This is such a piss poor mentality, coming from an autist, I am. Always look for solutions, make a list of what to do, get insurance, look it up, add points on data you get, take a break if needed, then continue. This is a give up attitude, anxiety is real, and valid to feel, but the choices you make in response to it are what matter. You can't change anxiety disorders, but you can change how you react, as you are not you emotions, the only reason I haven't flunked out of college is by pushing far past my comfort zone, to tell myself I have no option of trying just doing. Mentality is everything, avoid thinking I can't, and instead, how do I. Anxiety doesn't make you unable to look for solutions, if it is bad enough to inhibit rational thinking, see a therapist as that is non functional for living as an adult. Qt Cinderella has a family and family in law, and Google, there are support systems, money, and a near infinite source of info called Google. Look up medical insurance USA multiple states, then look at the results, them make a new search based on that. It is critical thinking which she clearly lacks.

I’m a senior in highschool, I’ve turned 18 recently and I’m about to graduate I relate to her very much. I grew up in a poor home with basically no support system or help due to my parents addictions and issues that have gave me issues. My counselor at my school doesn’t do shit at all and I get made fun of for not knowing basic things even though the people who make fun me grew up in a supportive home that didn’t have to worry about finances. I struggle quite frequently with my mental health and with these kind of things I have no idea how to start or what to ask because that is how blind I am to these things. But there are people out there that are willing to help you such as my friends mom it’s just hard to find who can spend time to help you especially when it’s overwhelming and you don’t learn very well. I feel as if people are making it sound easier then it is for some people . Making fun of people aren’t going to help them learn it’s just going to make them have more mental health issues.googling things isn’t always the easiest thing from my case personally it just sends me into a rabbit hole and I have no idea where to start. Also sometimes google isn’t the answer to everything and can’t answer specifically what you are asking for. It’s hard to learn “common sense” when everyone already knows it and won’t tell you because your supposed to know it. From personal experience it’s hard to learn and it’s hard to live life as a normal person when you are put into survival fight or flight mode for most of your life

It's so true that living in fight/flight mode often freezes your mind's capacity for learning, because anything that's hard is interpreted as another threat you need to either shut out or escape from. I remember having a test, super simple, but I was so anxious about not passing I want to actually jump out of the car I was in to avoid it. Luckily I didn't, but that's how bad my mind would react to stressors. I hope you find people who can support you through this process and help you move forward into the happy life you deserve.

I grew up in foster care. It was the epitome of not being prepared for adult life alone after being booted out at age 18. Only thing I was taught as preparation for adulthood was how to do laundry and cook basic shit, I wasn't allowed to get a driver's license cause social worker for the state wouldn't sign for me to get one. No one taught me how to write a check, file taxes, get proper insurance for health or vehicle or home. That being said, in the end it was up to me and only me to figure shit out. Ignorance is no excuse to remain in the dark about necessities you need as an adult. She knows what insurance is, just doesn't want to deal with the hassle of figuring it out and is fine with paying out of pocket. She's wealthy enough to foot the bill. Good on her, as long as she stays relatively healthy, doesn't get hospitalized or needs major surgery or medicine for something that isn't common. Buying insurance from work was too expensive for me, I decided to do without insurance and just pay $60 to go to urgent care when I absolutely had to. This worked for me... Until i was hospitalized and needed my apendix and part of my intestines removed. I was hospitalized for 12 days because i developed an infection post op and was sent home after the 12 days with a fist sized hole in my stomach. I was homebound for 3 months out of work as the hole slowly closed shut over time causing me to run through my very meager savings quickly until i returned to work before I was fully healed. The hospital sent me a bill for over 1/4 of a million $. Since then, my health has rapidly declined from having Crohn's disease and am now disabled. The medicine I take for it is Stelara, I give myself one 90 mg shot every 8 weeks. Without insurance that one shot every 2 months my life depends on would cost over 27,000$ per shot. My point with all this long winded speech is, even though she can foot the bill now, it's still important to have insurance here in America cause everyone is one wrong thing away from having your wealth drained fast. If she has a horrible accident in CA, they are not going to life flight her to her home state so she can be covered under her insurance there.

