Twin Mini Loft Bed

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I built my daughter a mini loft bed she had been wanting. Its only 48 inchs high. I bought all the lumber from lowes and it is construction grade lumber. Total cost was around $100. This DIY build is fairly easy and even though I used special tools. You really dont need anything but basic tools. Thanks for watching!

    Now that’s a bed I could get into as an little older it wouldn’t be hard to climb up for a beautiful bedroom with something homemade. I am sure your daughter will get many years out of this awesome looking bed Sir👍

    Made one for my granddaughter and made it 6' tall. On the ladder side I made the top 2 rails removable for easy access to the mattress during linen changes

    If you live in an area that has high humidity, take yourself a forstner bit and put some holes in that OSB. You need to have some ventilation to the bottom of the mattress to avoid mold or mildew building up.

    Really great build! I would like to counter your choice of screws though. When using a pocket hole, you really should use a flat-bottom head screw instead of a tapered flat-head deck screw. With a flat bottom screw you can apply greater torque to fasten the two pieces without risk of splitting the wood.

    I wish pocket hole screws were that cheap here in NZ. A pack of 250 2/2 inch screws cost $56 and then there's the cost of postage and packaging track and trace plus GST on top of that as you can only get them from an Auckland wood working company and a hardware shop, Anything you pay for that Kregs in NZ is doubled. Well thats my rant, So, great work on the build!!

    I was having the same issues with the kreg driver bits when I used the harbor freight driver.I started using my orange brand one and im just now needing to replace the driver bit after many builds.

    I just experienced the same thing. I thought it was me because it's the first time I make a bed. I went through 2 bits. I was looking for an alternative to the JKreg pocket hole screw. Thanks for the tip.

    Very cool build. Starting to put this together myself. Quick question: did you not end up using the carriage bolts? Can't see them on the end product and it looks like it's just the pocket holes you used as the joinery. Sorry if you mentioned this and I just missed it. Thanks!

    Eric Sweet No I didn’t, I realized if I would have used them and split the post it wouldn’t be as sturdy so I just assembled the bed inside her room.

    I see this was posted in August 2019. I understand the cost different for Kreg screws and standard screws you are using but the Kreg screws have the neck to help stop the screws from pulling through. Especially for a kids bed. Did it hold up?

  • @PoposWoodworks

    @PoposWoodworks

    Yea sir, it held up perfect! I just took it apart the other day because she wanted a bigger bed and for it to be closer to the ground. It never got loose or anything. The preferred method is the kreg screws but those square tips round too easy.

    Jose Acosta They are except for 2 of the rails where the ladder goes. But I think I mentioned what I had to recut them to in the video. I forgot to take the ladder opening in account at first. Also I cut the 4x4’s in half at 4’ a piece.

    Forgive me if im wrong, but arent those pocket holes backwards? Having them pointy outwards towards the wood is a weak bond

  • @akuo72

    @akuo72

    Жыл бұрын

    Yup they seem to be backwards. Probably done for aesthetic reasons. But the structure is probably ok, as both sides are secured and there shouldn't be enough shear forces to break them.
