the catechism Q and A, and scripture out of context. True joy is found in resting in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and what he has done for you. I know Piper comes across almost like a guilt trip if you don't have the "joy" and "desire" and "passion" etc that he has, yet Piper gives no assurance of salvation, because his doctrine of salvation includes God judging your works on the last day, instead of Christ's works in your place. If you have no assurance of salvation because of Christ's work alone, then how can you have joy? Piper is a mess of confusion. It is very sad. As a pastor, I have spent countless hours counseling people who are disciples of this man, and straightening out the false ideas of salvation and sanctification. So please don't feel bad.

As a shepherd, I have had to deal with too many Christians who have been totally screwed up by his false teachings. Biblical sanctification is so much better than Piper's new ideas.

  • @HotelCharliHill

    @HotelCharliHill

@@ernievanboven4396 What Piper teaches about sanctification is plainly laid out by the apostles and CHRIST HIMSELF. Why do you think Jesus said "The path is narrow and it is difficult!" Most professing Christians want it easy, to "do as thou wilt" and be their own gods. John has a good grasp of this. The only thing I find disagreeable about his positions is that he doesn't see the covenant with the remnant of Israel so plainly spoken of in the New Testament (ie: Romans, Revelation, etc), but that's not what we're talking about. Too many of the "christians" you counsel don't have joy, not because of teaching like this but because they do not have God in them and are slaves to their own sin. To live that life is an empty and painful guilt-ridden existence. They aren't saved.

I used to follow Piper - Early 2000s as a young Christian. I'm glad I no longer do. Thankful to God for freeing me. "My sheep hear my voice and they know me and follow me, and a stranger will they not follow, for they know not the voice of strangers." If you compare Piper's book "Future Grace" to his "Future of Justification" or "Counted Righteous," you will see how his articulation of the Gospel is flawed, and as one commenter said "a mess of confusion." He often contradicts himself from book to book, from sermon to sermon, and sometimes even within the same sermon. Christian Hedonism? Better to stick to the Word and what the Word actually says. Don't waste your life? I wasted hours of mine listening to *hundreds* of this man's sermons; whereas I could have been listening to the audio bible. I read a dozen or so of this man's books; I could have been reading the Book of Books.

Matt 22:35-40 are commandments. They are a paraphrase from the Old Testament. We cannot love perfectly yet we are commanded to. God is immutable and therefore cannot ask anything of us that is less than perfection. We cannot meet God's demands or keep this standard. We needed grace. God provided it and therefore we operate on this basis. His commands have not changed or compromised nor could they.

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.… I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do” (Rom 7:14-15, 19)...Thanks God by His Grace through the blood of Jesus Christ,we have been saved, bought and now become righteous and worthy to be called children of God.Remember we still l this body until Christ comes back and give us that new eternal body dont expect any Christian to live a perfect and sinless lifeThe Spirit work in us is tonhelp us walk the right way and think the right way all focused on Jesus and again its going to be a long journey until Christ's comes back to redeem us from this body.God Bless us all!

But I don’t know if its just me, every time I hear him- he left in me is a certain feeling of discouragement because somewhat he has this defensive premise and assumptions that listeners are all wrong and need to always be castigated. All due respect to him, but If I attend his church for sure I will go home head low and discouraged because nothing-no no nothing will ever be enough for him. Whether you’re doing your best to serve- no you’re still nothing. Not until you exceed or on par that of apostle Paul’s track records- no you’re not worthy and not enough- that is the feeling I am getting from his teaching. There are good ones of course lol 😂 It just bothers me that there’s always this “in your face inadequacy” resounding overtones in his sermon style.

I understand what you mean, and sometimes I feel the same way when I listen to John Piper. I think sometimes he highlights "works" in a way that makes us feel as though we need to follow those commandments in order to be right with God. Jesus says "If you love Me you will keep my commandments" not "If you keep My commandments then you love me." It seems the same but it is very different. In the true Word, love for Christ is first and because we have a sincere and true love for Christ we WANT to keep His commandments. Yes we fail at times, and it is not a license to sin willingly, but if we've truly had a heart change our love for our Father causes us to want to honor him in every way. Which makes us turn from sin. The way John Piper describes it sounds more like the second phrase "If you keep my commandments then you love Me." This is work based in hopes that if we do enough good then that will be good enough to show God we love him. That is just not scripture. Those who are born again have had a heart change. Sin hurts us now because it hurts our Father. When we sin now it is a tool to show us that we are drifting from our Precious Lord and to turn back to God. Like a child who gets too close to the cliff and gets scared and runs back to his/her father. We are to run back to our Father when we sin. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you and always give you peace and clarity.