The person at my school who was supposed to help us deal with college stuff pretty much abandoned me when they learned I wanted going to a school they weren't familiar with because it was out of state and I had to figure it out on my own and I only got health insurance about 2 years ago because every other time before that the idea of trying to apply to go through all of it was so overwhelming that I would just shut down and not do it and resign myself to another year of not going to the doctor. I would also hear stories from friends and family who needed to have medical expenses covered but their insurance would just decide they didn't need it and wouldn't cover it any way so they were still paying Thousands even with insurance?? Which made me feel like it was not only overwhelming and complicated but also just a pointless extra expense. So I'm not really sure what people are roasting her about. I dunno about other places but in America they really just Do Not Care about preparing people to enter adult life. I imagine her experience is a pretty normal one, honestly.

She has the money, access to the internet, friends & the education system to grow up with. it’s not entirely her fault but to just have a blind eye to something as big as that implies that she didn’t even want to learn. Let’s apply this logic to something like taxes. Are you just not going to pay taxes bc you didn’t learn it growing up? No.

For those who don’t know, QTCinderella grew up in a very strict Mormon family and while she eventually distanced herself from the faith, growing up in that environment caused her to not have the same levels of common sense that you would expect. She also very clearly had some underlying mental health issues that were probably aggravated even more by the lack of care she got growing up since Mormon communities tend to look towards mental illness as literally the devil being inside you. She’s talked a lot about it on the Fear& Podcast if you want to know more.

But once I took my niece in I figured it out real quick so she can go anytime she likes with no worries. QT just needs that external motivation, cause we ain't figuring that complicated shit out on our own.

It's so insane because the argument of "just ask" or "just google it" shows that these people had it easy in life. For me it wasn't my family but my friends that shamed me every time i had questions like this. It made me so scared to ask things and to even google them. Some people let you down or shame you, so how are you supposed to ask when you don't even know where to start and you're scared?

I don't mean to insult you, in fact I'm very saddened by your friends making fun of you when you clearly thought you could rely on them for help. Having said that- I personally learned a _number_ of "adult skills" by googling, Reddit and KZread. So I'm just puzzled by the assertion that "you can't do that" ? The point that "you don't know, what you don't know" is an extremely valid one- having said that- there are alot of very helpful advice, guidance and even entire communities online dedicated to helping people with these issues, that start you off with the basics. Googleing _just the words_ Health care or Taxes etc. can lead you to these resources. And I just don't understand why anyone wouldn't start with a quick search and build from there? Please I'm not trying to be mean, I am genuinely interested in why not?

@velentr I completely understand your confusion. It comes from being scared to ask for me. When you're scared you can feel shameful to google something. I felt like asking things like taxes made me look dumb. What if someone looks at my history and I forget to delete it? It's not rational, but I would think like that. Qt has a completely different reason than me. When things like that weren't taught in school, it made it very hard for me to search things. I'm way more confident with searching things now.

As someone who grew up in a extremely religious and sheltered home I sympathize a lot with QT, yeah sure we can just google it if we're curious, but because we were not taught the proper ways to handle these adult things like insurance can be very scary, especially when you're doing it alone, you're more susceptible to getting scammed or manipulated because you don't have the experience or have someone (like you parents) to help you through it. Just because someone grew up in a different environment and was raised differently from you it does not mean they're stupid. It usually means neglect.

Also the excuse of "Healthcare is difficult to navigate", agreed, which is why people get paid to do that for you. QT seems willingly ignorant. Like with the streamer awards there was this German or something DJ she liked and wanted to preform but she's like "nah he speaks he a different language and it seems hard so no" when there's Google translate and fans open to translating. I've noticed anytime she encounters anything discouraging even the smallest things instantly make her give up. We have little devices in our pockets and you can Google everything. So at this point it's a choice. Don't get me wrong I like QT a lot. I've just noticed she easily gives up instead of pushing forward.

I can't agree with both sides of this unnecessary drama. John's argument was petty to begin with, but damn the critics act offended and take all accountability away from an adult woman. She said that her classmates talked about going to college so there is no way she was unaware, she just didn't considered maybe looking it up or asking. The health insurance part is hard to judge cause I'm not American, but I doubt she wasn't asked if she has one when she went to the doctors. It seems like she knew about it but never considered to try to get info and people make up excuses.