@@sarahxDjiggzz John Piper teaches an "initial justification by faith alone" that doesn't get one into heaven. To get into heaven he says, our works have to be taken into account judicially on judgement day. It is a false gospel which keeps believes of it on pins and needles, not knowing if they have enough "fruit" to prove the authenticity of their faith. JP says that on the last day, we will be saved, "through that fruit and that faith". If I am saved "through my fruit" in any way, I have no hope. On the last day, Christ's righteousness imputed to my account through faith alone is the only fruit that will save me. Does a believer produce fruit? Of course, but that is not what gets me into heaven. JP is a false teacher and keeps people in bondage just like Roman Catholicism. It is very sad. But be encouraged Sarah, and trust in Christ's righteousness alone, for in Him you were created for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

I think there's a way in which someone can misunderstand. Out of all the preachers I've ever listened to, he's the one who highlights the most the importance of being joyful in the Lord (The joy of the Lord is my strength) and that joy comes through obedience of God's law, which you can't do if you're not delighting in God to begin with. His preaching isn't that you're insufficient, and in this clip, he pretty much says the Gospel is so much more than just getting eternal life at the end, but a constant and ever present satisfaction in God that leads to increased obedience in the power of the Holy Spirit. It's less, "I gotta do these things for God cause I'm inadequate" and more "I wanna do these things for God because I love doing them because He purchased my ability to not only do them but also to love them"

Then the law is established. We do not operate under law. We operate under God’s grace. If we try to follow the law perfectly we will and have failed. God brought about a new covenant. Luke 22:20. Old covenant was a bilateral agreement that God had with the Israelites. Jeremiah 31:31, 33. In response to Old Covenant see Hebrews chapter 7....12

Hey, Angelo. Not simple at all. I completely understand. I had to start reading the Bible with a sensitivity to figure out when God was giving us a command or giving us a promise etc. So I hope this helps. When the disciples are with Jesus he often will say to them things like God seeks mercy. Therefore the command is to be merciful. Or he will say have faith like little children for the kingdom belongs to such as these. He is commanding us to have that kind of faith. Or faith as a mustard seed can cast mountains into the sea. Command to believe. A little faith in our God according to his will accomplishes much. Also many commands are scattered throughout the old testament and then brought up in the Epistles. For instance John Piper brings up grumbling. Not exactly pointedly laid out in the ten Commandments but by example God kills thousands in the desert for grumbling and murmuring. Paul brings it up in one of his letters in the New Testament ( can't remember which one). By reading the Bible searching for the commands they start to pop out to you and you realize God is saying my beloved children walk this way by my Spirit. I hope this helps a bit. Pray when reading and God will show you. He loves to download us with wisdom.

But remember, Calvinism and context never go hand in hand. He was proof texting his ideology. Calvinists believe they have the authority to use scripture out of context to make their point.

I incorporate evangelical Gospel-Centered message in every sermon I preach and after people come forward to receive Christ, they are followed up on, discipled and taught going forward. Just because Piper's version of "Gospel-Centered" preaching does not include what he thinks it should does not give him the right so arrogantly mock others. And if he is going to use references like "It's like 99% of the time..." then he needs to back that statement up with references to the messages he is talking about. Without knowing the context and content of those messages he's just blowing smoke. There is a lot more to the New Testament and there is a time and place for every message and teaching in it and it is not Piper's place to judge what God laid upon another minister to share.

Rules tend to give people some standard of righteousness that they think they can achieve. What they don't realize is that their works(the best of their works) is as filthy rags to God. Also the strength of sin is the law. You tell someone not to do something they'll have the urge to do it more than if you had said nothing. Thank God all we have to do to have Eternal Life is just trust Jesus to have sacrificed himself as payment for our sins and that we've been justified!(Cant say it enough) And after we've already been saved He gives us good works already prepared, to walk in for rewards in heaven. And don't be worried about loving each other as Jesus loves us because 1)We simply can't love the way God loves us. His is absolutely limitless and undeserved or unearned. 2)With God residing in us it is His Love that springs up in us, not our own. 3)When you understand Grace and just how deeply God loves you no matter what you do, then I would wager you'll begin to grow into maturity in The Lord.

According to the Hebrew Scriptures not the English Bible. Many are called few are chosen to understand what you are about to read. Here is how subtle and crafty your adversary really is. Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle and crafty than any beast of the field which Father YAHweh had made. And he said to the woman; Has YAHweh indeed said: You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? God is only a misleading TITLE not a name! Proverbs 30:4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound up the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His Name? And what is the Name of His Son? Tell me, if you know! "How can we know that Satan is the God of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4)?" Answer: The phrase “God of this world” (or “god of this age”) indicates that Satan is the major influence on the ideals, opinions, goals, hopes and views of the majority of people. His influence also encompasses the world’s philosophies, education, and commerce. The thoughts, ideas, speculations and ALL religions of the world are under his control and have sprung from his lies and deceptions. Satan is also called the "prince of the power of the air" in Ephesians 2:2. He is the "ruler of this world" in YAHchanan (John) 12:31. These titles and many more signify Satan’s capabilities. To say, for example, that Satan is the "prince of the power of the air" is to signify that in some way he rules over the world and the people in it. This is not to say that he rules the world completely; Father YAHweh is still sovereign. But it does mean that Father YAHweh, in His infinite wisdom, has allowed Satan to operate in this world within the boundaries Father YAHweh has set for him. When the Scriptures says Satan has power over the world, we must remember that Father YAHweh has given him domain over "unbelievers". True believers that are called out of the STRONG DELUSION ( 2 Thess. 2:1-11 ) are no longer under the rule of Satan the father of lies YAHchanan ( John ) 8:44 ) (Colossians 1:13). ALL unbelievers, on the other hand, are caught "in the snare of the devil" (2 Timothy 2:26), and lie in the and under the control of "power of the evil one" (1 YAHchanan (John 5:19), and are in bondage to Satan (Ephesians 2:2). 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 tells us Satan has a STRONG DELUSION for those who love lies more than the truth, so Father YAHweh allows Satan to deceive those people with a religious delusion. They really believe the religion they joined or that they are a part of is the right "religion". That is a very subtle way to deceive. ( Genesis 3:1-5 ) So, when the Scriptures says that Satan is the "God of this world," it is not saying that he has ultimate authority. It is conveying the idea that Satan rules over the unbelieving world in a specific way. In 2 Corinthians 4:4, the unbeliever follows Satan's agenda: "The God of this world has blinded the minds of ALL unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the message of the glory of Father YAHweh's resurrected Son and our Messiah." Satan's scheme includes promoting false philosophies in the world-philosophies that blind the unbeliever to the truth of the message. ( 2 Cor. 5:18-21 ) Satan’s philosophies are the fortresses in which people are imprisoned, and they must be set free by Father YAHweh's Son YAHWEHSHUA the resurrected Hebrew Messiah. An example of one such false philosophy is the belief that man can earn Father YAHweh's mercy by a certain act or acts. In almost every false religion, meriting Father YAHweh’s mercy or earning eternal life is a predominant theme. Earning salvation by works, however, is contrary to the revelation found in the Hebrew Scriptures. Man cannot work to earn Father YAHweh's mercy; eternal life is a free gift (see Ephesians 2:8-9). And that free gift is available through Father YAHweh's Son and Him ALONE ! YAHchanana (John) 3:16; 14:6). You may ask why mankind does not simply receive the free gift of salvation (John 1:12). The answer is that Satan-the God of this world-has tempted mankind to follow his PRIDE instead. Satan sets the agenda, ALL the unbelieving world follows, and mankind continues to be deceived. It is no wonder that Scripture calls Satan a liar (John 8:44) And the father of ALL lies? Satan the God of this world has deceived man with the many man made religions based on the traditions of men, religious men love lies more than the TRUTH. Every church house is built to worship the very being that has deceived them. That is how subtle your adversary is, you don't know what you are worshiping. You miss the warning back in Genesis 3:1-5 and you do not believe Revelation 12:9 or 2 Corinthians 4:4. Most folks will die trusting that God will save them. WAKE UP. Acts 4:12 really does mean what it says. Acts 4: 11-12 11 This is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the Head stone of the corner, 12 Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. facebook.com/Hallelu-YAHWEHSHUA-560548060673707/?ref=settings

Love is the fulfilling of the Law for Love is of God and God is love. Here is the Holy Law of Love given by the Son of God. 7. AND Iesus said unto them, “Behold a new law I give unto you, which is not new but old. I am a Messianic Gentile. The law was not given to the Gentiles but to the Jews, and where there is no law sin is not counted against you. Sin is the result of breaking a law. Therefore, what do I have to repent of being no law was given the Gentile? As a man the sin nature given by the fall of Adam gave death to me. But God promised a redeemer. That Redeemer was Jesus, he paid the price required for sin. I now have been restored to the Father as if sin never happened. Relationship and fellowship totally restored. Thank you Jesus! Never put the laws or the punishment of the Jews on the Gentiles as it is not theirs to carry.

There is another FAITH that comes by the GLORIFICATION of CHRIST. Since the preachers themselves experienced only the 1st FAITH, so they are able to preach this FAITH. Once again Piper is caught out with his inconsistencies in teaching the truth of God’s Word. In this video Piper proclaims, ”Christ died to purchase your obedience to hundreds of commands.” And yet, when Piper teaches on God’s sovereignty he says, “God meticulously determined all the heinous desires and subsequent evil actions of every creature who has ever lived in such a way that they could not have done otherwise, including the rapes of children, the holocaust, slavery, torture, EVERY SINGLE EVIL THOUGHT AND EVIL INCLINATION because that was what He planned and ultimately desired to come to pass in order to bring Himself glory.” On the one hand Piper is saying that Christ died to purchase our obedience, and yet, on the other hand, he says, God meticulously determined EVERY SINGLE EVIL THOUGHT AND EVIL INCLINATION. Reformed pastors cannot avoid this unenviable situation when they attempt to teach the truth of God’s Word in the light of their shocking understanding of God’s sovereignty. How is it possible to say that Christ died to purchase our obedience, when, in fact, according to Calvinism, God determined all our evil actions?

One is God's divine decree( that which we do not know as it is in the knowledge of God) and the other is God's prescriptive will ( that which we has instructed us to do). You don't need to put these in opposition with one another, as a believer you are entitled to do what is commanded of you. However, we acknowledge the sovereignty of God over all that goes on in creation.

@@elitecaosuk3141 I understand the need Calvinists have to defend their views, but at what cost! Consider for a moment what you are saying. You are claiming that God has 2 wills, or a divine decree and prescriptive will which are both contradictory. You have just made God double minded. Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty. Non-Calvinists understand God’s sovereignty to mean that He has the power and authority to do whatever He wants; but He is not the cause of everything that happens. In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus said, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” God’s will is not always being done on earth in this age; however, we distinguish between what God wills and what He decrees. We believe God has decreed that man will have fee will, therefore, the evil that men perform is within the sovereignty of God. And what God decrees can never contradict what God wills - The LORD is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works.

@@gregjay9933 Brother, I don't think you understand what I'm saying, I say this with sincerity with the unity of the body at mind. I haven't said God has two wills but rather God has one will, the two things I described above are two parts to that will based on his revelation. That which he has revealed to us and that which he has not revealed to us. Let's just look at the whole verse you have quoted, Matthew 6:10 - "Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven". I believe you will agree with me that God has decreed for his kingdom to come, yet we are still being told to pray for his kingdom to come. Some will raise the question what's the point of praying for it to come when he has already declared that it will come. This is where his divine decree and prescriptive will comes into play. Yes his kingdom coming is part of God's divine decree and will come regardless, however us praying for it to come is his prescriptive will for us to do, it is how he uses us as a means to bring it about. In regards to God's will we acknowledge that his will is being carried out and we pray that his will may be done on earth as in heaven, not assuming that it's not being done but in agreement that it is and asking that it continue. Few verses pointing at God's will being done on the earth, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, "My purpose shall stand, and I will fulfill my intention (Isaiah 46:9,10). And He does what he wills with the host of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. There is no one who can stay his hand or say to him, "What are you doing?" (Daniel 4:35). God's will and decree can not be thwarted. We both are defending what we believe in the end of the day, otherwise we wouldn't share our opinions on the matter. Nonetheless, I can appreciate the grace of God in your life regardless of whether we disagree in this area of our theology, let us hallow the name of God in all that we do to the glory of His wonderful name.🙏🏿

@@elitecaosuk3141 At first I found myself agreeing with the things you spoke about but there are 2 issues I believe need to be challenged. 1 [God's will and decree can not be thwarted.] Clearly, God’s decree cannot be thwarted. One only has to glance at this world to see that God’s will is not always being accomplished. Surely you don’t believe that all the wickedness, suffering and injustices that occur in this world are God’s will. This is what I mean when I quote Matthew - God’s will is being accomplished in heaven but it is not always, as yet, being accomplished on earth. 2 One part of God’s will cannot contradict another part of His will. This is why I challenge Piper’s understanding of God’s sovereignty. Piper often introduces contradictions to, what you refer to as, two parts of God’s will. On the one hand Piper is saying that Christ died to purchase our obedience, and yet, on the other hand, he says, God meticulously determined EVERY SINGLE EVIL THOUGHT AND EVIL INCLINATION. It is this type of contradiction that I have never had satisfactorily explained.

" If are saying that God's will CAN be thwarted, as evidenced by all the wickedness we see around us, then you are INcorrect; "There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD." Proverbs 21:30 But like Elite CAOs UK said, "One is God's divine decree( that which we do not know as it is in the knowledge of God) and the other is God's prescriptive will ( that which we has instructed us to do). " Yes, they contradict each other ONLY IN THAT MAN contradicts God's Prescriptive will (that which God commands us as what is the right thing to do) with his (man's) evil actions. YET, the fact that men do their evil actions IS God's DIVINE WILL to accomplish HIS Purpose. Remember the words of Jesus in Mathew 18:7; "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!" It is God's prescriptive will that only good things which do not cause people to sin occur (ie. Love Your Neighbor and Love God and all the commands that fall under these two commands). However, the things that cause people to sin MUST come (this is God's Divine Will) but WOE to the people through whom they come! In other words, people like Pharaoh and the People who killed Jesus WERE violating God's Prescriptive will, yet, at the same time, they were accomplishing his DIVINE WILL! Look at Acts 4:27-28 27 "Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed." (This conspiring was EVIL and against God's Prescriptive will! Proverbs 17:15 says "Do Not Condemn the innocent" " Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent-- the LORD detests them both." So by codenemning Jesus they violated God's prescriptive will) 28"They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen." (So even though The Lord says Do Not condemn the innocent, Yet, it was HIS WILL that evil men WOULD condemn Jesus in order that his sovereing plan of salvation would take effect. BUT, those who conspired were still guilty before God for their wicked deeds!) So, at one and the same time, evil men violated God's prescriptive will while fulfilling God's Divine Will, and no, God's will was NOT thwarted! For another example like this one, Read Isaiah 10: God calls the King of Assyria "An Ax in MY Hand" and says "I SEND HIM...." against a disobedient nation. (God's Divine will) Yet, the King of Assyria violated God's Prescriptive Will because for His (the King's) own selfish purposes he went in and killed "innocent" people. So, in summary, the King of Assyria violated God's fulfilled God's Divine Will, while violating God's Prescriptive Will, and then, when God was finished using him to do His (God's) will, God said "Im' going to punish him for what he has done!"

Christ does not purchase our obedience at the cross,. he purchases our Justification. The fruit of Justification is new obedience but that's not what he is teaching here. He is teaching that Christ actually purchased our relative obedience to the law at the cross. The Reformers have always taught that sanctification was a necessary state of being, a fruit of our justification. Piper sets up sanctification as a necessary condition added to the instrument of faith for final salvation. That is drifting back to Rome.

@@fulllifeministry4766 Nobody is saying that God doesn't also sanctify us, but what Piper has said elsewhere is that we are justified by faith, but final salvation is by faith and fruit. So the view since the Reformation has been that that Christ's work for us justifies us, and saves us completely, and that is secured, then as the fruit of that justifying work for us, He also works sanctification in us, but that doesn't get added on as an additional condition as if God looks at our works and the faith that He justified us by on the judgement day and figures out if He will let us into heaven or not. There is a name for that view. It's called Roman Catholicism. So, what the Reformed position is is Christ for us, and Christ in us both happen, but Christ-for-us secures salvation, and Christ-in-us happens as the fruit of all that. Christ-for-us is absolute and definitive. Christ-in-us produces relative results that are not part of our justification or meeting a bar for salvation before God. Piper is a mono-covenentalist. So he disagrees with the Westminster Confession of Faith, and other Reformed standards such as the 3-Forms of unity. He's basically a biblicist, meaning he is a self-styled bible interpreter who sometimes borrows from those who came before him, but his problem is that he has effectively setup a second stage of justification by adding fruit as a co-instrument along with faith for a concept he calls "final-salvation".

@Brad Nadeau He does more that that. Here is something he preached in 1999: “God’s verdict of not guilty and his imputing of his own righteousness to us at the beginning of the Christian life is by faith alone… that’s how we get started. James is answering the question ‘does the ongoing and final reckoning of Abraham’s righteousness depend on works as the necessary evidence of true and living faith?’ James’ answer to that question is ‘Yes.’ And Paul’s answer is also ‘Yes.’ Gen 15:6. If you ask them, ‘Does justification as an ongoing and final right standing with God depend on the works of love?’ …So when Paul renounces ‘justification by works’ he renounces the view that anything we do along with faith is credited to us as righteousness. Only faith obtains the verdict, ‘not guilty,’ when we become Christians. Works are not acceptable in the moment of initial justification. But when James affirms ‘justification by works’ he means that works are absolutely necessary in the ongoing life of a Christian to confirm and prove the reality of the faith which justifies..…For James, ‘justification by works’ means “maintaining a right standing with God by faith along with the necessary evidence of faith, namely the works of love.” JOHN PIPER “Does James Contradict Paul?”(8 August 1999)
